Boost Program Girrawheen – For Parents/Caregivers of Children aged 4-7 years
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you to everyone who donated to The Kid’s Cancer Project for our Pirate Day 2024 held on Friday 17th May. We are still waiting for the final donation amount from our online donations and gold coins. This will be sent via Compass so we can share our amazing contributions with our community soon.
Pirate Day was founded by Nathan Colgan after his son Conor was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. Doctors told Nathan that research was the only way to find a cure for Conor and kids like him, which prompted his mission to raise money for childhood cancer research.
Conor’s primary school held the first ever Pirate Day in November 2014. The pirate theme was inspired by Conor’s need to wear an eye patch because of his surgery and treatments. The day was an overwhelming success and Conor decided he would write to all Australian primary schools to ask them to hold their own Pirate Day.
Of all childhood cancers, brain cancer is currently the least treatable, with some types being considered incurable. The only way to change that is if kind people like you band together to help fund vital research now. That’s why, during brain cancer awareness month each May, generous pirates dust off their swash-buckling best and gather as much treasure as they can for a great cause.
It is important that we build citizens of the world who have empathy and compassion for those around them and want to contribute and make a difference in this world. This is why Landsdale Primary School ensure we support multiple causes for different charities and organisations to show our students the diversity of our community and beyond.
As a staff we also focus on giving back, we are having our own Biggest Morning Tea today which is raising money for the Cancer Council of WA. This worthy cause is so important as many of us have in some way been impacted by cancer at some point in our lives.
Also on my focus on giving back, this Friday 24th May is P&C Day. P&C Day WA was started by WACSSO in 2019 as a day for school communities to give thanks to their P&C for all their hard work and contributions. The day was celebrated by schools, parliament members, and other education stakeholders throughout Western Australia, with a range of different events being held to show appreciation for P&C members.
P&C Day continues to grow, with last year's celebrations having the largest participation yet. There was strong participation from school communities throughout the State.
I would like to give my sincere gratitude and thanks to our Landsdale Primary School P&C for their wonderful contributions to our school infrastructure, educational resources, our Landsdale Primary School Bush Blues Café Canteen, our volunteers, fundraising, school events, parent support and so so much more! We truly couldn’t have the school community we have without you and you are very much appreciated. Keep your eyes out for more tomorrow for P&C Day.
Kind regards,
Kerryn Woodhouse

Library News … with Mrs Murray
P&C Mother’s Day Stall
We had a fantastic Friday in the Library for the annual P&C Mother’s Day stall. Thank you so much to our wonderful P&C team of Mrs Nerissa Toh, Mrs Jodie Ward, Mrs Michelle Santoro and all the hardworking parent volunteers who assisted to make this such a beautiful event for our students. The smiles on the faces of our students were priceless! We hope all our mothers and grandmothers had a lovely Mother’s Day.
Narelle Wynter Author Incursion
Our pre-primary students were treated to a visit from local children’s author, Narelle Wynter. Over two days, Narelle engaged each pre-primary class in fabulous, fun activities related to her picture book, “I’d Rather Eat Chocolate.” They read and retold the story using props to reinforce the theme of eating fresh vegetables to grow healthy, happy bodies and minds. Students were then given the opportunity to tap out word syllables on the bongo drums and investigate rhyming words. Following that, the students went outside to create and decorate a mini vegetable garden. They took home carrot, broccoli, snowpeas and zucchini seeds to grow in their mini gardens. Thank you to Mrs Duffy, Mrs Atefi, Mrs Seeley and Mrs Bonanno for embracing this incursion with enthusiasm. Narelle’s book is now available to borrow from our Library.
