From the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we come to the end of Semester 1 of 2024 I would like to say a big thank you for all of your support this year so far for our school, staff, students and wider community.
This term we have raised much needed funds for the Kid’s Cancer Project and the Cancer Council, as well raised awareness and understanding of Autism. Ensuring that we build moral, empathetic citizens of the world who give back and value difference is part of our philosophy at Landsdale Primary School and these whole school focuses will continue well into the future here.
We have also celebrated and appreciated our Parents and Citizen’s Association (P&C) here at Landsdale Primary School for everything they do for our school and community. This term the P&C have enabled our students to have the Mother’s Day Stall, School Disco and our LPS Bush Blues Café Canteen. Thank you again to our P&C, Bush Blues Café Canteen staff and our volunteers who contribute to making our school a wonderful place to be!
Our staff have also been involved in supporting their own mental health and wellbeing with many taking part in after school yoga classes and our team building quiz afternoon and staff function. These opportunities are extremely important for our own connection, relationship building, problem solving skills and workforce as a whole.
We have also commenced our engagement program for selected students in Year 5 and 6 this term. The program has been developed with the involvement of our chaplain, Mrs Michelle Bispo, our Physical Education (Outdoor education) specialist, Mr Josh Brown, and our Level 3, Year 6 teacher, Mrs Ella Marrion. The program addresses the needs of students who require alternative ways to learn and develop, including:
- outside the classroom in nature (some fabulous outdoor education experiences)
- with hands-on authentic experiences – projects decided by students as well as designing and constructing a ‘bush classroom’ at Landsdale school
- social emotional growth (building self-esteem, growth mindset and belonging, self-regulation, building social connection and communication
We are looking forward to seeing what our students can do next term in this program!.
At Landsdale Primary School we have also had a large focus on building the personal attributes of leadership with our Team Leaders and Administration through professional learning and the Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test, which is the only abilities based test to accurately measure and develop emotional intelligence. This focus will support an emotionally intelligent workforce and leaders who have a much greater understanding of themselves and others around them. We look forward to continuing this journey into the future.
Our 2023 School Annual Report has also been noted by our Landsdale Primary School Board and has been published on Schools Online. It can be accessed at the following URL
Unfortunately due to weather our Winter Lighting Carnival had to be postponed to the 25th June. We hope all of our students and staff have a fantastic day representing our school.
In Week 11 we are celebrating NAIDOC Week and the theme for 2024 is Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud. Neville Collard, a highly respected Nyungar Elder will work with our students over 3 days to develop their cross-cultural awareness through a range of engaging activities. Students will have the opportunity to learn about First Nations cultures and history through participation in a smoking ceremony, making damper, boomerang throwing, spear throwing, tasting kangaroo stew, story telling and dance. We are very excited for all our students to be involved in this very special cultural incursion.
As this will be our last newsletter of the term I would also like to wish all of our families a safe and happy Winter break. Term 3 is also full of lots of fantastic whole school events and opportunities for our students. I look forward to seeing everyone again after the holiday period.
Kind regards,
Kerryn Woodhouse
