2 June 2016
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
Thanks to all the parents and caregivers that attended the parents' night on 26th May. It was great to see so many dads having fun with their children, and sometimes taking over the games! Linking your family with your child's learning is important as it shows that education and learning is very important.
On the night I asked many parents how they felt about the school and the answers show that people are proud of the school and how teachers care about each child. Certainly, the behaviour of students during the night was exemplary and a testament to how Landsdale parents have done a great job of bringing up their children.
The School Board met on the night also. They will be involved with creating the school direction with help from Landsdale Primary staff members and, subsequently, be involved in determining the school's level of success in following that direction.
Regards,
Tony Beswick
Principal

Winter Sports
This term, students in Years 5 & 6 have been practising and competing in a number of winter sports on Friday afternoons. Tomorrow we play a 'friendly' against Ashdale Primary School. The culmination of all this training will end with a Lightning Carnival to be held at Kingsway Sporting Complex on Tuesday, 21st June beginning at 9.15am.
All students will participate in the friendly, with Year 6's given first preference to represent the school at the Lightning Carnival.
There has been a change to the initial fixture, with the Football A team playing at Ashdale Primary School and Soccer Girls playing at Ashdale Secondary College.
If you are able to assist in washing footy jumpers, soccer shirts and socks after the friendly that would be much appreciated as we need them ready for the Lightning Carnival on 21st June.

Legends of Landsdale
Our school cross-country, the Legends of Landsdale, will take place on Friday, 24th June. This will be a busy week for students as the Lightning Carnival will take place on 21st June and the Cluster Muster on 23rd June. It will commence from 11.20am starting with the Year 1's followed by the Year 2's running approximately 600m. The Year 3's will commence after lunch followed by the Year 4's, then the Year 5's will commence their race at 2pm followed by the Year 6's.The distance for the Year 3-6 events is approximately 1500m. I encourage all students to participate.
Again, we will participate in a local cross-country event at Penistone Reserve. We will be fielding the top 4 boy and girl students from Years 1/2 (juniors) who run 600m, Years 3/4 (intermediate) who run 1300m and Years 5 and 6's (seniors) who run 2000m. Selections will be based on their time from the Legends of Landsdale event, so there may be three Year 2 students and one Year 1 student representing the school in the junior division. This is in line with how the other schools nominate their competitors. This event will take place on Friday, 19th August.
Parents can independently nominate their children in the annual School Sport WA cross-country interschool event, please visit the website below for more information.

P&C President's Report
Recently, I witnessed, first hand one of our traffic wardens being verbally abused by a parent wanting to pick their child up from school. This occurred near the service entry on Warradale Terrace. We all know parking isn't great around the school, however, this area is not a safe area to pick up and drop off kids at the school. The Kiss n' Drive at the front of the school is the safest place to pick up and drop off children. It is a controlled environment which is supposed to provide a smooth traffic flow for the community while ensuring your children are able to enter and exit a car safely. By following the directions of the traffic wardens your children's safety is ensured. In saying that, our traffic wardens at Kiss n' Drive are unpaid volunteers and should be treated with the utmost respect as their priority is your child's safety. This does not just refer to Kiss n' Drive volunteers but all volunteers. Our volunteers give up their personal time to aid the P&C so we can provide much needed resources for the school. Please respect all our volunteers.
On a better note, thank you to everyone who supported the lapathon. The money raised from this will go towards the school's wishlist items.
Also, a big thank you to the kids, parents and teachers for supporting us with the 5c fundraiser. I have never seen so many 5c pieces! Congratulations to the class who won the first week of the challenge and good luck to all classes for this week. I will keep you posted on how much money we raise from both of these fundraisers.
The P&C will be holding an election day sausage sizzle on 2nd July. If you have some spare time that day, we would love some help. If you would like to help out, even if it's for half an hour, please contact me at anferguson1977@gmail.com

Interested in Becoming A Safety House?
Safety House is a community based "Good Neighbour" program of volunteer householders. It's easy to be a member of Safety House, it costs you absolutely nothing and you could be doing something important to help protect vulnerable young children. You can make a difference in your local community.
Who can be a Safety House?
- A Safety Householder must be a caring adult who is usually in or around their home during school travel time and be ready and willing to assist any child who might seek help at their door.
- Your house must have easy street access to the front door, no screening walls or trees and a Safety House sign easily visible from the street.
- Before you can be a Safety House, everyone living in the house aged 14 and over must consent to having a continuously monitored police check which is fully paid for by Safety House.
If you are interested or have any queries, please contact Sally Pellegrini, Landsdale Primary's Safety House Coordinator, at sally.pellegrini@gmail.com or leave a message at the school office on 9302 4100.
