From the Principal

Dear Parents and Families,

Principal’s Perspective

I am well pleased to be at Landsdale Primary School. I have been a principal for many years in schools as far as the Gibson Desert, Laverton, goldfields, wheatbelt and in the metropolitan area. I applied for Landsdale Primary as it has a strong reputation for innovative programs that meet the needs of your children.

I have started listening to many people as I am interested in how people view the school. This will give me an understanding of the aspects that the community value about the school.

Soon, there will be only standing and no parking in the ‘Kiss and Drive’ bay at the school. Cars will be able to stay for a short amount of time, with the driver in the car, while you wait for your children. The City of Wanneroo Parking Compliance Officers will be in attendance to enforce the no parking provision from time to time.

Regards,

Tony Beswick
Principal

ANZAC Assembly

ANZAC Assembly
VIEW GALLERY
ANZAC Assembly

It was a very successful and moving ANZAC Assembly at the end of term and a wonderful first performance by our choir. I commend Miss Rogerson on her hard work organising the assembly and especially the preparation of the choir. It was lovely to have the guides and scouts in attendance again this year along with our special guests.

It was wonderful to be able to honour the New Zealand component of the ANZAC’s by our Prime Minister boy Jayden Paul delivering the Ode in Maori. We thank him and his family for their contribution and support. Once again Mrs Brotherton excelled as our bugler and we are so grateful for her continued participation.

Thank you for the contributions of flowers for the wreaths and the support from all the families who attended. A special thank you to Mrs Belstead in the canteen for the breakfast. It was nice to see all enjoying a family breakfast prior to the assembly.

School Learning Journey Open Night – Wednesday 25th May

Dear Parents,

Our School Learning Journey evening (Open Night) this year will be held on Wednesday 25th May, Week 5 of this term.

Times are: 4.30pm – 6.30pm (PP-6), and from 4.00pm – 6.00pm at the Trentham Road Annex (K). Please note for security reasons finishing times must be adhered to, especially at the offsite annex.

Classroom teachers will open their classrooms in a learning journey format, with activities and challenges for students to undertake with their parents. These activities reflect the learning that occurs in classrooms, and allows parents to experience current curriculum content and school priorities. Specialist staff will also be providing experiences at various locations around the school. Each parent will receive a passport to help them navigate their way around the activities. Please remember this is not a time for interviews with your child’s teacher, however friendly and courteous interaction is encouraged!

Classroom activities will take approximately 15mins to complete, and parents are encouraged to also visit:

  • The basketball courts/under covered area for physical challenges with Mr P.
  • The library with Mrs Murray, where there will be activities based around a picture book, which parents can borrow and read at home.
  • The library to check out the huge range of parenting books available for borrowing.
  • The Art Room with Mrs Nixon.
  • The Music Room with Miss Rogerson.
  • The Literacy Room with Mrs Della Gatta and Mrs Woods, if students attend classes in there. (This room won’t be open until around 5pm, due to DSF Literacy Classes until 4.30pm)
  • The Library for an Italian display with Mrs Scott.
  • The Science Room, LA 19 with Mr Cavallaro and Mrs Bell.

Parents will also be required to complete a parent survey while at school, either in the wet areas of the blocks or in the library.

We look forward to welcoming all parents to our open night.

Lap-A-Thon

Our annual school Lap-A-Thon will take place on Thursday, 26th May from 2pm on the bottom oval. Years 1-3 students will run around an ‘inner circle’ whilst the years 4-6 students will run around an outer circle. This is a terrific fund raising activity so hopefully everyone can come on board and raise as much funds for the school as we can.

Legends Of Landsdale

Our school cross-country, the Legends of Landsdale, will take place on Friday, 24th June. This will be a busy week for students as the Lightning Carnival will take place on 21st June and the Cluster Muster on 23rd June. It will commence from 11.20am starting with the year 1’s followed by the year 2’s. The year 3’s will commence after lunch followed by the year 4’s, then the year 5’s will commence their race at 2pm followed by the year 6’s. I encourage all students to participate.

Again, we will participate in a local cross-country event at Penistone Reserve. We will be fielding the top 4 boy and girl students from years 1/2 (juniors), 3/4 (intermediate) and 5 and 6’s (seniors). Selections will be based on their time from the Legends of Landsdale event, so there may be three year 2 students and one year 1 student representing the school in the junior division. This is in line with how the other schools nominate their competitors. This event will take place on Friday, 19th August.

Parents can independently nominate their children in the annual School Sport WA cross-country interschool event, please visit:

Music Notes …. With Miss Rogerson

The new Landsdale extension choir will be beginning in Week 2, students who have been notified of their acceptance into the choir do not need to attend LPS choir on Tuesday.

P&C President’s Report

The P&C is a voluntary committee that provides services to students and their families, supports the school staff, assists in fundraising for the school and contributes to building the school community. Any parent can join the P&C at any General Meeting. To have the right to vote on P&C decisions, members must be “financial”, which only costs $1 for the whole year. It is a great way of meeting new people and being kept up to date with P&C initiatives happening around our school. Meetings are held on Tuesday nights in week 3 and week 7 of each term in the school staffroom. The next meeting for the P&C is being held this Tuesday 10th May at 7:30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend so please come along.

KISS 'N' DRIVE

Kiss 'n' Drive seems to be going well at the moment and most parents using this service are doing the right thing and following the directions of the wardens. Thank you to those parents who do use Kiss 'n' Drive correctly. We are still in need for volunteers for this service to be able to run. A big thank you to all our current volunteers.

Thank you to everyone who donated items for Mother’s Day. All items were greatly appreciated.

AMBER Menu Items

The canteen would also like to remind parents that we are not allowed to sell two AMBER food items. So please do not order pies or pizzas with nuggets. The canteen can make an Apple Slinky out of your child’s apple from home. They just need to put it into a zip lock plastic bag, put their name and LA on the front of the bag and put it into the class lunch basket first thing in the morning. We will make the apple into an Apple Slinky and your child can then pick it up from the canteen at RECESS time. We do not charge for this service.

Ice creams can be prepaid from the canteen in the morning. Ice cream tokens will be provided for you to pass out to the children in the class. The Tokens can then be taken to the canteen to be exchanged for an ice cream.

Uniform Shop News

The Uniform Shop will be open tomorrow (Friday 6th May) from 8.00am until 8.45am.

Interested in Becoming A Safety House?

Safety House is a community based "Good Neighbour" program of volunteer householders. It's easy to be a member of Safety House, it costs you absolutely nothing and you could be doing something important to help protect vulnerable young children. You can make a difference in your local community.

  • Before you can be a Safety House, everyone living in the house aged 14 and over must consent to having a continuously monitored police check which is fully paid for by Safety House.

If you are interested or have any queries, please contact Sally Pellegrini, Landsdale Primary's Safety House Coordinator, at sally.pellegrini@gmail.com or leave a message at the school office on 9302 4100.
