From the Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
In August, a healthy 34.6% of parents responded to a survey regarding what they perceived of the school. Highlights that were discussed by the school board include:
- 87% were satisfied with the overall standard of education achieved at the school,
- 91% would recommend this school to others,
- 95% believed that teachers have high expectations for their child,
- 92% responded that teachers are fair, and
- 93% were comfortable in talking to their child’s teacher about their concerns.
The lowest ratings were:
- 81% perceived that the school took their opinions seriously (12% neither agreed or disagreed),
- 87% indicated that their child’s learning needs are being met (6% neither agreed or disagreed), and
- 88% thought the school works with them to support their child (6% neither agreed or disagreed).
Despite the relatively high scores, we are concerned that there were between 6-12% of parents could not form an opinion. We aim to improve the clarity of the messages given to parents and the efficacy of how we respond to parent responses.
The school is considering moving to a different timetable where there is a 2 hour block of time in between recess and lunch. This moves lunch to just after 1:00pm and decreases the two hour block after lunch to one hour. Students in other schools have reported that they like the change as they know that there is only one hour to go from lunch to home time! We note that students use ‘crunch and sip’ throughout the day, so they will not go hungry and they are more ready for their lunch (less lunch in the bin). The reason for this change is to focus the amount of time the school spends on literacy and mathematics. Thank you to the parents who have given the school feedback on this proposal. If you have an opinion please email landsdale.ps@education.wa.edu.au .
Regards
Dr Tony Beswick

Students Not Returning to Landsdale in 2017
Please let us know if your children currently in Pre-Primary to Year 5 will no longer be attending Landsdale Primary School next year because you are moving or changing schools. We are doing our best to get well organised for a smooth start to 2017 but we rely on your help in this important area. All schools are funded according to our enrolments so it is very important that we plan on accurate enrolment numbers. Families who know they will not be returning to Landsdale Primary School in 2017 are asked to click on the attached link or phone the school.
We still have Kindergarten places available for 2017. Please see the front office if a place is required. Jennifer.Shepherd@education.wa.edu.au

The 2017 Contributions and Charges schedule was sent home with students this week. This schedule outlines the maximum expenditure that may be incurred during the year, if your child participates in everything available to their year level.

Bring Home a Big Brother or Sister and Bring French Culture to Life!
Why not volunteer to host an international student from France next year? We have a small group of delightful French students coming to Australia for 10 weeks to immerse in local Australian culture, experience our High schools, sports, environment and lifestyle. All the French students are around 15 years old, speak excellent English, have their own spending money, cover all school expenses ,and we arrange all aspects of their program. They are looking forward to joining an Australian family for a short term. It’s fun and interesting to help these young people achieve their Australian dream. If you’d like know more, please email your interest to Rob at Inter Cultural Management on rl@scce.com.au.
