22 February 2018

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Families,

By now, you would have received a nomination form for membership of the school board. The school board is the premier decision making body in the school and, as such, has played a significant role. Please consider nominating as you will be contributing to the success of Landsdale Primary School. Nominations close Friday 23rd February, 2018.

Thanks to all the parents and families who are using the Kiss and Drive well. There is a flow of cars as you are all patient and circle around if your child is not ready to be picked up.

Teachers have been working on plans that help students who need extension and those who are struggling. We also run programs like Letters and Sounds that help improve literacy. Extension programs that target robotics and coding will also feature this year.

Cyber-safety seminars will be offered later this year. Stay tuned.

Regards,

Dr Tony Beswick
Principal

School Development Day – Students Do Not Attend

Thursday 13th December, 2018

Last Day of Term 4

Welcome to the 1-1 Program!

The Year 4 students are really excited to be using their laptops and are learning about using them appropriately and safely. While they are learning the basics it is a great time for parents to learn how to manage the laptops and help students to make good choices. We are offering a parent workshop Wednesday 7th March. Parents of all Year 4-6 students are welcome, please fill out the expression of interest via this link:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MacWshop

Our website also has information and Frequently Asked Question’s to assist you.

If your child is bringing in an iPad, a list of essential Apps and some information regarding their use at school will be sent home soon. Please be aware that the minimum model of iPad is the iPad Air 2; however, our strong recommendation is the latest iPad which can be purchased from the Winthrop Portal.

Faction Captain and Vice-Captain Voting

Congratulations to all the students that nominated to be a faction captain and vice-captain on Tuesday. Our elected nominees will be announced soon.

Interschool Tennis Competitions

At this stage there will be three tennis competitions, held at the State Tennis Centre. Some other venues may be used if required. The first two are the Academy Plate championships geared towards the older students. There is a girls and boys event, played separately on 22nd and 23rd March respectively. Players will need a sound knowledge of the game and be able to score independently, as well as serve and rally the ball consistently over a full-size tennis court.

Try-outs and training for these will generally take place during senior sport time which is Fridays at 2pm.

The other event is the Hot Shots tennis Gala Day, exclusively for year 3 and 4 students. This event is being held on Thursday, 29th March (the day before Good Friday) and we are looking for enthusiastic players that can rally a ball over a modified ‘red ball tennis court’.

Wednesday Tennis Coaching

Instyle Tennis are offering Term 1 Hot-Shots Tennis lessons at Landsdale Primary! Held each Wednesday 7.45-8.30am, starting week 2 of the term. Great fun and all ages/ levels welcome! Students have continued training for the T20 Blast at Kingsway Sporting Complex for year 5 and 6 students. The tournament is confirmed for Friday, 9th March and Mr Brown will be travelling with the selected students. Most try-outs and training for this will be on Wednesday lunchtimes (with Mr P) and Thursday and/or Friday lunchtimes with Mr P or Mr Brown.

Faction Shirts

As in previous years, students are encouraged to wear their faction t-shirt on Phys Ed days and/or if they are involved in middle or senior sport activities. Our EdConnect Australia Volunteers are settling in around our school with students and classroom support. Our volunteers are members of our community offering their time to our school, we are so thankful to have them. If you would like to know more, there are flyers in the reception area or via their website below. This program is great for those of any age looking to contribute an hour or more to their community. Our EdConnect volunteers range from uni students to retirees and they spend anything from 1-4 hours at our school.

Wheelers eBooks and Audiobooks

All Landsdale Primary students can access our wonderful Digital Library 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Every child has a User Name and Password which allows them to browse, borrow and reserve eBooks and audiobooks on the Digital Library. Find our Digital Library at:

https://landsdaleps.wheelers.co/

You can also download the Wheelers eBook platform from the App Store.
Your child’s User Name follows the format: Firstname.Lastname eg: Sharon.Murray
Their Password is a generic one: Library1 (same for all students).
If you need assistance to access our Landsdale Digital Library, please see Mrs Murray in the Library.

NEW RELEASES and BOOK COVERING

The Library is awash with new books! We have already purchased over $3,000 worth of new picture books, novels, graphic novels and non-fiction for our print collection, along with $2,000 worth of new titles for our Digital Library (eBooks & audiobooks). These items are now being accessioned, catalogued, labelled and covered. They will be available for borrowing next week (Week 5). If you can assist with book covering, (either at home or in the Library), please see Mrs Murray in the Library or send an email to:

Sharon.Murray@education.wa.edu.au

We provide all materials for covering and would be grateful for even the smallest contribution of your time.

Kiss n’ Drive and Parking

As with the majority of schools, traffic is usually pretty bad at the beginning of the year around the school.

If you are dropping off or picking up your child, please ensure you use our Kiss n’ Drive area at the front of the school. By cars filing through in turn using this (in the correct manner), it ensures the safety of all students and pedestrians.

If you plan on parking and going into the school, please only use the bays provided. This does not include the bays at the front of the school for Kiss n’ Drive.

Do not park in or across other people’s driveways or property. This is illegal and you will be fined if caught. The Council are cracking down on illegal parking around schools. If you do have permission to park in someone else’s driveway, your car must be parked after their letterbox as property before the letterbox is council property and again, this will incur a fine.

Please use common sense and obey the law.

School Banking at Landsdale Primary School!

School banking is on every Thursday in the wet area where LA11 and LA12 are located from 8am to 9am.

There are some great new rewards and competitions this year.

I will be visiting kindy through to year 1 classes in the coming weeks with start up information for the students to bring home. If you aren't already banking you will be able to find out all about it!

Look forward to seeing you Thursdays!
