7 September 2017
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
The book week parade was absolutely wonderful. Obviously, there were many parents who worked hard helping their children present with exciting costumes. We even had a record number of staff donning their favourite character’s clothes, and in some cases, their personality.
I am proud to announce that the Year 3 NAPLAN results for numeracy, spelling, grammar and writing were above the national average. The Year 5 NAPLAN results for numeracy and spelling were also above national average. The grammar results were equal to the national average.
Our results being above the national averages is exciting because those averages are consistently above state averages, as WA is a very large state with pockets of communities that have very low scores.

1-1 Laptop Program 2018
Thank you to the parents who attended our first parent information and discussion forum. We discussed;
- why the 1-1 Program is important for our students learning to be future focused.
- the benefits of having their own Macbooks to use every day and anywhere.
- the advantages of a Macbook over an iPad in our school and education department environment.
- how the Macbooks are being used in class.
- our findings from our NAPLAN online trials in 2016 and 2017.
- Information on the vendor selection and specifics about the program.
If you wish to find out more about any of these points, please attend our next parent information and discussion forum on Wednesday 20th September 4.30pm-5.30pm. Information can also be found on our website, 1-1 program.

Students Not Returning to Landsdale in 2018
Please let us know if your children currently in Kindy to Year 5 will no longer be attending Landsdale Primary School next year due to moving house or changing schools. All schools are funded according to our enrolments so it is very important that we plan on accurate student numbers. Families who know they will not be returning to Landsdale Primary School in 2018 are asked to click on the attached link or phone the school.

Faction Athletics Carnival
Congratulations to all the students who participated in the Faction Athletics Carnival last Thursday.
All students tried very hard with the events they participated in and should be very proud of their efforts. Thanks very much to all staff and parents for supporting the children throughout the day – it was great to see.
Many thanks to everybody who assisted on the day and leading up to the event. Thanks to the staff for their work in placing students in events. The day could not go ahead without all the assistance from volunteers and last minute helpers, including Kathy Price, Melissa and Chris George, Sarah Knight, Ellie Afric, the canteen staff and all their hard work, the P&C and Storage King Landsdale for providing some terrific beverages and food. Thanks also to Mrs Della Gatta and Mrs Woods for doing a great job as our recorders. Thanks to Mr Brown for his continuing assistance during the term and his help judging along with all the other staff and Ashdale Secondary students.
Well done to Cassia for being deserved winners of the sportsmanship award. This faction has deserved to win the award this year, not just on Faction Carnival Day but throughout training and PE lessons. Thanks to my ‘sportsmanship spies’ throughout the day for taking careful notice of terrific sportsmanship. In saying that though, all factions should be very proud of their behaviour and sportsmanship in this year’s sports carnival.
Well done Hovea for winning the trophy again with Grevillea running a very close second. It was a sea of blue, you deserved your victory.

BOOK WEEK DRESS UP DAY
What an exciting, colourful day we had on Friday 1st September! Thank you to all our students and staff who dressed up for Book Week. Many thanks to our wonderful parents who went to so much effort to help their children dress up and enjoy the day. There was a fabulous range of costumes and books on show at our morning parades. Thank you to Mrs Connelly, Mrs Carville and Miss Rogerson for their assistance on the day.
Global Education - Community Survey
LA27 are working on Global Education projects that use literacy and numeracy skills to investigate and solve real world problems. Our group's goal is to investigate the amount of single-use plastic bags used for grocery shopping in our local community. We want to replace single use plastic bags with recycled or re-purposed bags when people do their grocery shopping.
To help us, please have one member of your family complete the attached survey as soon as possible. Only complete one for each family. Your name is not required and all information is only looked at as a total, and is treated confidentially. Information is used only for our project.

I-Value “I AM A GLOBAL CITIZEN”
Many students have been looking at ways to look after Australia.
One of the easiest and BEST ways we can do this is thinking about the litter around us - this pollutes our world here and now, and it pollutes out GLOBAL world.
Global citizens will throw their rubbish away, they will pick up any rubbish they see and they will remind a friend who has rubbish in their hands, to throw it in the bin.
This world is the only world we have, let’s do our best to look after it the best we can.

P&C President’s Report
2017 Faction Carnival
A huge thank you to our volunteers who helped us with this year’s sausage sizzle. From our onion & bun cutters, to the cash chicks and serving queens - we couldn’t have done it without you.
Storage King kindly donated the Store Managers’ time from Landsdale & Midland stores to man the barbeque for the day. We sold over an amazing 320 sausages and drinks to make a profit of over $650 for the P&C. Thanks to everyone who grabbed a sizzle on the day!
Our canteen staff were also humming along contributing over 353 lunches for the kids on carnival day! A normal lunch day usually sees them delivering about 130 lunches to classrooms, this meant over double were handed out by our canteen staff, Alison & Jo, and the volunteers for the day - thanks so much for helping during the day to ensure lunches were all delivered on time.
The Coffee Lady was kind enough to give not only a free coffee during the day to our teachers but also donated 50c per cup sold which raised $140 on its own!
It was a fabulous day enjoyed by everyone.
Father’s Day Raffle 2017 – Main School
Thank you to everyone who purchased raffle tickets this year at the school carnival. You helped us raise over $400 for the raffle towards the P&C and the schools wish list items!
A huge mention of thanks must go to Caitlin Sabatino for organising this year’s raffle prizes. In contacting businesses local and afar she gathered over $600 worth or vouchers and prizes for this year’s raffle! From Stubby holders & Magazines to the 1st prize Family 4 pass to Mandurah Dolphin Scenic Tour!
Congratulations to our 4 winners!
Father’s Day Kindy Raffle 2017
A huge mention of thanks must go to Kim Fuller & Elise Koch for organising this year’s raffle. Thank you for donating your time to co-ordinating this for the P&C it was much appreciated!
Fantastic donations gave way to 15 raffle prizes, 3 per classroom. To have 15 kindy dads spoilt for Father’s Day is fabulous! It made way for over $230.00 to be raised from the raffle which goes back to the P&C wishlist.
Thanks you to everyone who donated items and purchased raffle tickets on the day and congratulations to the winners!

Roadwise
We are super fortunate to have 5 of our school parents volunteer once a week each to keep our Kiss & Drive facility running smoothly each day with the help of a rostered Deputy.
These fantastic ladies deserve our respect and to be listened to as they have yours and the responsibility of each school child using kiss & drive to make that safe trip home.
Please if they indicate to you that you may be using the facility incorrectly or have inadvertently parked in a no stopping/parking zone, they are doing it for yours and the benefit of others and in most cases will save you from being seen by the ranger. Please refrain from giving them your opinion of the law and our Kiss & Drive rules as they are only helping parents to adhere to them.
We do have the luxury of asking the rangers to come out on occasion to help us with any road issues we may have, let’s make sure we don’t need to take this course of action and respect those who are helping to make Kiss & Drive and our roads safe for our school kids.
Reminder – the School Dentist carpark is only for Dental staff & patient parking. It is not for general drop off/pickup of children.
If you do have anything you would like to raise at any time please do contact me on 0403 326 828.
Thanks,
Nat Herridge
Roadwise Co-ordinator.
