1 August 2019
From the Principal
We have some fabulous events coming this term. Open night – Learning Journey occurs in week 4 on 14 August. This is where your children get to show off their learning. We have the colourful Book Week and parade on the 23 August. And, how could we forget the Faction and Interschool Carnivals both at Landsdale Primary School.
I would like to thank Mrs Kristy Parkinson for being an acting Deputy Principal over term 1 and 2. Mr Pete Hayward will be an acting Deputy Principal in term 3 and 4 for one day a week.
The school is offering 20 three year old used iPads for tender to the Landsdale community. You can offer the school a price you are willing to pay and the school decides whether that is a reasonable offer. The iPads are in good working order, yet they would adversely influence our computer systems as we maintain up-to-date technology. The caveat is that students can then not bring them back to use at the school. More details in this newsletter.
Regards,
Dr Tony Beswick

Students Not Returning to Landsdale Primary School in 2020
We need your help to plan for next year. Please advise the front office in person or by emailing jennifer.shepherd@education.wa.edu.au if your child/ren are not returning to Landsdale Primary School for the 2020 school year. We would hate to see you leave, but telling us will help with the smooth transition to your new home and school.
Tender of iPads
Landsdale Primary School has 20 iPads, being the Air 2 64GB version purchased in 2016, available for purchase by tender. Members of the school community can place a tender for one or more iPads. All tenders must be handed into the school office in a sealed envelope, marked confidential and addressed to Jacqui Lyons, Manager Corporate Services. All iPads are sold in ‘as is’ condition. Students are not permitted to use these iPads at school as part of the 1 to 1 program, due to the age of the devices. Tenders close at 3.30pm on Thursday 8th August. Successful tenders will be notified on Friday 9th August.
Library News
CHILDREN’S BOOK WEEK IS COMING!
We are very excited about our upcoming Book Week!
It’s all happening in Week 5 of this term, from Monday 19th to Friday 23rd August. This year’s Book Week theme is “Reading is my Secret Power.” As part of our Book Week celebrations, we will be holding our annual WHOLE SCHOOL BOOK WEEK DRESS-UP DAY on FRIDAY 23rd AUGUST for all staff and students from Kindy to Year 6.
Children are invited to dress up as either a character from a book they know and love or as the book itself or they can wear a costume that relates to this year’s theme of “Reading is my Secret Power.” Remember that any book that creates a sense of magic and stirs the imagination, fits with the “secret power” theme.
Two parades will be held on the quadrangle outside the Undercover Area (weather permitting) on the morning of Friday 23rd August, for students to share their costumes and books with the school community:
* Junior Parade - Kindy (Bilby B & Joey B only*), PP, Yr 1, Yr 2 |
@ 9.00am |
* Senior Parade - Yr 3, Yr 4, Yr 5, Yr 6 |
@ 10.00am |
Parents are welcome to attend this event. We look forward to sharing another fun Book Week with our students, parents and staff.
* Please note: Kindy students who attend school on Fridays will participate in the Junior Parade on Friday 23rd August (ie: Mrs Covich’s Bilby B class and Mrs Wilson’s Joey B class). Possum (Mrs Caratti), Joey A (Mrs Marple) and Bilby A (Mrs Figliomeni) will hold their parade on Thursday 22nd August @ 9am in the Kindy area. Please check with your child’s Kindy teacher for clarification.

On the Ball …. With Mr P
Interschool Soccer
Good luck to those students competing in the interschool soccer Boys Primary Regional Championships at Kingsway Reserve today with Mr Brown.
Interschool cross-country
Our interschool cross-country is taking place next Friday, 9th August at McGillvray Oval. All competitors please meet me on the oval at 8.15am tomorrow, or as early as you can for some more training.
Long Jump & Long Throw
During term 2, students in years 3 to 6 were measured to see who would be selected to represent their faction at the long jump and or long throw event. The top 3 students in their respective year level, faction and gender are selected and the nominations are below.
The long jump and long throw day, as well as the distance running events are being held on Monday, 19th August. If you can assist in any capacity, please contact me know on the email below.
Faction Athletics Carnival
Our Faction Athletics Carnival is upon us on Thursday, 29th August. It promises to be an enjoyable day and a program will be available in the next newsletter. Please note the track will be reversed this year, running west to east.
School Learning Journey Open Night
Our School Learning Journey evening this year will be held on Wed 14th August, Week 4 of this term, from 4.30-6.30pm.
Classroom teachers will open their classrooms in a learning journey format, with activities and challenges for students to undertake with their parents. These activities reflect the learning that occurs in classrooms, and allows parents to experience current curriculum content and school priorities. Specialist staff will also be providing experiences at various locations around the school. Each parent will receive a passport to help them navigate their way around the activities. Please remember this is not a time for interviews with your child’s teacher, however friendly and courteous interaction is encouraged!
We look forward to seeing you on the night.

P&C News
Welcome back to term 3! We’ve got some exciting things planned for the term ahead and we are desperately seeking volunteer help for some of these plans.
The School Disco for this year is missing a coordinator and we need one to ensure the event goes ahead.
Faction Carnival - we are in the starting blocks of organising catering, so keep a look out for the volunteer shout out. We will also be doing something for the inter school carnival a few weeks after that as well!
The canteen menu update has been so well received by everyone - thank you for your support. If you missed receiving the new one at home please let us know and we can email you.
As always look us up on Facebook and “like” us to stay in the loop.

Father’s Day Event
The P&C are very excited as we have organised a Father’s Day event this year - Wednesday 28th August (Monday 26th for the Kindy A rotation).
Similar to our Mother’s Day event this year we have purchased all new gifts and will be selling from the library for $5.
We are very excited to offer this event this year and we know how much the kids love coming to do a "bit of shopping", so make sure students bring along $5 to buy their dad, caregiver or special man in their life a lovely gift for Father’s Day.
We will also remain open 2.30 to 3pm on Wednesday 28th August for anyone who wishes to purchase a second gift.
