12 September 2019
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
Recently, the board was presented with the Countering Bullying report. Highlights included:
In this year’s survey, students perceived that 92% of students were not bullied; whereas, in 2017 they believed that 80% were bullied. Our target is less than 85% of students experiencing bullying incidences, which has been achieved.
Can we get rid of bullying all together? We can certainly work all together on doing that yet it seems that some students think that they can use their power to control others, which is difficult to stop.
There was a decrease of 6% of bullying behaviour in the playground, which may reflect the short-term extra support given to those who have behavioural difficulties.
We will still be revisiting the definition of bullying as much of the ‘bullying’ was one-off teasing. We have also strengthened the Buddy Class program, where classes are linked, to promote relationships across the school.
On another note, we are in the process of changing uniform suppliers as the school is now responsible for uniforms. This is because of a change in Department of Education policy. In mid-2020, it is hoped that uniforms will be sold in a shop that has normal opening times making easier for you. The aim is also to keep uniforms to the lowest possible price.
Regards,
Dr Tony Beswick

Library News
https://landsdalelibrary.weebly.com/
EVERY WEEK IS BOOK WEEK IN THE LIBRARY!
Children’s Book Week is celebrated once a year across Australia. However, every week is book week at Landsdale Library. We encourage our students to read every day of the week.
“Reading makes all other learning possible. We have to get books into our children’s hands early and often. At the moment that we persuade a child, any child, to cross that threshold, that magic threshold into a library, we change their lives forever, for the better. It’s an enormous force for good.” (Barack Obama)
It’s been a very happy, hectic term in the Library. Alongside regular library book borrowing, we’ve also hosted:
- Staff Professional Development Day
- Learning Journey Open Night
- Children’s Book Week, Book Café & Book Week Dress-Up Day
- P&C Father’s Day Stall
- School Photos
Thank you to all our students, parents and staff for your patience with changes to Library timetabling this term.
END OF TERM ARRANGEMENTS
Student book borrowing closes for Term 3 on FRIDAY 20th SEPTEMBER (Week 9).
Please ensure that your child’s library books are returned by the due date. If your child has lost their library book, please let Mrs Murray or their classroom teacher know, so an invoice can be sent for the replacement cost of the book. Parent loans should also be returned or renewed before the end of term. Holiday loans and renewals can be arranged at the Circulation Desk during Week 10. All October holiday loans are due back on the first day of Term 4 (Monday 14th October). We encourage students to keep reading for enjoyment over the holidays.
Student Battery Competition
Water Corporation – Competition “Kep the Water Detecting Dog”
The Year Two students had an incursion for the Water Corporation in term 2 and after the visit students and parents continued their learning through a "Water Wise" investigation at home to be aware of water leaks. Students then returned their competition sheets to enter in the "Win a visit from Kep the water detecting dog".
I am thrilled to announce Landsdale Primary School won the competition. The water corporation with Kep and her handlers will attend the school for a special Junior Assembly for Kindy, Pre Primary, Year 1, Year 2 on Thursday the 12th September at 9.15am.
After the school assembly the year two students will observe Kep at work. As a condition of winning this prize, our school is requested to participate in publicity, including a photo for a media release, social media and Water Corporation’s website. Some photographs to be taken on the day of the visit.

P&C News
Ben & Jerry’s Joondalup 5 Cent Challenge
Pre-Primary’s LA4 were the clear winners of the Ben & Jerry’s Joondalup 5 cent Challenge!
Pre-Primary’s LA4 (Miss Kelly & Mrs Taylor) WON the challenge, raising $175.10 in 5c pieces (10.4kg worth!).
They had their Ben & Jerry’s Class Ice-cream Party on Thursday 22nd August, and were absolutely over the moon with excitement about receiving their prize as well as a voucher each for a Free Scoop in a Choc Dipped Cone in-store!
They all LOVE Ben & Jerry’s, including the teachers!
It was almost a tie between Runner Up Class, Kindy’s Possum A (Mrs Caratti), who raised $87.55 and Year 2’s LA23 (Mrs Payne) who came in third by just $1.15, raising $86.40!!! Both of these classes weighed in at exactly 5kg, so our wonderful sponsor Ben & Jerry’s Joondalup even more generously decided to give BOTH of these classes the Runner Up prize of a Free Scoop in a Choc Dipped Cone in-store. The kids in both of these classes were also extremely excited to receive their prizes.
We raised a total of $1,197.25 from the Ben & Jerry’s Joondalup 5c Fundraiser – which was an awesome effort!
Thanks to everyone for participating.
