16 June 2016
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
The school board is asking what three values should be taught at Landsdale Primary School. This information will help the school board construct our vision statement. This vision statement guides the school in the direction that we will be taking for the next three years. So, please tell us what you think when you get a phone text.
The school board is the leading decision-making body in the school. It makes decisions about the direction of the school, helps plan the budget at the beginning of the year and evaluates how the school is achieving the vision statement. The school board chair is Keera Bull. The members are Aberline Attwood, Kahli Bourke, Mimma Della Gatta, Kendra McDonald, Rohan Osment, Margaret Quirk MLA, Debbie Yates and Tony Beswick.
Regards,
Tony Beswick

ICAS Mathematics Testing
The International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) is an independent, skills-based assessment program which recognises and rewards student achievement.
Landsdale Primary School students are able to nominate to complete the Mathematics test which includes mathematical skills in a range of contexts across Algebra and Patterns, Chance and Data, Measures and Units, Number and Arithmetic, and Space and Geometry.
Testing occurs on Tuesday 16th August 2016. All nominations must be notified to the school by Monday 20th June. The cost for each student, payable with nomination, is $8.80 per student.
An individual report evaluating student performance, and a certificate, is provided for each student participating in ICAS.
Each student's report shows:
- the student’s answer to each question as well as the correct answer
- the performance of each student in the different skill areas assessed
- the progress of each student every year over the past eight years
- the student's comparative performance against the reporting region.
Please contact Leonie Mattock to nominate your child for the ICAS Mathematics testing, or for any further information or queries.
A Day Made Better
Our school is filled with amazing teachers, and we’d like your help to say thanks. Nominate them today via the link below and we could win a prize pack valued at $5,000!

Music Notes … with Miss Rogerson
For all students involved in the Landsdale Primary School Choir and the LPS Extension Choir, the Cluster Muster Performance is the morning of Thursday, 23rd June (Week 9). Students must be dropped by parents at Ashdale Secondary College reception at 8:30am as explained on the parent information form sent home in Week 7. The performance will begin at 11:00am, tickets will be sent home with students by Monday, 20th June. If you have any questions about the Cluster Muster excursion or tickets to the performance, please contact Emma Rogerson at Landsdale Primary School.
Cluster Art Display
There is a display of art work from Landsdale Primary students in the Ashdale College foyer. There are also art works from high school students as well as Ashdale and Madeley Primary students. The work features a variety of themes, styles and art techniques completed by students from Years 1 to 6 from art classes with Mr Spano and Mrs Nixon. The work has been beautifully mounted on coloured card and is worth viewing. Congratulations to all the Landsdale students whose work has been selected for the display.
Kindergarten Enrolments for 2017
Kindy enrolments for 2017 are now open and the application period closes on Friday 29th July, 2016. Application forms are available from our website or the front office. Library Book Borrowing Closes Next Week
Just a reminder that term 2 library book borrowing closes on Friday 24th June (Week 9). There will be no class borrowing in week 10. Please ensure that your child’s library books are returned by the due date. We require all books to be returned the week before school closes so they can be scanned, sorted, shelved and repaired (if required). If your child has lost his/her library book, please let Mrs Murray or the classroom teacher know, so an invoice can be arranged for the replacement cost.

Issue 4 of Book Club has been processed and will be delivered to school shortly. Orders will be distributed to classrooms as soon as they arrive at the school. This will definitely be before the July school holidays.

Lightning Carnival
Next Tuesday, 21st June we have our Interschool Lightning Carnival against Ashdale PS and Madeley PS. Games will commence at approximately 9.30am and conclude at 2.30pm. All students involved should have returned their note back by now.
Thank you Storage King for the donation of more shirts, they look terrific. At the time of typing this we were missing 2 shirts from the friendly, numbers 15 and 26. If you child has taken them home please return them ASAP as they are very expensive to replace.
If you are able to assist in scoring or timing for any of the fixtures for the Lighting Carnival please contact me at the school ASAP.
Fixtures are attached.
Runners Club
Runners Club has again returned this year, so if you are interested in running, jogging, walking or strolling some laps, meet me at the top oval at 8.15am on Monday & Thursday mornings. Everybody has the chance to receive a bronze, silver and gold certificate pending how many laps they achieve. Students, parents and teachers are all most welcome to come down and join in the fun!
Legends of Landsdale
Our school cross-country, the Legends of Landsdale, will take place on Friday, 24th June. This will be a busy week for students as the Lightning Carnival will take place on 21st June and the Cluster Muster on 23rd June. It will commence from 11.20am starting with the year 1 students followed by the year 2 students running approximately 600m. The year 3 students will commence after lunch followed by the year 4 students, then the year 5 students will commence their race at 2pm followed by the year 6 students. The distance for the year 3-6 events is approximately 1500m. I encourage all students to participate.
Again, we will be participating in a local cross-country event at Penistone Reserve. We will be fielding the top 4 boy and girl students from years 1/2 (juniors) who run 600m, years 3/4 (intermediate) who run 1300m and years 5 and 6 (seniors) who run 2000m. Selections will be based on their time from the Legends of Landsdale event, so there may be three year 2 students and one year 1 student representing the school in the junior division. This is in line with how the other schools nominate their competitors. This event will take place on Friday, 19th August.
Parents can independently nominate their children in the annual School Sport WA cross-country interschool event, please visit the link below for more information.

P&C President’s Report
Since the last meeting, we have held a number of successful fundraisers. The lapathon has raised approximately $4000 with money still coming in dribs and drabs and our 5c fundraiser raised approximately $1800. A massive thank you to the teachers and parents for supporting these fundraisers and a huge thank you to the students for their participation. This money will go towards school wishlist items. These items directly benefit students. Our next fundraiser will be a crazy hair day on the 1st July followed very closely by the election sausage sizzle held on the 2nd July. If anyone can spare some time to help out at the sausage sizzle, your help would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Alison in the canteen if you're available, or alternatively, you can email me at anferguson1977@gmail.com
