17 December 2015
From the Principal
Dear Parents, Staff and Students,
Congratulations to all of our graduating Year 6's on a fantastic Graduation on Wednesday. Good luck to all of the students in their secondary endeavours. Thank you to the Year 6 teachers - Ms Jessica Screaigh, Mr Peter Hayward, Miss Lisa Harris, Mr Dylan Rayner and also Music Specialist Mr Andrew Angel, for the preparation and presentation of such a wonderful event.
Reports have been given out to students on Wednesday. Reports not picked up by Thursday will be mailed out during the holidays if you have provided a stamped self-addressed envelope. Alternatively reports can be picked up at the beginning of the 2016 academic year from the school office.
Thank you to all of the wonderful staff at Landsdale Primary School for their hard work and professional approach this year. I would like in particular to thank and farewell the following staff:-
Mr Angel who will be greatly missed by parents, staff and students. Andrew brought a wealth of knowledge and skills to Landsdale and developed the Music program to new heights of excellence. We wish Andrew all the best in his new school.
We also thank and farewell Mr Machowiak who has worked collaboratively with our Arts staff so ably. Ben took our Drama students and also assisted Andrew in setting up and preparing students for assemblies and for MAD performances.
Mr Farrell leaves the Phys Ed role and did a great job assisted Mr Puccinelli. He has obtained another position full time, which is well deserved and we wish him well. Miss Jessica Screaigh, who has been an asset to our Year Seven, and now Year Six Program. Jess leaves for an adventure and new experiences at a NSW school. We will miss her and thank her for the collaborative journey she has helped lead and the amazing capacity for making complex things easy for others to understand.
Miss Harris and Mrs Roberts are also leaving to follow their professional path. Miss Harris has been a leader in our Year Six program and will be missed for her enthusiasm and high level of curriculum knowledge. Mrs Roberts has worked hard in the Year 5 class and while only at Landsdale for a brief time will be missed by many.
Mrs Kym Rice and Mrs Sharon Wandby who have worked so ably in Pre-Primary this year, we wish you well in the future.
Mrs Leonie Forrest and Mrs Nadine Fordham worked so diligently in our Kindy classes and were great supports for the staff and students during the year.
Our Canadian exchange colleague Mrs Elva Lacey leaves us to return home and we thank her for all her hard work and for the insights into Canadian culture. Best wishes to Ms Cynthia McCleary who after taking 12 months leave to work in Canada on exchange, has been appointed to Marmion Primary School. Cynthia is a foundation staff member and will be missed greatly for her professional knowledge, friendship and the wonderful sharing of her culinary skills.
Finally we thank our wonderful special needs assistants Mrs Carmen Sullivan, Mrs Corinne Morris and Mrs Ruth Blackburn for their caring and professional approach to supporting the education and welfare of the students in their care.
We wish the utmost of professional and personal success and enjoyment in 2016 and onwards to these staff. Change is often an opportunity for new perspectives and opportunities and as we continue to strive towards a world class education at Landsdale we look forward to even greater things for all in 2016.
The visit last Wednesday by Hon Malcolm Turnbull (Prime Minister), Hon Karen Andrews (Assistant Science Minister) and the Hon Luke Simpkins (Member for Cowan), was an affirmation of the innovative programs we at Landsdale have been implementing over many years. Congratulations to all our staff on your contribution to our journey and the commitment to preparing our students for their future.

Class Placements for Students
Class placements for students are being developed by teachers in conjunction with parent requests. There are many considerations for student placements so please understand that while all requests are considered, not all are able to be acted on. We find that given a couple of weeks the students have settled into their new classes well, a little resiliency initially pays off in the long run. Experience tells us that we potentially have more enrolments in the week before school starts, so as usual we will not be announcing class placements until Friday 29th January. The class lists will be displayed from 9.00am outside the front office. We wish to avoid as much as possible telling children they are with a particular teacher only to have that change because of increased enrolments.
2016 Personal Requirements Lists
2016 Personal Requirements lists were sent home with students earlier this term. If you have not received a copy please contact the office. Orders must be placed by Friday 18th December 2015 to guarantee delivery before Term 1 2016.
Students Not Returning to Landsdale in 2016
Just another reminder to please let us know if your children in current Pre-Primary to Year 5 will no longer be attending Landsdale Primary School next year because you are moving or changing schools. We are doing our best to get well organised for a smooth start to 2016 but we rely on your help in this important area. All schools are funded according to our enrolments so it is very important that we plan on accurate enrolment numbers. Families who know they will not be returning to Landsdale Primary School in 2016 are asked to click on the attached link or phone the school.

OTHER FUNDRAISING VENTURES 2016
2016 will be a busy year book-ended by the Quiz Night in Term 1 and the School Fete in Term 4. We'll be looking for mums and dads to help us help the school community not just for these big events but also for other planned events throughout the year. To help you think about where you might help out and also so you know what's coming when, this is a rough calendar of fundraising events for 2016.
Term 1 - Back to School Quiz Night (week 7, 19 March), Easter Egg raffle (week 8), Entertainment Book (week 9?) Term 2 - Mothers Day Stall (week 2), Lapathon (TBA) Term 3 - Fathers Day Stall (week 7), School disco (TBA) Term 4 - School Fete (week 7, 25 November?), kid's art products such as calendars/cards/plates (TBA).
In the mix may also be crazy hair days, sausage sizzles, etc.
At the beginning of the year, the P&C will discuss the school's wish list and funding priorities. It has already committed profits from the Quiz Night to the nature play areas but some additional ideas for 2016 include fans or some sort of cooling for the undercover area. If you have any good ideas, why dont you come along to the P&C meetings in Term 1 in Week's 3 and 7 and join in on the conversation!
A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THE VOLUNTEERS FOR 2015!
