24 August 2017
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
What a fantastic performance by our students at the ‘One Big Voice’ last Friday night. I would like to extend a big thank you to Ms Emma Rogerson (our brilliant music teacher), Mrs Rachel Paplinski, Mrs Tracey Higgins and Mr Ruscoe for supervision on the night. Thanks to parents, your children were well behaved.
We have just received the 2017 NAPLAN results. We are pleased that our business plan target of Year 3 students being equal to or above state mean has been achieved. Indeed, eight of the ten numeracy and literacy areas were above state averages this year.
Trentham Road Kindergarten will be closing its doors at the end of this year. We are excited by the closure because all our children will be located at the main school.
We have noticed that there are some students using play equipment before school. While we have no issue with children playing on equipment with close parent supervision, unsupervised children must move to the under croft near LA 10 for safety.
Also, there is no direct teacher supervision available before 8:15am at school.

Students Not Returning to Landsdale in 2018
Please let us know if your children currently in Kindy to Year 5 will no longer be attending Landsdale Primary School next year due to moving house or changing schools. All schools are funded according to our enrolments so it is very important that we plan on accurate student numbers. Families who know they will not be returning to Landsdale Primary School in 2018 are asked to click on the attached link or phone the school.

2018 Kindergarten Applications
If you still haven’t put your Kindergarten application in for next year, please see the ladies in the front office urgently as we are nearing full capacity.
2018 1-1 Laptop Program
We annually evaluate our program to ensure our students have the best opportunities to acquire essential skills in digital technologies for their future. The parent funded 1-1 program is vital to this goal and we recognise and value your commitment to your children’s education.
This year we have examined which device to base our program on, the iPad or the Macbook Air. We investigated thoroughly and found the MacBook Air to be the best device for our students, the school board has endorsed our decision. The Macbook remains our device of choice and will be supported fully by the school. We do, however, recognise that the financial commitment for parents is significant and so are investigating possibilities for more flexible payments or leasing options. We have also decided to include the option of the iPad however decisions on which model and how they will be managed are in the process of being worked out.
We have had our first parent information session, which included a discussion forum to help us work out the details for the 2018 program. A summary of the feedback we received from parents during this forum and the survey below will be in the next newsletter.
To provide your feedback on the program for 2018 please complete the form below:

Music Notes …. with Miss Rogerson
A huge congratulations to the Landsdale Primary School Choir who performed at Perth Arena on 18th August. The students participated in the One Big Voice program; a non-competitive massed choir involving 4000 students from 80 schools across WA. The students left Landsdale at the end of school on Friday, and arrived in Perth for their huge performance.
Throughout the excursion, the students' behaviour was impeccable, and their singing was truly tear jerking for both myself and the audience. Thank you students for your hard work leading up to, and during this performance.
This was a fantastic event, and I hope to take the choir back to the Arena for the 2018 One Big Voice performance.
Woolworths Earn and Learn Stickers
We are collecting Woolworths Earn and Learn stickers again this year. If you shop at Woolworths and collect stickers, please drop them in at the office.
Parent Connect Group – 4th September
The Landsdale parent connect group is for parents or carers of children with special needs, learning difficulties or challenging behaviour who would like to engage in a supportive network. The group meets twice per term in the school staffroom.
This is an opportunity to meet and network with people in a similar situation and provides an opportunity to talk with like-minded people who may be able to offer support, suggestions and share ideas.
Our next catch up is on Monday 4th September at 2.15pm in the staffroom.

It was delightful to see so many parents and students in the Library on our school Open Night. Despite the wild weather, we had an excellent turnout. Thanks to the Choir for adding a warm ambience with their heart-warming songs. Students and their parents enjoyed road-testing the new audiobooks, borrowing library books and engaging in the LOTE activities with Mrs Scott.

WHEELERS CONGRATULATES LANDSDALE LIBRARY!
We were delighted to receive an email from Wheelers Books, the company that administers our eBook and Audiobook platform. Here is an excerpt from that communication:
“Landsdale Primary became an ePlatform customer in February 2017. In just over six months, they have amassed more than 2,500 total eBook loans! This is especially awesome because Landsdale is a primary school. We regularly see high schools performing this way!
Thank you so much to all our parents who have supported the purchase of Wheelers ePlatform and promoted the use of eBooks and Audiobooks with their children at home.
Helping Hands Update
Congratulations everyone! Our very first Helping Hands day raised $841.85 thanks to all of your donations and commitment. We appreciate the support of the student councillors in helping organise this event and the wonderful support of Belinda von Berhgeim who coordinated the collection and banking of the money.
The money was given to No Limits Perth and they have greatly appreciated the funds to help families in need.
Our next Helping Hands Free Dress Day is Friday 15th September, 2017 (Week 9) – please email Tania Burke (tania.burke@education.wa.edu.au) if you would like to nominate an organisation to fundraise for (we will also be considering the previously nominated organisations).

Global Education - Community Survey
LA27 are working on Global Education projects that use literacy and numeracy skills to investigate and solve real world problems. Our group's goal is to investigate the amount of single-use plastic bags used for grocery shopping in our local community. We want to replace single use plastic bags with recycled or re-purposed bags when people do their grocery shopping.
To help us, please have one member of your family complete the attached survey as soon as possible. Only complete one for each family. Your name is not required and all information is only looked at as a total, and is treated confidentially. Information is used only for our project.

Chaplain’s Chat
The Value I’m looking at this week is - “I make Good choices.”
Integrity would be something that would shine through someone who makes good choices. “Integrity is standing up for what you believe is right, living by your highest values.”
People will know we have the virtue of integrity when our words match our actions. When we are honest and mean what we say to ourselves and others. We would make choices that coincide with the words we speak.
A person of integrity will choose to fill their life and mind with things that help them to live a good, happy, healthy, life.
Chat soon.
