28 July 2016

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Families,

Welcome back for a new term.

I am excited about this term because teachers met together last week and created written year level team plans. The plans included our innovative technology program, literacy and numeracy to personalise learning. At the end of the term we will be looking to see what has been the impact of the chosen strategies.

The new mathematics extension program begins this term. This will stretch the knowledge of selected students from year 2 and 4.

The foundation principal for East Landsdale (planning name) is Mrs Karen Giacomucci. Our role is to be a part of the enrolment process, and we will talk about that later. Even if you are in the catchment area of East Landsdale you can opt to retain your children at Landsdale Primary School.

Last week we had a whole school assembly in which we talked about respect, resilience and honesty. These were the values that parents wanted our school to teach.

Also….

Here are two photos of the fantastic science, technology, engineering and mathematics lesson in Ms Marrion’s class. The students were engaged and brimming full of enthusiasm.

Regards,
Dr Tony Beswick
Principal

Updated Signage – No Parking Permitted -Kiss and Drive Area

Over the school holiday break, the Kiss and Drive parking signage was updated to better reinforce how parents should stop when dropping off/collecting students in the Kiss and Drive area for Landsdale Primary School.

The signage now only permits parents to stop and wait in their vehicles when picking up or dropping off students in the mornings and afternoons. NO PARKING (ie. parking and leaving your vehicle) is permitted in the Kiss and Drive area. Should parents be witnessed parking in this area, City of Wanneroo Parking Compliance officers will be able to give out infringements on the spot.

To ensure the facility operates safely and efficiently, please pay attention to the parent volunteers and staff who will be present at the Kiss and Drive facility from 3pm schools days.

Should you arrive at the school before 3pm you will either need to find an alternate parking spot around the school or drive around the school until 3pm, as parking in the Kiss and Drive area is now not permitted.

We have noticed that pick-up is faster than ever before. Also, we no longer need to call children’s names. Thanks to all who have noticed and complied with the changes.

P.A.I.R Resource for Parents

Landsdale Primary School has recently purchased for parents, P.A.I.R (Parent Assisted Immersive Reading) resource bags for borrowing from the school library.

They are designed for parents of students in Pre-Primary, but could be suitable for Kindy or Year One students. The resource is designed for parents to accelerate reading readiness using at-home read-aloud strategies, that develop literacy skills, oral language, comprehension, social awareness and vocabulary.

Each P.A.I.R bag contains a parent guide, one reading book and an activity book. There are five different reading titles to practice with.

Please see Sharon Murray in the library if you would like to borrow a bag.

East Landsdale Primary School

As you will be aware East Landsdale Primary School (planning name) will open in 2017 and cater for students from kindergarten to year six, with the capacity to facilitate up to 430 students.

The school is part of the Ashdale Education Cluster and is in the Ashdale Secondary College catchment area. I have started working closely with the Principals in the cluster to ensure the Aims and Targets set are achieved for all children regardless of the school they attend.

I am excited to be the principal of this new education facility that will have students at the heart of its work through a culture of 'high performance and high care’.

If you are intending to relocate your children to this site you can keep up to date on developments through the school’s Facebook site along with enrolling at Landsdale Primary School who are managing this.

An information session and a chance to meet with me will be held on a date to be advertised in the near future. Please feel free to contact me on 92853702, through Facebook or email Karen.Giacomucci@education.wa.edu.au if you have any questions.

Kind regards
Karen Giacomucci

NAPLAN Online: Platform Trial and Readiness Test: Innovation at Landsdale Primary

Federal, state and territory education ministers have agreed that NAPLAN will move online from 2017, over a two-to-three year period. NAPLAN online will provide better assessment, more precise results and faster turnaround of information.

NAPLAN online will use ‘tailored testing’ which gives students questions better suited to their ability, resulting in better assessment and more precise results. The precision and improved timing of the results will help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs.

The online national assessment platform will be used to trial online assessment in August 2016. Landsdale Primary School is participating in the trial of the online Platform. The trial is simply to test how the platform works, not how the students perform. The students will log into the trial platform and try a few types of test items. We can then assess if the school is technically ready and give feedback on the performance of the platform.

Dear families, we are a group of Year 6 boys who are entering the 2016 PALS Awards.

http://www.daa.wa.gov.au/community-development/pals

We are hoping to build an amazing bush tucker trail. It would be wonderful to receive some donations of large rocks and finger limes, blood roots and coastal pigface (bush tucker plants that are easy to maintain). We would also like some donations of some cracked pea gravel, if you have any spare.

Yours sincerely,
Riley D, Kushal P, Kyran P, Oliver M and Diontay K

P&C President’s Report

Welcome back to Term 3. Last term was a busy, but successful term for the P&C especially in the area of fundraising. We managed to raise quite a bit of money with our fundraising efforts and managed to give the school over $20,000 to put towards school resources. Well done to everyone that was involved in any of our fundraisers. Without your help, the P&C would not be able to function effectively, so thank you for your support.

The next fundraiser which will be held is the DISCO. This is on Friday 5th August.

KINDY TO YEAR 3 SESSION - 4:15pm til 5:30pm.
YEAR 4 TO YEAR 6 SESSION – 6:15pm til 7:30pm.

If you would like to help out for either/both these sessions, please contact Mel Kelleher at melissa.kelleher@bigpond.com .

If you have a first aid certificate your help would also be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Our next meeting is being held on TUESDAY 2nd AUGUST at 7pm in the school staffroom. Everyone is welcome to attend.

All year 6 parents are reminded to return their Expression of Interest and $20 deposit for the year 6 graduation dinner to the canteen as soon as possible. The form was handed out in class to all students last week. We have arranged a fantastic evening with music, food, drink, games and a photo booth for the year 6's to celebrate their graduation. The event will be held at the Woodvale Reception Centre.
