From the Principal

Dear Parents and Families,

What a year! The academic results of the school have improved over the past few years and we hope that they will continue. Next year, we will be firming up our positive education approach and how we support students to be even better behaved. While we have very few suspensions, we certainly will be following up on the Education Minister’s widely published comments.

The school board has determined that we continue with our school vision of engaging students in their learning and striving to achieve goals. Ms Keera Bull is stepping down from her board commitments so we would like to thank her for her work for the Landsdale community. She has overseen a significant increase in the board discussing the direction of the school.

The P&C have been wonderful in funding major projects and making a real difference to the school. The Parent Link Program has helped the school listen to parents and carers. Please sign up next year.

The Department of Education predicted that we would be running at 650 students next year because of the opening of Carnaby Rise Primary. They, fortunately, forgot to tell the Landsdale community because we are back up to over 800 students next year.

On behalf of the school board and staff, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a great festive season.

Regards,

Dr Tony Beswick
Principal

Last Day of Term 4

Monday 4th February, 2019

First Day of Term 1, 2019

1-1 Program 2019

Thank you to all the parents who attended our Parent Information and discussion forums. They were well attended and we had really productive discussions. If you still have questions please visit the Frequently Asked Questions page of our website.

Not long now until the start of the next program for the Year 4’s in 2019 and any new or existing students who join, it’s never too late!

Early Term One we will run parent workshops on MacBook basics and the use of the Parental Control feature to set time limits like bedtime for your child’s laptop use. If you want to learn now, the Apple website is a great resource: Get to know your Mac We partner with Winthrop Australia to obtain the best educational prices and onsite technical support. They provide a convenient and easy online portal for you to order a device for your child. If you source a device elsewhere consider the portal information to compare accurately.

Once ordered the device will be delivered to your home over the holidays or to school during school terms. Students can bring them to school where our technicians will configure them for our network and additional software then return them to your child.

The Year 4 students will not require the device in the first week, their teachers will inform you when to bring them. In that week teachers begin setting acceptable use agreements and begin the focus on online safety.

We are Tennis!

Year 3 /4 Hot Shots Tournament

Last week was a very busy but fantastic two days of tennis - one of the most enjoyable interschool sporting events I have been involved with.

Second, it was a fantastic effort by all the Landsdale students at the Red Ball Gala Day at the State Tennis Centre last Thursday, December 6. The improvement show by the students since the beginning of the year and even from the start of this term has been super.

It was very pleasing to see so many parents come along and support their children, I would say over half the students that played were supported by their parents. Thank you to Mr Brown, James Middleton, Mr Ruscoe and the number of parents that assisted on the day, it made it that much easier for the students to participate and score on the day. This support was noted by other schools and event organisers.

We had nearly 60 students try-out on week 1 of middle sport for the tennis and would have loved to have taken them all.

Sorrento Tennis Club in-schools tournament

The following day at Sorrento Tennis Club, students from years 1-6 participated in the schools tennis tournament at the club. Our year 4 and under team finished runner-up with our year 2 and under and year 6 and under teams finishing third and fourth respectively. Again, the commitment and endeavour was very pleasing to see, and was further strengthened by positive feedback from Tennis West considering we didn’t have direct access to a tennis club like some other schools. Indeed, the progress shown by Landsdale was very evident. Overall, Landsdale scored the third most games, out a total of 8 schools.

Seasons Greetings

And so we come to the end of another school year, for me, my first at Landsdale Primary School. In fact, I have only actually been here for a term, however I very much feel like it has been longer than that, in a good way! Thank you for the warm way that the school, its students, teachers and the parents I’ve engaged with have welcomed me this term. I have really enjoyed my time here so far and I look forward to continuing into 2019.

As we come towards Christmas, I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. I’m acutely aware that many people celebrate Christmas differently, as well as not at all. Whatever this season brings for you and your family, may you have some memorable moments together.

I am also aware that this time of year can be a challenge for many. If across this holiday season you find you need someone to talk to, here are a few places that you can call and get support from.
