22 September 2016
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
As a result of a misunderstanding at school level, we have mistakenly advertised Monday 10th October as a School Development Day where students do not attend. The school Development Day next term is Friday 28th October and NOT Monday 10th October.
Term 4 student attendance begins on Monday 10th October. If our error has caused any inconvenience to any of our families, please accept our sincere apologies. If you have any concerns please contact me.
Well done to all our students and staff who attended the Interschool Athletics Carnival on Tuesday 13th and Thursday 15th September. In an amazingly tight finish Landsdale came equal first in the carnival, congratulations to the whole team! The students this year represented our school in an excellent manner, demonstrating great sportsmanship and giving all events their best efforts. Thank you to all the staff, especially Mr Puccinelli who prepared the students so well for the event.
Our Year 6 students attended their first Transition Day at Ashdale Secondary College and all of the students I spoke to found it a worthwhile experience and feel more comfortable about the move to the college next year.
Week one next term the Year 6 students will have the adventure of going on camp at Point Peron Camp School. It is a special event that students remember as the highlight of their time at Landsdale. I know they appreciate the time and effort their teachers put in to organising this event. We are very fortunate to have teachers who are willing to give up their personal time to ensure this special event is available to the students.
We hope you all have a safe and enjoyable holiday. Students finish school on Friday 23rd September and return on Monday 10th October.
Regards,
Leanne White

Students Not Returning to Landsdale in 2017
Please let us know if your children currently in
Pre-Primary to Year 5 will no longer be attending Landsdale Primary School
next year because you are moving or changing schools. We are doing our best
to get well organised for a smooth start to 2017 but we rely on your help
in this important area. All schools are funded according to our enrolments
so it is very important that we plan on accurate enrolment numbers.
Families who know they will not be returning to Landsdale Primary School in
2017 are asked to click on the attached link or phone the school.

'Child's Play' Music Incursion
On the 7th and 8th of September the Kindy students had an incursion from 'Child's Play Music'. Mr Duncan brought in lots of home made instruments for the children to play. They all had so much fun learning how to play the 'thong-a-phone', beat on the drums and cymbals and how to blow air into the balloon basoon. It was a very noisy morning.

The Ashdale Cluster Parent Funded Apple 1-1 Laptop Program
As part of an Ashdale Cluster initiative Landsdale Primary School implemented the Parent Funded Apple One to One program in 2011 and the program is now in the 6th year and runs from Years 4-6. As an Independent Public School the partnership with parents enables us to provide our students with the best possible creative tools to achieve our vision of being engaged in innovative and rich learning tasks to prepare them for the future. We are now beginning the journey preparing our Year 3 students and their parents to join the program for 2017.
The program involves families being given the opportunity to purchase or lease an Apple laptop for their child. In partnership with Winthrop Australia, we have negotiated an offer that we believe is very advantageous to parents in terms of price, warranty and onsite technical servicing if purchased through Winthrop
http://www.landsdaleps.wa.edu.au/
In keeping with Landsdale's vision of embedding technology, the One to One program enables students to learn the important skills that are essential to maximise their potential in a 21st Century classroom and workplace. They have, at point of need, access to information, applications and global experiences that enable deeper learning at home and at school.
The Apple laptops are particularly well suited to the education environment because they are loaded with software and applications that are great for getting students to extend their thinking and demonstrate their learning. They allow teachers to deliver engaging lessons with more students fully engaged in each learning opportunity. The laptops have excellent options for security and parental control over what their child is accessing and when.
With NAPLAN now being administered online, it is even more important for our students to develop the skills and familiarity with their laptop to prepare them well for this change. In the recent trial undertaken by all our Year 3 and 5 students it was pleasing to note how comfortable the Year 5 students in particular were in taking the tests online. After 2 years of the 1-1 laptop program their skills are at the requisite high level.
Our cluster Parent Information Session will be held at Ashdale Secondary College on Tuesday 18th October at 6.00pm.

Borrowing Closed
Library book borrowing has now closed for Term 3. Please return your library books immediately. Students may arrange holiday loans with Mrs Murray. If your child has lost their library book, please let Mrs Murray or the class teacher know so an invoice can be sent for the replacement cost. Have a wonderful holiday break and we look forward to seeing everyone back in the Library next term.

P&C President's Report
As term 3 comes to an end, I would like to thank everyone who has volunteered for any fundraising initiatives that have occurred this term. We thank you for all your help. This Friday is our free dress day so students are welcome to come dressed in their favourite 'TEAM' outfit. Please bring a chocolate block or a cash donation as payment. These donations will be used for one of the games at our upcoming fete. Term 4 sees two of our biggest fundraisers for the year. The book fair which will be run from the 7th – 11th November and the fete which is being held on 25th November. If anyone is available to donate any time for these, it would be greatly appreciated.
Kiss N' Drive seems to be going well since the new signs have been erected. Thank you to everyone who follows the directions of the traffic wardens when using this service. There are still a few parents who are dropping their kids off at the service entry on Warradale Terrace. This area is unsafe to pick up/drop your kids off due to large amounts of traffic at peak times. Please use the Kiss N' Drive to ensure the safety of your children and others children. Our traffic wardens put a lot of unpaid time and effort into ensuring the safety of students so please, listen to what they tell you.
Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday 25th October in the school staffroom. Please feel free to come and join us.

Thank you to everyone who have utilised the online ordering system for the canteen over the past Term.
