9 August 2018
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
Thanks to all grandparents, parents and guardians who came to our open night. There were lots of people engaging with the activities and displays of student work.
The preliminary NAPLAN data seems to show some good results. However, the administrators cannot show us any school mean scores or state and national means because there were many schools that still did the paper version of NAPLAN. The best part is that the individual data for each student will be used by teachers soon.
Last week, the school board discussed how we intend to re-structure processes to help students to behave well. We are still retaining our successful focus on positive education and countering bullying, but are working to ensure that our processes are more effective so that there is a faster response to behaviour support.
Regards,
Dr Tony Beswick

Long Jump & Long Throw
During term 2, students in years 3 to 6 were measured to see who would be selected to represent their faction at the long jump and or long throw event. The top 3 students in their respective year level, faction and gender are selected and the nominations are below.
The long jump and long throw day, as well as the distance running events are being held on Monday, 13th August. If you can assist in any capacity, please contact me know on the email below.
Faction Athletics Carnival
Our Faction Athletics Carnival is upon us on Thursday, 23rd August. It promises to be an enjoyable day and a program is attached for your convenience.
Freo Long Bomb & Kwik Kick
During the school holidays a selection of Landsdale students competed in the ‘Freo Kwik Kick & Long Bomb’ competition. We had a couple of winners in the Kwik Kick competition that progressed to the grand final this Sunday, 12th August at Optus Stadium during the Fremantle v Carlton match.
We wish Grace F and Jaime K all the best in their ‘Kwik Kick’ final and Tyler O in his ‘Long Bomb’ final. It should be a great day regardless of the result!
Eagles Visit
Earlier this term students in LA 7 and LA 11 were lucky enough to have a visit from Tom Cole, who plays for the West Coast Eagles. The students were very engaged with the skills he showed them and experiences he has had in football and in particular the West Coast Eagles.
The following week Tom received an AFL Rising Star nomination! Perhaps it had something to do with his Landsdale visit!

Change The World
Dear Landsdale families and community,
This is a message about 'Thinking Globally and Acting Locally'.
The students at Landsdale Primary School are keenly involved in making real changes to improve the world. Please look at the attached document, explore the links and complete the survey if you can. There is information, and ideas, about how you can get involved in 'Plastic Free July' and reduce the use of plastic and packaging in your life.
In week 9 of Term 2, LA 27 developed and conducted a survey of the lunch boxes in 5 classes (107 students) on one day only. Last week we learned how to represent and analyse this data by creating spreadsheets with formulas and converting this information to graphs to try and find solutions to reducing the amount of plastic and packaging in our lunch boxes. This week we are learning how to communicate digital information using an infographic based on our survey findings.
It is our first go and we have only had a couple of hours on Monday this week, so we are still learning how to design and communicate powerful information.
Year 6 Environmental Committee Fundraiser
Hi LPS Community!
The Environmental Committee have organised an ONYA fundraiser to support our Nude Food Day in week 9. The committee is supporting the sale of reusable sandwich wraps and shopping bags to reach a fundraising target of $300. The reusable sandwich wraps will be an ideal addition to students lunch boxes and will eliminate the need for a disposable bag that they can use over and over again.
There are many other ONYA products you may also be interested in purchasing. We have our own URL link for the fundraiser where products can be bought and delivered directly to your door.
Please help support our fundraiser and also be ready for Nude Food day!

Warradale Skate and BMX Park Consultation
As part of the 2018/19 Capital Works Program, the City has appointed CONVIC Pty Ltd to support the development of a concept design for a new skate park facility at Warradale Park in Landsdale.
This project has come about as a result of a petition received in 2017, requesting that the City investigate the upgrade of the existing BMX track or provide a new wheeled sports facility at the reserve. The City then conducted a survey with local residents and relevant stakeholders to determine the community’s preferences for a new wheeled sports facility at Warradale Park. The results of the survey revealed that the preference was for the City to construct a new skate park at Warradale Park to replace the existing BMX track.
WORKSHOP INVITATION
In 2017 the City of Wanneroo conducted a survey with local residents and relevant stakeholders to determine the community’s preferences for a new wheeled sports facility at Warradale Park. The results of the survey revealed that the preference was for the City to construct a new skate park at Warradale Park to replace the existing BMX track.
The City would like to invite the local community to be involved in the design process for the new facility, and so we would like to invite you along to an upcoming “Pre-Design” workshop with the skate park designers on Monday 13 August 2018 from 5:00-6:30pm at the Warradale Clubrooms at Warradale Park, Landsdale.
To RSVP for this session, please email youth.services@wanneroo.wa.gov.au or contact the City’s Youth Services team on (08) 9405 5887.
