11 August 2016
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
Winter always brings the athletics carnivals and I am looking forward to the events. Mr Puccinelli has done a great job in organising the events so the day will flow smoothly. The oval is still a little scrappy despite the work that has been done through renovations.
Even though the carnival is a fantastic spectacle year 7 to 12 students need to be at their own school as it is a normal school day.
I would like to thank many people in the school community who have contributed to the building of the vision statement, in particular students. Next week the school board will be finalising the school statement that frames the work of the school for the next three years.
This year the school continues to spend a great deal of money in creating an effective computer system so that the one-to-one program works well. The service is improving but I wish that I could control the internet because from time to time it seems to drop out at the most inconvenient times. However, the school has been selected to trial the new NAPLAN on-line testing material. This is because we are seen as an innovative school by the Department of Education.
Regards,
Dr Tony Beswick

Hi everyone, my name is Alia and I am the new Psychologist based in Landsdale Primary School. I’m a fully registered Psychologist and have worked in the mental health field for six years before coming to onPsych. I’ve worked with children and young people with various issues and have supported them in their recovery journey. It gives me satisfaction seeing the little or big changes in their lives which help them reach their full potential. I enjoy making connections with the little people I work with and their families. I’m open to honest feedback and discussions and value parental involvement in therapy. If you have any queries feel free to grab one of onPsych’s info packs or drop in to see me for a chat. I’m at Landsdale on Thursday.

Term 3 is another busy one for the Physical Education program, with our school and Interschool Athletics Carnivals and events. The format for all programs will run similar as it did last year, but with some minor adjustments.
If you are able to assist in any of the following events please let me know at Royce.Puccinelli@education.wa.edu.au. A carnival program will be attached in the next newsletter.
August 15 (Monday): Faction
Jumps, Throws & Distance Events
August 19 (Friday): Interschool Cross-Country @
Penistone Reserve, Greenwood
August 25 (Thursday): Faction Athletics
Carnival
September 13 (Tuesday): Interschool Jumps, Throws
& Distance Events*
September 15 (Thursday): Interschool Athletics
Carnival*
*All interschool events this year are being held at Landsdale Primary School.
Faction, Jumps & Distance Events
Next Monday, August 15, the faction jumps, throws and distance events will take place at Landsdale PS. I have attached an updated list of competitors and a schedule for the day.
Interschool Cross-Country
On Friday, 19th August, we will again participate in a local cross-country event at Penistone Reserve. We will be fielding the top 4 boy and girl students from years 1 and 2 (juniors) who run 600m, 3 and 4 (intermediate) who run 1300m and years 5 and 6 (seniors) who run 2000m. I have attached updated course maps for those students competing in this event.
Parents can independently nominate their children in the annual School Sport WA cross-country interschool event, please visit the link below for more information.

2016 Faction Athletic Carnival Phys Ed Event Details
I have attached event details for the Faction Athletics Carnival on Thursday, 25th August. The back-up for this day is Friday, 26th August, weather pending. I have also attached a map for the day, which may alter slightly.
As per last year, there will only be two divisions per running race this year and ribbons will be given out (1st-4th) after each rotation for each faction. Each rotation consists of 2 or 3 games, and it is planned each of these games will be played 5 times, ensuring maximum participation for students.
As with previous years, I expect the Faction Athletics Carnival will be well supported by students’ family and friends, which is always fantastic to see. This support is invaluable. To assist the teachers with student supervision and for the carnival to run as smoothly as possible, all spectators and supporters are asked to please keep well clear of the Faction bays, and to stay behind the marked areas on the oval, particularly the running track and team game events.
Our Interschool Athletic events are being held at Landsdale PS. The top placed runners will again represent Landsdale with the best times on the Faction Athletics Carnival in their running races to determine this, assuming we have access to timing gates this year. These students usually are selected from Division 1, but occasionally the top placed students in division 2 run a faster time than some lower placed students in the top division.
P&C President’s Report
A big thank you to everyone who gave up their time to help out at the disco on Friday night. I would particularly like to thank Melissa Kelleher and Debbie Glasson for organising such a great event.
Our next fundraising initiative will be the faction carnival sausage sizzle. Our Federal member for Cowan, Anne Aly and her team will be running this event this year so a massive thank you to her team and especially her, for taking the time out of her busy schedule to help us out.
As the end of the year approaches, we need more volunteers for Kiss n’ Drive this year and in particular, for next year. A couple of our regular volunteers will be leaving us as their kids will be attending high school. We need volunteers now so they can be shown how the kiss n' drive works. If we don't get the volunteers, kiss n' drive will close and parents will need to make alternative arrangements picking up their children. If the Kiss n' drive does have to close, the City of Wanneroo Rangers will also be notified and will come out to issue fines to those parking illegally.
It is imperative that we get new volunteers. It takes approximately 20 mins in the afternoon to do this so please consider helping out so the kiss n' drive remains open. A note will be sent home asking for volunteers in the coming weeks so please keep your eye out for it.
Our next meeting is being held on Tuesday 30th August at 7pm in the school staff room. Please feel free to come along.
