21 September 2017

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Families,

Teachers are now constructing class lists for 2018. We are seeking your advice in terms of any information that could assist us. This information should concern clashes your child has with others, bullying or family issues. Please email Tania.Burke@education.wa.edu.au or send a letter marked ‘Private and Confidential’ to Tania by Thursday 26th October, 2017.

Congratulations to all our students who competed in the interschool athletics carnival last week, they represented our school in an excellent manner. A special mention to the Year Six girls who won all their division races, super effort! Thank you to all the staff who prepared the students so well for the events. All the extra time spent practising paid off, we really put the pressure on the lead school through our success in the team games. We came second to Ashdale Primary by only 19 points, a great day overall.

Week Two next term the Year 6 students will have the adventure of going on camp at Point Peron Camp School. It is a special event that students remember as the highlight of their time at Landsdale. I know they appreciate the time and effort their teachers put in to organising this event. We are very fortunate to have teachers who are willing to give up their personal time to ensure this special event is available to the students.

We hope you all have a safe and enjoyable holiday. Students finish school on Friday 22nd September and return on Monday 9th October. Our School Development Day for Term Four, where students do not attend is in Week Three, Friday 27th October.

Regards,

Leanne White
Acting Principal

Macbook 1-1 Program

Thank you to the parents who attended our second parent information and discussion forum. The parents were very positive towards our choice of Macbook as the preferred device. We discussed;

  • why the 1-1 Program is important for our students learning to be future focused.
  • the benefits of having their own Macbooks to use every day and anywhere.
  • the advantages of a Macbook over an iPad in our school and education department environment.
  • how the Macbooks are being used in class.
  • our findings from our NAPLAN online trials in 2016 and 2017.
  • information on the vendor selection and specifics about the program.

If you wish to find out more about any of these points, information can also be found on our website, 1-1 program or contact the school.

In Term 4 we will have another parent information session for the cluster initiative which will highlight the vendor’s portal and details for the purchasing of the device you choose. We also will be opening the classes for parents to see the program in action. Details of both of these events will be provided early Term 4.

To provide us with feedback on your thoughts on the program for 2018 please complete the form below:

P&C President’s Report

It’s been a fabulous year and we are so happy to be able to round out term 3 with having all the items on the school’s “Wish List” approved at our last meeting. Over $20,000 has been given back to the school community during the year for new and upgraded materials and resources, including a brand new 3D printer for the STEM arm of the school. The kids will certainly get a kick out of seeing this in action!

We also approved an amazing $5,500 for Mr P to purchase new shirts for the kids to wear at interschool events and $700 for resources for the Kindy Annexe. Keep an eye out in Term 4 for the P&C wrap up for all of the items that your fundraising has contributed to during the year.

To round out the P&C events for 2017 we have the annual whole school Disco and the Book Fair coming up. Both of course need volunteer help. Text Nat on 0403 326 828 if you can help with the Disco and email Amanda on anferguson1977@gmail.com for the Book Fair. Both events take many behind-the-scenes hours to organise and during the event and we’d love to see familiar and new faces to give us a hand.

Enjoy the school holidays and see you back for an awesome term 4!

Looking for Host Families

Bring Home A Big Brother or Sister and Bring French, Italian or Spanish Culture to Life!

Why not volunteer to host an international student from France, Italy or Spain next year? We have a small group of delightful students coming to Australia for 11 weeks to immerse in local Australian culture, experience our High schools, sports, environment and lifestyle. All these international students are around 15 or 16 years old, speak excellent English, have their own spending money, cover all school expenses, and we arrange all aspects of their program. They are looking forward to joining an Australian family for a short term cultural immersion stay. It’s fun and interesting to help these young people achieve their Australian dream. If you would like to know more, please email your interest to ICM on info@icm-education.com.au or call Georgie or Anja on 1800 500 501, or visit our website:
