UR Strong and Friend-O-Leader Updates
Dear School Community,
As part of our friendship program 'UR Strong' at Landsdale Primary, we are committed to supporting our students and upskilling them to work through their Friendship Fires®. These are the regular, normal conflict situations that may occur with a friend.
As Friendship Fact #1 teaches us, no friendship (or relationship) is perfect. It’s normal for us to encounter conflict with our friends. The Friend-o-cycle helps us see that Friendship Fires® are a normal part of a friendship and, when they’re put out in a respectful way, can actually make a friendship closer & stronger.
The Friend-o-cycle was developed to help kids recognise the very normal cycle that friendships go through. When trust & respect is central, friendships can survive conflict and get back into the healthy zone of the Friend-o-meter. The Talk-it-Out phase is where skills come in (and kids need to practice!) to put a Friendship Fire® all the way out and move on to Forgive & Forget. Students are taught the specific skills of how to 'Talk-it-Out' with a friend, when they are both calm and ready to talk.
As part of this program, our AMAZING art specialist Liza Holland has create our LPS 'Talk-it-Out' space for students to use during playtimes. This is an area where students, who are having a Friendship Fire,® are able to have an open and honest conversation about what happened, and how it made them feel. Most importantly, students are also taught to be open to listen to the other person's point of view and 'Talk-it-Out' until the Friendship Fire® is put out.
We thank Mrs Holland for creating this awesome space for our students to use for this purpose. 🙂
Also to update our community, we are currently in the nomination process for our 2025 Friend-o-Leaders. In week 3, the current Year 6 Friend-o-Leaders visited each of the Year 5 classrooms to explain the nomination process for our future Friend-o-Leaders for 2025. Each Year 5 student has been provided with the opportunity to nominate for this leadership role. A selection process will now occur, in consultation with the administration team. Successful applicants will be notified and provided with further information in regards to training by the end of week 6. Good luck to all of the applicants!

Landsdale Athletics Carnival – Monday 12th August and Friday 16th August
It's that exciting time of the year for the Phys. Ed. department as we approach our 2024 Athletics Carnivals (Week 5). Attached are the schedules for both the Monday (Jumps/Throws/Distance Races) & Friday (Sprints/Relays/Team Games) events.
The events are for Year 1-6 students as Kindy/Pre-Primary students only participate in running races on the Friday. Families are more than welcome to come and support, we just ask that you remain in the supporters' areas behind the bunting so that the teachers are able to organise and transition their students.

Transition and Additional Supports Expo at Ashdale Secondary College – Wed 4th Sept at 4pm
Ashdale Secondary College will be hosting its first ever Transition and Additional Support Expo on Wednesday 4th September from 16.00pm to 18.00pm.
This event is designed for families and students seeking additional support within both the College and wider community. The aim of the Expo is to showcase the variety of support providers available to students and families as we hope to strengthen their knowledge and understanding on how to access these services.
There will be a wide variety of support providers and organisations from a variety of fields catering to students of all ages, from Kindergarten to Year 12.
Please see the attached flyer that highlights the full list of providers, which include and are not limited to:
- Support Providers: Offering specialised assistance to students with diverse needs
- Employment Services: Providing pathways for students transitioning into the workforce
- Tertiary Education Providers: Offering information about post-secondary education options.
- Sports and Social Groups: Highlighting extracurricular opportunities
- Advocacy Groups: Advocating for students’ rights and wellbeing
Moreover, all students, staff and families are welcome to attend and it’s important to note that students do not require NDIS support or a formal diagnosis to access support from many of the support providers on offer.
