21 June 2018
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
Thanks to all parents and families that have updated their email details as this will help in the delivery of the student reports by email. This means that you will not need to search for your child’s report that has co-joined with the two-week old banana at the bottom of their school bag.
The P&C have done a tremendous job this semester. Not only do the meetings only go for one hour but they have funded: 35 sunscreen pumps, new choir vests, interschool sports shirts and the Year 6 Graduation Award. Would you like to be a part of this welcoming group? Email Nat Herridge at lpspandcpresident@gmail.com.
Thank you to the Parent Link volunteers as you help the school help everyone.
Regards,
Dr Tony Beswick

Chaplain’s Chat
Hi School
Chaplain’s chat today is all about Cyber safety.
ESafety is committed to helping all Australians have a safe, positive experience online. There is a link below to their site where you can find out more about them and what they do.
iParent is one of their resources and where you can learn about the digital environment and how to help your child have safe and enjoyable online experiences. This is for parents with students 10 or older, however I would think any parent could have a look at what’s out there as we all have friends with older children (forward the link as well), cousins and our children will be getting more involved with the internet so have a look at what to possibly be expecting.
Screen Smart Parent Tour
Our 10 minute interactive tour is for parents of pre-teens and young teens (10 to 14 years).
It has plenty of tips and practical steps along the way so you can help your child explore safely and manage online issues should they arise. This is especially important at this age as they strive for independence and peer acceptance. There are no right or wrong answers and you’ll get to see how other parents responded to the same questions.
https://esafety.gov.au/education-resources/iparent
Australian Multicultural Foundations has some short e-learning courses for the Cyberparent They want to provide you with a simple tool that addresses how to promote a balanced family lifestyle with respect to online or internet use. The tool highlights some of the key dangers that young people might face in using the internet.

BOOK BORROWING CLOSES FOR TERM 2!
Tomorrow, Friday 22nd June is the final day for student book borrowing for this term. All library books are due back this week. Please ensure that your child has returned their books by the due date. There will be no class borrowing during Week 9 (returns only). Students who would like to borrow for the July school holidays can arrange a holiday loan during the last week of school. Holiday loans are due back on the first day of Term 3 (Tuesday 17th July). If your child has lost their library book, please arrange to pay the replacement cost through the Front Office. Library staff can advise the cost of the lost book(s).
SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB ISSUE 4
Items ordered in Issue 4 will be distributed to classes in the final week of term.
JAMES FOLEY BOOK ORDERS
Mrs Mattock has sent through the orders to Westbooks for the James Foley books that our students have ordered. Thanks to everyone who ordered. We had an amazing response! As soon as these orders are filled by Westbooks and autographed by James, they will be returned to us here at school and distributed to students. Thank you for your patience.
METEORITE IN LANDSDALE PRIMARY SCHOOL
Students arrived to school on Wednesday morning to discover the area in front of the office had been hit by a meteorite. There was plenty of discussion as students debated different hypothesis, about what and how this strange rock came to land at our school. Staff used the event to promote science and literacy links, encouraging students to investigate any questions or theories they may have had. The excitement from the students ensured an amazing hands on learning experience for the whole school community.
Although this event was a hoax created by the school staff, it has not made it any less valuable. Students have responded with full enthusiasm, ensuring plenty of key learning was had by all.
LA 14 – Jason, Nils and Abhi put forward their hypothesis about the strange rock. Nils Atkin and Frazer Gallo-Kabay wrote the following article as a result of their investigations.
On the 13th of June, a meteor came from the north sky in the middle of the night and landed behind the office of Landsdale PS, WA.
We believe this could possibly be a meteorite. However, judging the trajectory of this strange rock, it could’ve hit the roof of the alcove. Some people still believe it could be meteorite, but the majority think it could be a hoax. Some people believe it is an alien attack while other people somehow believe that it’s one of Kim Jon Un’s new bombs. But if it is real, all we know is that some meteorites sell for 40 times the price of gold.
Some of the year ones said “That it was an alien attack”. The year two’s on the other hand said that “it was an asteroid that was made from stone.” If the asteroids are real or not, we do know one thing, that it would sell well on eBay.

P&C President’s News
Term 2 is almost behind us and we’ve got much to look forward to in term 3!
Our last meeting for term was held last week and saw $6000 being spent between two wish list items. Funds allocated to the upgrade of electronic whiteboard/projector equipment for classrooms and the purchase of three multi purpose outdoor bench seats for the senior block.
We are also promoting heavily the commencement of two new committees.
20th Anniversary School Fete
We need help! Fete’s are the fruition of a lot of dedicated hard work and we need a brilliant bunch of people to help steer this enormous task on its way. If you would like to be involved, please email Sally lpspandcsecretary@gmail.com or text Nat 0403 326 828. We need help of all kinds, co-ordinating is just one aspect but we will also need hands on the ground to help with games, stalls and the like! It’s a great community event to be involved in.
Canteen Committee
Your Canteen needs you! We are looking for 2-3 friends to help us support the canteen in its daily duties. If the odd job of washing, photocopying & help in planning special menus etc sounds like you please contact Sally on lpspandcsecretary@gmail.com
Mother’s Day Stall
The Mother’s Day Stall was held back on Friday 11th May. Despite a bit of last minute panic over lack of donations, we came out on top thanks to our wonderful school community pulling together and getting us over the line. We successfully had enough gifts for each of our students to be able to purchase something nice for their mum/caregiver. We are still waiting on the exact final figure but I can say it is around the $2,000 mark which is just excellent.
Thank you to everyone who supported our Mother’s Day Stall this year whether it was by donation of gifts, wrapping or sending your children to school with $3 to purchase a gift. It was fantastic to see all the children so excited to buy something special for you. We hope you all had a fantastic day celebrating with your kids!
We had some enquiries as to what happens with any leftover gifts. I can tell you that any deemed suitable are stored & kept for next year. But many creams/lotions that may soon expire, we decided to donate them to the Salvation Army for distribution to some lovely women in need.
Special thanks needs to go out to Anne-Marie & Co at the Landsdale Guardian Pharmacy for the provision of donations despite my very last minute request, my helpers on the day, those that helped with all the wrapping and the ones who helped me get organised in the lead up. So my most grateful appreciation goes out to:
Natalie Herridge, Mel Knight, Kim Parr, Kathy Novachkos, Belinda Evans, Tanja D’Angelo, Leanne Lane, Annette Harvey , Sally Pellegrini, Tracey Ewers, Mel Fuller, Rowena Cassilli, Belinda Hooper, Tracey Vermaak, Nina Duggan, Irina Bodnar, Nina Brotherton, Debbie Yates and Zahra Alawi.

Entertainment Books 2018/2019
Thank you to everybody who has ordered or returned their 2018/2019 Entertainment Books. There are still a few outstanding so please get them back to the front office as soon as you can.
We are more than half way to our goal of $2500 so it is a fantastic effort with friends, work colleagues and family of the school community also choosing to buy memberships through our school. Please share this link for anyone in Australia to buy a book or digital membership. It’s very easy!
https://www.entertainmentbook.com.au/orderbooks/8338i8
Last year we raised nearly $2200 and the Entertainment Book recently presented us with a big cheque to mark our great effort.
Left to Right: P&C 2018 President Natalie Herridge, Principal Dr Tony Beswick, School Entertainment Book contact Aberline Attwood and Entertainment Book Manager Jennifer Schokker.
As always you can keep updated via our dedicated Facebook page.

If you too would like to get involved please get in touch! We welcome everyone to join our P&C community no matter how big or small, every contribution helps makes the team a successful one.

Cheers
Nat Herridge
