From the Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
Landsdale Primary School is an active member of the Ashdale Cluster of schools. We bring to the community a variety of activities such as Cluster Muster that showcases student work in the Arts. The Visual Arts team has stepped forward and created an Instagram page that highlights student art work that the students have completed. There are few, if any, networks of schools that present artwork on such a platform.
Landsdale also prides itself on encouraging a strong community feel to the school as we believe your children’s school is a member of the broader Landsdale community. One of the celebrations that bring us all together is our involvement with the national Book Week.
Leon A (LA16) won a brilliant second place in the Year 4 and under race in School Sport WA Interschool Cross Country event. The reason why we decided to go to this event was that there were 1892 competitors across the 6 events ranging from 2000–2500 metres, which is more challenging for our wonderful students.
The Year 2 students won the Water Corporation’s Water Wise investigation so we will be having a visit from Kep, the water leak detecting dog in September. I would like to thank the Year 2 team of teachers who organised the investigation, and you parents for encouraging your children at home.
Regards,
Dr Tony Beswick

Visual Art News
The Ashdale Cluster Primary Arts phase of learning team have joined forces to create an Instagram page. As a team we are passionate about providing an opportunity for students to show their skill and creativity in the visual arts.
The Instagram page is a forum for work completed by students at Ashdale, Carnaby Rise, Landsdale and Madeley Primary Schools. We chose the Instagram platform because it provides an opportunity for family and friends to also experience the fantastic work being completed by our students regardless of where they are in the world.
We ask you to enjoy the work and participate in discussion about what the students have completed. However, we also ask that you remember we are showcasing the work of primary school children so please keep your comments positive.
You can follow us @ashdaleclusterprimaryarts
We hope you enjoy viewing the work as much as the team have assisting the students to create it.
Many thanks,
Mrs Callow

NEXT WEEK IS CHILDREN’S BOOK WEEK!
How exciting! Book Week takes place from Monday 19th – Friday 23rd August. Children’s Book Week is a national celebration of children’s literature. In each classroom, students will be participating in various literacy activities that are related to the 24 shortlisted books. These books are on display in the Library and are now available for borrowing.
This year’s Book Week theme is “Reading is my Secret Power.” The culmination of our Book Week celebrations will be our annual WHOLE SCHOOL BOOK WEEK DRESS-UP DAY on FRIDAY 23rd AUGUST for all staff and students from Kindy to Year 6.
Two parades will be held on the quadrangle outside the Undercover Area (weather permitting) on the morning of Friday 23rd August, for students to share their costumes and books with the school community:

@ 9.00am |
* Senior Parade - Yr 3, Yr 4, Yr 5, Yr 6 |
@ 10.00am |
Parents are welcome to attend this event. We look forward to sharing another colourful Book Week with our students, parents and staff.
* Please note: Kindy students who attend school on Fridays will participate in the Junior Parade on Friday 23rd August (ie: Mrs Covich’s Bilby B class and Mrs Wilson’s Joey B class). Possum (Mrs Caratti), Joey A (Mrs Marple) and Bilby A (Mrs Figliomeni) will hold their parade on Thursday 22nd August @ 9am in the Kindy area. On the Ball …. With Mr P
Freo Long Bomb and Kwik-Kick
Congratulations to all the students that competed in the state semi-finals of the Freo Long Bomb and Kwik Kick competition on the holidays. We had Jaime K and Grace F advance through to the finals of the Kwik Kick, they ended up achieving 4th place. Grace also got through to the finals of the Long Bomb competition and placed 2nd! Well done girls!!
Interschool cross-country
Congratulations to all the students that competed in the interschool cross-country event at McGillivray Oval last Friday. The student’s attitude and effort were exemplary, and I could feel a sense of anticipation the morning of the races.
With most races having over 300 students competing, and some over 400, Landsdale Primary School certainly held their own, with all students being able to complete the races well. A special congratulations goes to Leon A (LA16) who finished second in the boys’ year 4 and under race. This was Landsdale’s best ever individual performance in this event. For a full list of results, please visit the link below.

Thank you to James Middleton our wonderful school chaplain for assisting on the day as well as workplace student Tom E. It was great to see all the parent support in the day and hopefully this sets the tone for future appearances.

Long Jump & Long Throw
During term 2, students in years 3 to 6 were measured to see who would be selected to represent their faction at the long jump and/or long throw event. The top 3 students in their respective year level, faction and gender are selected and the nominations are below.
The long jump and long throw day, as well as the distance running events are being held on Monday, August 19. If you can assist in any capacity, please contact me know on the email below.
Faction Athletics Carnival
Our Faction Athletics Carnival is upon us on Thursday, August 29. It promises to be an enjoyable day and a program is attached for your convenience. Please note the track will be reversed this year, running west to east.

Water Corporation – Competition “Kep the Water Detecting Dog”
The Year Two students had an incursion for the Water Corporation in term 2 and after the visit students and parents continued their learning through a "Water Wise" investigation at home to be aware of water leaks. Students then returned their competition sheets to enter in the "Win a visit from Kep the water detecting dog".
I am thrilled to announce Landsdale Primary School won the competition. The water corporation with Kep and her handlers will attend the school for a special Junior Assembly for Kindy, Pre Primary, Year 1, Year 2 on Thursday the 12th September at 9.15am.
After the school assembly the year two students will observe Kep at work. As a condition of winning this prize, our school is requested to participate in publicity, including a photo for a media release; social media and Water Corporation’s website. Some photographs to be taken on the day of the visit.
