1 December 2016

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Families,

What a brilliant school fete on Friday. Great community feel to the school. Thanks for the families that came on the day. The fantastic organisers were Amanda Ferguson, Debbie Glasson, Melissa Kelleher and Natalie Herridge.

I would like to thank Debbie Glasson, Petra Vulich, Natalie Herridge, Caitlin Sabatino and Mel Knight who have helped with the Kiss and Drive in 2016. Melissa George also helped with another aspect of parking. These parents have volunteered their time and effort in ensuring that this excellent service runs smoothly. The Deputy Principals and Principal help with behaviour management of the students.

Next year, Kiss and Drive will need some parent volunteers because Debbie Glasson’s child moves onto secondary school and the school staff cannot run the service by themselves. If you would like to help for at least one day please call Amanda Ferguson on 0402 179 511. If you have children to look after, you can leave them at the front office and the staff will look after them while you do the Kiss and Drive for 20 minutes.

Regards,

Dr Tony Beswick
Principal

Students Not Returning to Landsdale in 2017

Please let us know if your children currently in Pre-Primary to Year 5 will no longer be attending Landsdale Primary School next year because you are moving or changing schools. We are doing our best to get well organised for a smooth start to 2017 but we rely on your help in this important area. All schools are funded according to our enrolments so it is very important that we plan on accurate enrolment numbers. Families who know they will not be returning to Landsdale Primary School in 2017 are asked to click on the attached link or phone the school.

We still have Kindergarten places available for 2017. Please see the front office if a place is required. Jennifer.Shepherd@education.wa.edu.au

1-1 Laptop Program – Latest Update

The Parent Funded Apple 1-1 Laptop program preparations are underway. Thank you to the parents of Year 3 and new parents attended either the Parent information meeting at Ashdale Secondary College in week 2 at Landsdale Primary School earlier this week.

There has been a change in the device offered on the portal, the Macbook Air 11” laptop has been discontinued and the Macbook Air 13” is now the device offered for the 1-1 Program. The portal to purchase the Macbook Air 13” laptop through Winthrop Australia is now open and you can order at any time through this portal. Our school website has the link to the ordering portal:

http://www.landsdaleps.wa.edu.au

While we did love the Macbook Air 11”, the 13” is every bit as good if not better as it is a later model and slightly larger screen. It is still very light and many of our students have chosen this size over the 11” previously and have found it just as portable.

Some Apple resellers may have remaining stock of the MacAir 11” or 13”, and be offering special deals due to it being discontinued, it is worthwhile always to “shop” around for the best deal for you. It does not matter to the school where you purchase the laptop, our partnership with Winthrop is to ensure the best price for the newest device and to have the best service option for parents through them.

If you have questions regarding the purchase through the portal or other vendors, please contact the school for clarification.

Our next Steering Committee for the 1:1 Program will be held in the staff room at 4pm on Tuesday 6th December. All interested parents are welcome.

On the Ball …. With Mr P

Please encourage children to wear appropriate footwear and a hat when attending Physical Education lessons. A water bottle at the moment would be good as the weather is warming up and children can have a drink at any time during the lesson from their water bottle if it’s nearby.

Hopman Cup Trophy Tour

On Thursday, 17th November, Olwen Dawson from Tennis West came to visit us and display the Hopman Cup trophy, which is being played for in early January at Perth Arena. All students will receive a drawing and colouring competition for a chance to win a ‘platinum experience’ of the Hopman Cup, including tossing the coin, tickets to the event and a backstage tour! Get colouring guys!

Interschool Handball

Congratulations to all the students that competed in this year’s handball competition at North Woodvale Primary School on Friday, 18th November. The student’s tried their very best and came up against some very competitive teams, particularly North Woodvale and Madeley. Well done to our girls A team who won their respective division.

The day before the competition, the students tried their skills against the staff and it was very interesting to say the least! I think Mr Hayward won MVP and Mrs Clarke won the best new player award. The teachers won the game of course…thanks to all that patronised the game!

Term 4 Cluster Friendly

Tomorrow, 2nd December, we have our ‘Cluster Friendly’ involving Ashdale and Madeley primary schools where students have a chance to meet some of their new classmates for 2017. The students play with students from the other cluster schools in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The event is held at Kingsway Sporting Complex from 12.45pm.

Salvation Army Appeal

We are currently doing our annual Christmas collection for the Salvation Army. Donations of new toys or non-perishable foods are being collected in the front foyer of the school.

Library News

Borrowing Closes for 2017

Student, parent and staff library book borrowing closes this FRIDAY 2nd DECEMBER. All library books are due back by this date. Please assist us by checking that your child has returned his/her library book(s). If your child has lost a library book, please arrange to pay for it at the Front Office.

During the last two weeks of school, there will be no loans processed in the Library. During this time, the Library staff will be processing returns, shelving and taking stock of all library resources. We will also be accessioning new reading books, maths equipment and teacher resource materials, as well as returning and accounting for the school’s macbooks and iPads. This is a very busy time of the year, so we thank you for your co-operation in returning your child’s library books by the due date.

Scholastic Book Club

The final issue (Issue 8) of Book Club has now been processed. We expect that ordered items will arrive back at school during week 9. Orders will be distributed to classrooms as soon as they arrive at school.

Reading Books To Be Covered

We have nine boxes of new home reading books that need to be covered and ready to start the new school year. If you can assist with covering some of these resources over the summer break, please let Mrs Murray or Mrs Connolly know or phone us on 9302 4100. All covering materials will be supplied by us.

Sausage Sizzle and Sushi Lunch - Wednesday 14th December

Every student should have received a GREEN lunch order form for the Sausage Sizzle and Sushi lunch on the last Wednesday of this term. Please make sure that these forms are returned by Friday 9th December so that we can order enough sausages and buns for everyone’s lunch. We will not be selling any other food on this day. This Lunch Order will be available to be ordered ONLINE from Wednesday 30th November.

NOTE: the Year 6 students did not receive a form for this Lunch Special because they will be having a Morning Tea after the Graduation Ceremony. However if you would like them to have a Sausage Sizzle for lunch after the Graduation Ceremony please come to the canteen to pick up a GREEN order form and return it by Friday 9th December.

End of Term Reduced Lunch Menu - Thursday 15th December

The Canteen will be OPEN but will be offering a limited number of Menu Items on the last day of this term. This is so that we can reduce our canteen stock. Please make sure that this Reduced Lunch Order Form is returned to the canteen by Monday 12th December with the correct money. This Lunch Order will be available to be ordered ONLINE from Thursday 1st December.

P&C President’s News

Thank you to everyone who has contributed their time and effort throughout the year, especially for the fete we held this year. It was a great success.

School Banking at Landsdale Primary School!

As Term 4 is coming to an end, rewards stock is slowly diminishing and stock for some current reward items are very low or out of stock. At the moment, we do have the majority of reward items available or on order, however there is a limited supply so get in quick to ensure you don’t miss out.

As has been the case for most of this year, we are still looking for anyone who can spare 1 hour on a Thursday morning from 8 – 9am to help out, especially for next year. If you have the time, we would greatly appreciate any help you are willing to offer. Please contact Amanda Ferguson at anferguson1977@gmail.com

Why not volunteer to host an international student from France next year? We have a small group of delightful French students coming to Australia for 10 weeks to immerse in local Australian culture, experience our High schools, sports, environment and lifestyle.
