From the Principal
Dear Parents and Families
What a fantastic event the Food Festival was last week. You, as parents and carers, really helped the event by sending delicious food to the school, which excited the children. There were many students who came to school in unique and colourful costumes that showed the true multicultural roots of Landsdale Primary School. Thank you for your consideration. Overall, the event raised $1,246.35 and the money was donated to UNICEF and the Starlight Foundation.
The P&C has allocated some funds to the school for this year. They have provided a $2,575 contribution to the Year 6 camp and $50 to the Graduation Award. $8,200 was allocated to the playground for a structural engineer to conduct a survey and satisfy the Department of Education standards. The school is grateful for this fund raising effort of which the funds go directly to students.
Next to Landsdale Primary is an enclosed estate that has a driveway leading onto The Broadview. I request that you not park in the estate’s grounds or block the entrance to their homes.
Regards
Dr Tony Beswick

Student Achievement
We would like to congratulate one of our year 4 students, Maddie P (LA 17). Maddie competed in the State Athletics Championships last weekend and was lucky enough to win gold in the under 10 girls’ shot put. This was a back to back win for Maddie as she also won it last year in under 9’s. She also competed in high jump finishing fourth overall, discus, finishing 12th overall and qualified for the final in the 60 metres hurdles and finishing 7th overall.

WA YOUNG READERS’ BOOK AWARD 2019
The WA Young Readers’ Book Award is a state-wide event that operates on three levels: Younger Readers, Picture Books and Older Readers. Young readers are invited to nominate, through their libraries, books that they
have enjoyed. These nominations are then considered by the WAYRBA committee and the three lists are drawn up. Young people are asked to read titles on the lists and evaluate them as ‘Terrific’, ‘Good’, ‘Okay’ or ‘Not For Me.’
Currently, our Library has a display of all the shortlisted books. These are available for borrowing. Reservations can be placed on shortlisted books that are out on loan. Voting closes in September, so there is plenty of time for students to read and record their votes. Those who vote become eligible for a Scholastic Book Club voucher prize to the value of $25.

End of Term
The closing date for the return of all library books this term is Friday 5th April, 2019 (Week 9).
Class book borrowing will finish in Week 9. Students will return their books in Week 10. Please assist us by ensuring that your child returns their library books by the due date.

Faction Leaders 2019
Congratulations to all the successful vice-captain and captain nominees who were elected as faction leaders a couple of weeks ago. Well done to all students who nominated, the speeches were of a high quality and obviously a lot of thought had gone into them.

School Colour Fun Run
Our school Colour Fun Run is on tomorrow Friday, 29th March from 2pm! It promises to be a great event, so make sure you have;
- Created a login for your child
- Started fundraising for towards your goal
- A white t-shirt for your child to wear on the day
- Volunteered to help via the Just One Thing note
Remember, each child will receive a pair of coloured sunnies on the day to use and keep as a keepsake.
Interschool Tennis
Congratulations to all the girls and boys who represented Landsdale in the Academy Plate tennis competition last week. It was a number of students first time in an interschool tennis event and all participants should be very proud.
I must say a big THANK YOU to all the parents who assisted in transporting the students to the event (and helping with my child seat!) as well as acting as a ‘team manager’. These parents, in particular, were Tina Larner, Nicola Argent and Donna Reid. Without your assistance, the students could not participate in these events.
The girls participated at the State Tennis Centre last Thursday in very muggy conditions and finished 5th overall, being 1 game off the semi-finals. It was a fantastic effort and all the girls competed admirably for our school.

We had two boys’ teams compete in the Academy Plate last Friday at Belmont Park Tennis Club. Our Team B fought hard all day and was eventually beaten in the quarter finals by Landsdale A. Landsdale A won their way through to the reserve final. After losing 3 of the 4 singles matches, it came down to a nail-biting round of doubles. We had to win both matches to be in with a chance. Max and Kosta won 4-0 and Ruben and Cohen won 4-2 (it was 2-2 and they dug deep to win their match). After that it came down to games which Landsdale was in front 18-13. High fives all around!
The players were well rewarded and all students over both days should be proud of how they behaved, supported each other and represented LPS. This was mentioned by a number of other schools also.

Cross-Country Information
Our school cross-country, the ‘Legends of Landsdale’ will be held next term in week 2 on Friday, 10th May. It is being held earlier because swimming lessons are being held during the normal date of this event.
As this is nearly two months earlier than normal, Landsdale will compete in the interschool School Sport WA (SSWA) cross-country event held at McGillivray Oval on Friday, 9th August. This event is three months from our school cross-country, so we will enter this event in 2019, as opposed to our local one being held at Penistone in late October.
The nomination criteria for the SSWA event is the top 5 girls and boys in years 5 and 6, and the top 5 boys and girls from year 4 and under. As the selection will be based from our ‘Legends of Landsdale’ course, the year 4 and under competitors will be selected from the top 5 times in the year 3 and 4 events.
We will take a team of 30 students.

Mother’s Day Stall 2019 – Term 2
This year’s Mother’s Day Stall will be held across TWO days to help incorporate the Kindy & Pre-Primary classes – Thursday 9th May & Friday 10th May. It’s so wonderful to witness just how much all the kids love coming to do a bit of ‘shopping’. We’ve also decided to try something a bit different this year in that we will not be needing donations. I hear you all sigh with relief. We have chosen to purchase all gifts from an external supplier rather than put pressure on the school community for donations. We are very excited about the Stall this year so make sure, kids, to bring along $5 to buy your Mum, Caregiver or special lady in your life a lovely gift for Mother’s Day.
