6 April 2023

From the Principal

Dear parents and caregivers,

The Easter holidays are upon us. We certainly have had an exciting term one, with lots of special events happening. Swimming lessons, Harmony week celebrations and NAPLAN testing. The P&C re-opened the canteen after extensive renovations.

Harmony week

Many thanks to all the community members who got involved with the FoodFest. Over the week the school community raised over $1300 for the UN Earthquake Appeal for children in Turkiye and Syria.

ANZAC assembly

The school and community will be remembering ANZAC Day at a special whole school assembly on Monday 24th April starting at 1.45pm. The school day will be moved slightly to ensure we are all seated ready to begin promptly. Families and community members are invited to join us from 1.30pm.

Uniform Working Party

There has been some on-going discussion about the school uniform material. The school and Tudor uniforms would like to work together with the parent body to review. We are seeking 2 parents to be part of the working party. If you are interested please contact me by email Natalie.Bracegirdle@education.wa.edu.au

Birthday letters

For many years now the principal has sent out birthday letters to students. Often these letters are left crumpled at the bottom of bags or lost. The admin team would like to know if these letters are still valued by the children and parent community? Is it sustainable to print out 820 letters each year? Please send your comments/thoughts to me Natalie.Bracegirdle@education.wa.edu.au and these will be taken into consideration as we plan for 2024.

Prime drinks

Just a reminder that Landsdale PS has banned Prime energy drinks. The drinks are NOT suitable for children under 15 years old as they contain a number of stimulants that effect children. Please do not send your child to school with the drinks or the bottles.

New Principal

Ms Kerryn Woodhouse has been appointed to Landsdale Primary School from week 2 of next term. Kerryn has been a principal at Bicton Primary School for the last 6 years and is very excited about starting at Landsdale. I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome Kerryn to Landsdale and look forward to working together. I have attached a letter from Kerryn for you.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support while I have been in the role of principal. I wish you all a safe and happy Easter break and look forward to seeing you all back at school on Monday 24th April to start term 2.

Natalie Bracegirdle
Principal

Art News …. with Ms Gandy

Harmony Week

To celebrate Harmony Week, students from Year PP/1 to Year 6 contributed to colouring in our harmony day poster during their art lesson. It was displayed on Friday afternoon to end an amazing week of connected culture and community.

Thank you to all who contributed.

Youth Leadership Forum

On Thursday 23rd March, our student ministers attended the Wanneroo Youth Leadership Forum at the civic centre. This was also attended by 5 primary schools and 3 high schools. Once there, the ministers listened to various presenters who talked about what leadership actually is. The main focus of the day was for each group to develop a Community Action Plan. This is a project that will benefit the local community. The Landsdale team came up with the idea of creating a mural on a suitable wall, hopefully with the help of a local artist. The students also expressed a desire for the mural to reflect the aboriginal heritage of the surrounding area and to use recycled material if possible. The next step is for the team to develop the plan in more detail.

Sports News …. with Mr Baggio & Mr Brown

Monday Morning Running Club

Congratulations to Noah A and Skye F for hitting 200 laps and Aston T for hitting 100 laps in our Monday Morning Running Club.

Basketball Tournament

Congratulations to our 2 Landsdale P.S. basketball teams who competed brilliantly in the School Slam Series at HBF Arena in Joondalup. This was the school’s first time fielding basketball teams for a tournament.

Our A team made it to the grand final of the 16-team competition with an undefeated run. However in true Hollywood fashion, lost to Quinns Baptist with an incredible 3-pointer on the final buzzer.

Our B team were very unlucky not to make the Semi-Finals (where they would have faced our A team) losing only one game in the group stages.

Mr. Brown and I were impressed by the skill, perseverance and sportsmanship displayed on the day and in the lead-up.

Mr. Baggio

P&C 2023

We are so happy to announce that after our Special Meeting held on 1st March 2023 that we can introduce your 2023 Committee (the full committee will be on our Facebook page soon). Please congratulate and welcome to the team:

President: Mark Green
Vice President: Sonya March
Secretary: Kristie Fleming
Treasurer: Kellie Nanavati

The fundraising and events calendar for 2023 is up and running with many of the usual events for students all approved, keep watch of our fb page for all the updates to stay current.

One thing as president I have already learned is that there is an enormous effort (past and present) put in by everyone involved in the P&C to ensure that the P&C continues to run and provides a great community service for the children & the school.

2023 is going to be a great year and I can already see plenty of work in the background to make all the events and fundraising a success. It is great to see we already have 6 large events and workshops in the making along with continued operations of the canteen.

Many thanks,

Mark
P&C President 2023

P&C News – Roadwise

Each term has designated year groups for parents to volunteer for a session to help Kiss N Drive in the afternoon. Parents are able to forward plan their session into the year and change as required.

Please note that the Kiss N Drive is not just the responsibility of the school, the Kiss N Drive is outside school grounds and is not the responsibility of the school to run, that's where parents and volunteers come in.

The roster updates in real time which makes changes immediately allowing the roster to look after itself.

A link to the roster is below. The Roadwise Committee will do the first week of each term as we return to school. Thursday of the first week will double as a training session for those who wish to see how easy it is before you do your own.

All parents participating that term will go into a raffle to win one of two $10 vouchers for the canteen and don’t forget you also have the use of a staff car park on the day you volunteer for Kiss N Drive. If you find it as easy as you thought it would be, roster in for a second or third session for more entries into the draw!!

This was Kiss N Drive's first major change to how it’s been run in the school’s 24 year history and has been running for a couple of years now. The committee was so excited to spread the word and see this grow year on year after much planning and to have it be so successful was an extra win.

Now it’s over to the parents of 2023 to help even ‘just once’ to make it a success.

Contact our Roadwise Coordinator for any questions on lpspandcroadwise@gmail.com

Now it’s up to all of us! Please help us to spread the word by sharing and talking to each other about the roster. Parent Link will help to remind year groups through the year to communicate this to all our families as well. Our year 1 & 5 parents are up for term 2.

Term 1 – Year 2 & 6
Term 2 – Year 1 & 5
Term 3 – Year All Years
Term 4 – Year 3 & 4

Note all Years’ Time slots / Schedules are available so would be great to see the schedule fill up.

Welcome to Bilingual Families Perth

Bilingual Families Perth is a not-for-profit network of linguistically diverse people in Western Australia.

Our network connects over 500 families and individuals from more than 40 language backgrounds. In the past 10 years we have provided support for families who speak Afrikaans, Bengali, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Cantonese, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Farsi, Finnish, French, German, Gujarati, Greek, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Macedonian, Malay, Malayalam, Mandarin, Mongolian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Samoan, Serbian, Spanish, Swahili, Swiss-German, Swedish, Tagalog, Tamil, Turkish, Vietnamese besides various dialects of the relevant languages.

Most families have pre-school or school-aged children and we are experiencing similar issues while raising our children in more than one language. We also work together with professionals who share information on bilingualism and multilingualism. We can probably put you in touch with people who speak your language.

More information about our groups

As well as running the Telethon Holiday Makers Program, we also run social groups throughout the school year. Using a strengths-based approach , we connect autistic young people with others and provide opportunities for social interaction, engagement and fun. Designed for specific age ranges, the social groups offer a regular program of events and activities for members. We provide a place where individuals from 10 years old to adults can come to have fun, develop new friendships and develop new skills, enabling them to begin to apply social skills in a natural environment. Participants are invited to make decisions on what they would like to do throughout the term, both individually and as a group. If participants have a plan or self-managed NDIS plan, they can use their funds to access our services, but we also have a limited number of subsidised rates for those without NDIS funding.
