From the Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
This term, the Year 5 & 6 teacher teams have been using an innovative way of grouping students under the project of Strengthening Students’ Thinking. Students are given a scenario to give their opinions on which leads to them being grouped into what their interests are regarding that scenario. Literacy and numeracy skills are also taught that they need to address the scenario. Students work in those groups for a term and then are given the scenario again to see if there is a change in their skills. We plan to re-group students each term with a different scenario.
The Year 2-4 teachers have expanded the work of teaching students basic maths concepts using the Junior Elementary Maths Mastery (JEMM) program. This research-based program created a significant upward movement in how students understand and can do basic maths last year. Importantly, kids love the program. Helpfully, your P&C funded the purchase of the Year 2 books.
Regards,
Dr Tony Beswick

FINAL DI WILCOX PARENT &
CHILD WORKSHOPS
“Dealing with Friendship Issues & Bullying”
Landsdale Primary School P&C have again teamed
up with
Grand Cinemas and the Make A Difference Foundation WA to bring
Di Wilcox back to Landsdale Primary School
on Tuesday 25th June 2019
to run her unique
Parent & Child Workshop on helping our kids to
deal with Friendship Issues & Bullying.
Split across two timeslots for upper and lower school they will run
from:
3.30pm – 5.00pm for children aged Kindy to Year
2
and
5.30pm – 7.00pm for children aged Years 3 to Year
6.
Every child at one time or another will face friendship issues, whether it be a disagreement with a friend, not having anyone to play with or being exposed to bullying. As parents we all want to know how to help them through these times…
Di Wilcox is the founder and author of The Magic Coat program, and her workshops provide both you and your child with important concepts and specific strategies to help your child deal with common friendship issues, and learn how to be a good friend.
Subsidised Tickets are just $10
per parent/child combination, and numbers are limited!
Over 80 parent & child combinations attended
Di's workshops earlier this week!
Most of those who attended indicated they would be coming back to the next
workshops, and almost everyone said they would recommend Di's workshops
to friends and family.
To secure your seats, go to the following Trybooking link below:
using the password: Landsdale
** Each Ticket provides entry
for one adult AND one child, and includes the cost of a workbook to work
through with your child at the workshop.
Also: There will be waitlists for anyone who does happen to miss out, in
case we get any last minute cancellations on or before the day.
https://www.trybooking.com/BDJAH
We understand that some parents may need to bring more than one child on the night (which is fine), however it is preferable to bring one child per adult in attendance if possible. This will enable you to focus your full attention on that child for the duration of the workshop. Parents are also free to come along without their child, if you feel that your child will struggle to concentrate for the duration of the workshop. The workshops are aimed at both parent and child attending, so each parent just needs to work out what will work best for them. Please feel free to contact me if you are unsure, as we just want you to get as much benefit from the workshop as possible, and we recognise that everyone's circumstances and children are different.

Children and their families become fitter, healthier and happier as they have fun, meet new friends and learn new skills to establish and maintain healthier lifestyles.
July Athletics Clinic
Would you like to host a Japanese Student?
Shoji Australia is currently looking for host families to support two visits to a high school in Landsdale.
Monday 29 July to Wednesday 7
August (9 nights)
Sunday 18 to Monday 26 August (8 nights)
Exchange visits are a wonderful opportunity. It’s rewarding and fun for families to experience another culture, share their experiences learning about Australia and form international friendships. Hosting increases cultural awareness and develops cross-cultural communication skills for all participants.
Apart from friendship and the opportunity to participate in family life, host families only need to provide a bed (preferred but a mattress is OK) and meals (as normal) for the students. Shoji Australia offer support to students and host families.
Families will be given a substantial payment to cover the living expenses. All non-school time is free to be spent with the family.
Please contact Shoji Australia for more information
