5 April 2018
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
Last week, the new board kicked off on their first meeting of the year. The members looked at the results of a survey of how students perceived the school. Below are some highlights.
Strongly agreed or agree |
|
My teachers expect me to do my best |
97% |
My teachers motivate me to learn |
83% |
My teachers provide me with useful feedback about my school |
89% |
My teachers are good teachers |
99% |
My teachers care about me |
82% |
The surprising result was that 29% of students had no opinion about the management of student behaviour.
Overall, these good results seem to indicate the effects of the increase use of feedback to and from students.
Landsdale students also seem to have a good opinion about teachers and believe they care about them.
The school is currently redefining behaviour structures and processes, within the philosophy of positive education, to make them clearer.
Tomorrow, please come to school wearing your Colour Fun Run clothes.
Regards,
Dr Tony Beswick

Landsdale Primary School would like to invite family and friends to attend our ANZAC morning service on Thursday 12th April at 9.00am in the courtyard under the flag pole. The Landsdale Primary School choir will be singing. We look forward to seeing you all there.
We are taking donations of flowers for the wreaths on Wednesday morning 11th April, before school.
Buckets will be outside the administration office. Thank you.
2019 Application for Kindergarten Enrolment
Kindergarten Enrolments are now open for children born between 1 July 2014 and 30 June 2015. Please call into the front office to complete an application form. You will need to bring in your child’s birth certificate, immunisation schedule and “proof of address” (eg rate notice, utility bill). Please note that the application period closes 27 July 2018.
Harmony Day Food Festival
What a great day we had! We saw a variety of beautiful, traditional costumes, a lot of orange and very full bellies from all the food we shared. It was great to see so many cultures represented, as well as parents and grandparents who gave up their time to help out on the day - thank you!
A very big thank you also goes out to all that contributed to our Harmony Day food fest. This event would not have happened without you!
We do have a few plates left over from the day which have not been claimed. If you are missing a plate, please see Miss Herbert in LA12.
We are very excited to announce that we raised $1000 from our food stalls, yet again. What a fantastic result! The money raised will be donated to the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) to help support children in Syria.
Watch this space for the chance to buy a copy of the recipes and share the memories with photos from the day. We are hoping to publish our very first Harmony Day recipe book including recipes, photos of the day, student illustrations, thoughts and writing, early next term. Sales will boost our fund raising for this important act of global citizenship.
Coles Sports for School Vouchers
We are still collecting vouchers! Please drop off folded vouchers to the front office. The collection box is located just inside the front door.
On the Ball …. With Mr P
Interschool Tennis
Congratulations to our Academy Plate Boys tennis teams that competed at Alexander Park Tennis Club on Friday, March 23. It was a fantastic day with our A team winning three matches and gaining a place in the quarter finals. Our B team also played some strong tennis, coming up against some formidable opposition. Well done to the team at Tennis West for organising a terrific event. Thanks to Mrs Reid and Mrs Argent for transporting the students to the venue and then back to school. See you next year!
School Colour Fun Run
Our school colour fun run is on tomorrow Friday, April 6 from 2pm, with the Kindy’s commencing at 1.50pm! It promises to be a great event, so make sure you have;

Volunteered to help via the Just One Thing note
Remember, each child will receive a pair of coloured sunnies on the day to use and keep as a keepsake.
Term 2 Winter Sports
Next term, your child may be selected to represent Landsdale Primary School in the year 5 & 6 winter sport ‘friendly’ against Ashdale Primary School to be held on Friday, May 25, 2018 in the afternoon from 1pm and/or against West Greenwood Primary School on Friday, June 8 in the morning from 9.15 am to 10.30am.
It is anticipated that all students from years 5 and 6 will compete against Ashdale Primary School, with a selection of students to compete against Greenwood Primary School as their student population is smaller.
These ‘friendlies’ as well as training in these sports on Friday afternoons are in preparation for the Winter Lightning Carnival to be held at Kingsway Sporting Complex on Tuesday, June 19.
If you are able to assist with umpiring or scoring at any of the sports below please let me know at your earliest convenience. As always, we welcome any positive support you can provide.
The sports being played are modcrosse, hockey, Australian Rules Football, soccer and netball.

Chaplain’s Chat
Hi School,
I-Value “I work well with others”
We have just celebrated Harmony Day and it reminded me of how we are all the same but different. In many ways we are the same – we have feelings, we breathe, we have the need to eat and drink, for example. And in many ways we are different – some find maths easier and some find English easier, some run faster and some can do gymnastics when others find it difficult to do a handstand, and that is okay.
Celebrating harmony day reminds us how people are different, different in what they wear, what they eat and even in what they believe.
Let us RESPECT each other, work well with others by accepting and enjoying the fact that we are different.
Chat soon,
Natasha

P&C President’s News
Happy Easter to all of our school community! How quick has this term gone?
Thank you to all of the parents who have returned the Just One Project 2018 notes so far! We’ve had an amazing response, you’ve out done yourselves!
We have many things happening at the moment all of which you can find updates on our dedicated fb page
https://www.facebook.com/landsdaleprimaryschoolpandc/
Colour Run is not far away and we are super excited! Please see Mr P’s newsletter items for the complete run down.
Our Easter Raffle was held on Thursday 29th March, we have had an amazing response to our donation call out and by the time this goes to print they will have all been won and taken home to enjoy! Thank you for getting behind and supporting this year’s raffle!
Uniform shop also has a new face! Please welcome Sandra to the position. Whilst Sandra gets her head around how all things work, please give her your patience during the next few weeks of open days and orders as she finds her feet.
The end of term is also an end of an era for our longest serving staff member in the canteen. If you get a chance on the last day of term 1, please call past the canteen and give Alison a fond farewell. Alison has been the face of the canteen for 12 years but has been involved within the school community for many more. Alison’s retirement has seen a reshuffle within the canteen and we’re pleased to have the baton passed to Jo to continue in Alison’s success. On behalf of the P&C we wish Alison all the best in her retirement.
Enjoy the school holidays and we will see you back for Term 2.
Cheers
Nat H
