Dear Parents and Caregivers
Welcome back to Term 4! We have a very exciting term ahead!
Cross Walks at our School
At the end of last week I was out at the crosswalk with Lynn (one of our Children’s Crossing Guards) as there have been a few instances where safety has been a concern. At our school we have lots of students and families which means before school and after school is very busy here. Please remember:
- Please ensure you are adhering to the speed limit at all times.
- Please ensure you are with your child/ren when using the crosswalk (Children’s Crossing Guards do not have duty of care). Older children may walk to school however some of our younger students are not yet road aware.
- Please do not stop on Southmead Drive and let children out of the car blocking traffic. Please use ‘the Kiss and Drive’ located on The Broadview.
- Please show respect and consideration to our Children’s Crossing Guards. They are a wonderful asset to our school and part of our community.
- Please ensure you are stopping before the marked lines when the crosswalks are being utilised.
- Teach your child to use the stop, look, listen and think procedure to cross. Remind your child to continue checking the traffic as some vehicles do not always stop.
Road safety is all of our responsibility. Please work together to ensure the safety of our students and wider community.
Included in this newsletter is a ‘Road Safety Around Schools Guidelines Fact Sheet’. Please read this, and click on the links, for further information on road safety.
Kindest regards,
Ms Kerryn Woodhouse

Meet your Friend-o-Leaders 2023

Hi Everyone!
We would like to introduce ourselves to you for 2023! We are a group of students in year five and we have been training to become ‘Friend-o-Leaders’ as part of our UR Strong Friendship Program at Landsdale Primary.
You will find us roaming around the top oval and junior playground each lunchtime. We want to help you with your ‘Friendship Fires.’ A Friendship Fire is when a student has a disagreement or misunderstanding with another student. It is NOT mean-on-purpose behaviour (duty teachers/adults will help students deal with these issues) but normal friendship conflict.
You will be able to see us wearing green vests and we will have our UR Strong lanyards on. We can help you with some tips and strategies to support you with your friendships at lunchtimes. We can remind you of the 4 Friendship Facts, see where your friendship is on the Friend-o-Meter, we can help you talk-it-out with your friend (if you are both ready) and generally help you with any friendship issues you may need some extra support with.
Feel free to come up and have a chat to us if you want to - we’d love to get to know even more friends at Landsdale Primary.
Our lunchtime roster, and a poster with our faces introducing ourselves will be posted on the window of each wet area so you can find out what your Friend-o-Leaders look like!
Thanks so much, we look forward to meeting you and helping you out in the playground!

Class Placement Requests
The school is now planning for classes and class structure for the 2024 school year. As you would imagine it is very difficult to predict enrolment numbers this far out from the beginning of next year.
Landsdale Primary School ensures classes are formed in such a way as to best meet the needs of its students. The school spends a considerable amount of time creating its class structure which is based upon the professional judgements of staff with the aim of creating the best learning environment for each student. All factors are considered when making these judgements. The best interest of all students is paramount when making placement decisions.
Parents and carers may request a specific class placement through providing the school with educational reasoning behind this request. This may be in the form of specific information about their child’s learning needs that they believe the school may not be aware of. Such information would not include any requests regarding a particular individual teacher. Please be aware that these requests may be considered but not automatically accommodated. Please email Mrs Tania Burke tania.burke@education.wa.edu.au or send a letter marked ‘Private and Confidential’ to Mrs Burke by Friday 27th October 2023.
Class lists will be formed and then reviewed by all staff and submitted to the Executive Team for further review. Following this, any changes to class placement will only be made in exceptional circumstances, however this tends to be extremely rare.

Landsdale PS – Our 2023 Plastic Use Survey
Year 3s at Landsdale Primary School are working on a major integrated Sustainability and Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) Design project in Semester 2, 2023. Our goal is to find ways to reduce plastic and packaging, as well as food waste in our daily life, so that we protect our environment into the future.
Part of this project is collecting data and information to identify the areas in which we can imagine, design, create and test solutions.
This survey will collect anonymous responses to find out some of the areas in which our school community uses plastic in our everyday lives. It will also collect information about waste disposal.
We want to significantly reduce the use of plastic to ensure our oceans and waterways do not become even more polluted with plastics and microplastics. We want to reduce organic (particularly food) waste disposal which can be a major source of greenhouse gas emissions which negatively affect our climate.
Please help us to make a positive difference to ALL our futures, NOW!
PLEASE ONLY HAVE ONE FAMILY MEMBER COMPLETE THE SURVEY

AusBike – Learn to Ride
Just a quick reminder that AusBike will be launching on the Landsdale Primary School oval this week. We’ve had a small number of kids register already, but we’d love a few more.
AusBike is aimed at kids aged 5-12 years old who are starting out on the bike riding journey. The program is delivered over 8 weeks in Term 4 and aims to teach kids how to ride in a safe and controlled environment. The sessions will be delivered by an accredited AusCycling coach with a lot of experience working with children.
Registration for the program is open now. It would be amazing if you could share this information with your school community before the coming holidays.
