Wanneroo Secondary College Endorsed Specialist Programs
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been a busy few weeks since our last newsletter.
Our year 4 students participated in an incursion, “Failing Well,” which encouraged students to have a positive mindset and grow from the failures that they all experience from time to time.
On May 2nd our students participated in the annual Legends of Landsdale Cross Country event. This is a highly anticipated event every year. Thank you to both Mr Baggio and Mr Brown for a fantastic event.
On May 3rd our staff and students wore blue to recognise Autism Awareness Day. This is a day designed to raise awareness of autism worldwide. It is a time when we are all encouraged to improve our knowledge and understanding of the different experiences of individuals on the autism spectrum.
Our Kindy and Pre-primary students have also been busy participating in incursions during the last few weeks. The Association for the Welfare of Children in Hospital visited as part of their program to help prepare students if they need to be hospitalised at some point, and our PP students had a lovely visit from Narelle Wynter who is the author of “I’d Rather Eat Chocolate.” While engaging the students in movement and play, the focus of the session was on healthy eating.
Our Mothers’ Day stall is happening on Friday this week. Kindy A students have already had an opportunity to attend but all other students will visit the stall to purchase something for a special person in their lives tomorrow.
All of these activities only happen because of the partnership between the families and staff of Landsdale Primary School. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who works together to ensure that our students have so many wonderful experiences.
Thank you.
Leonie Mattock
Acting Principal

Roadwise Information
Traffic Warden Reminder
Our wonderful Traffic Warden on Southmead Drive, Lynne, has requested when using Southmead Drive to access Kiss and Drive, please do not park over the cross walk in the afternoon moving forward to continue around the roundabout. Please stop at the first bollard and white line.
It’s very difficult and not safe for the Traffic Warden to move around the cars that have parked over the crosswalk while waiting to move forward, and definitely not safe for the children to cross.
Stop at the first white line before the red and white bollard going towards the cross walk.
Keep your speed to 40km in the school zone.
Library News … with Mrs Murray
WA Young Readers’ Book Award
It’s WAYRBA time again! The WA Young Readers’ Book Award is an annual event that encourages children to read and vote on a range of short-listed books by top authors and illustrators. The Library now has a display of these books, on the slat wall area. Children can borrow the WAYRBA books and vote on them by filling out the voting slip inside the book cover. They can keep the bookmark that is inside the book. Voting can also be done online. This year’s titles are suitable for all age levels and reading abilities. We would love to see all our borrowers reading and voting on the WAYRBA list of 30 books.
From now until the end of September, we are offering an incentive for students to participate in this event. Every time they read and vote on one of the Award books, their name goes into the draw to win a Scholastic Book Club voucher to the value of $25. The prize will be drawn when voting closes at the end of September. Please return completed voting slips to Mrs Murray in the Library, so the votes can be recorded and entered into the draw.
