From the Principal

Dear Parents and Families,

Welcome to Term 2. It has been so lovely to see many of our students back at school, with smiling faces and different holiday stories. I have been particularly proud of their independence as many of them happily leave parents at the school gate, make their way to classes and ready themselves for the day. It is a new habit for many children that will build their resilience and confidence, and one that I would encourage parents to continue once we return to ‘normal’ schooling. The school day has been much calmer thanks to our separate in and out gate locations and staggered mornings and afternoons. Parents have been doing a great job with on time drop offs and pickups, so thank you.

Current advice is that the Government has extended the State of Emergency until the end of Week 3, so all current school decisions will stay in place until then. Please refer to the Distance Learning Parent Support Newsletters that have been emailed to all families and are also on every Class Dojo for current school information. No visitors or parents on the school site, and staggered start and finish times will remain.

I want to say a big thank you to all our parent reps and the Parent Link coordinators for keeping all our families up-to-date with important school information. I ask parents to please make sure you read everything that is sent out, as it will assist you to manage your children and what’s happening at school during this crazy time. Please also make sure you have your notifications on for Class DOJO while the school is still operating under COVID-19 guidelines.

Our school playgrounds remain closed to the public, but are being regularly cleaned throughout the school day. We ask families to please not use them before or after school or on the weekend.

Last term the Department of Education appointed a new Principal to Landsdale Primary School after the retirement last year of Dr Beswick. Due to COVID-19 impacting all schools, the Department of Education have requested that I stay on as Principal until the end of the term, and the new Principal will commence with us at the beginning of Term 3. I can now let you know that Josh Jashari has been appointed, he is currently Principal at Rivergums Primary School near Rockingham. He will be visiting the school during the term, and he has said he is very much looking forward to working at and leading our school.

Once again, I wish to thank the Landsdale school community for their support and patience during the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been a steep learning curve for all of us, and we are grateful that all our staff, students and families remain healthy and safe.

Happy parenting!

Kind Regards,

Mrs Cass Disisto
Principal

First Day of Term 3, 2020

Technical Assistance During Distance Learning

Students need access to technical help occasionally, at school they submit a ticket for their issue on our online Helpdesk and our technicians resolve the issue.

If your child is learning from home, the same process is available. Students, teachers and parents can still submit a ticket for a problem through our online helpdesk which can be found on the home page of our website.

The direct helpdesk link is at the link below:

http://portal.landsdaleps.wa.edu.au/help/lps/

Please make sure you include your contact details, email address and phone number, when filling out the ticket before you submit it.

The technicians or staff member will contact you to let you know when to drop the laptop in to the school reception area for them to assess the problem. Please make sure the laptop is clearly labelled with your child’s name, their password and contact details.

The technicians will either fix the issue that day or if it needs further assessment from an Apple technician, they will organise a Winthrop technician to visit the school. You will be notified when you can pick up the machine from the office.

Please ensure your child has backed up any data they want to keep before bringing in the laptop as the solution may include procedures that will wipe data from the machine. To back up their data they can copy it to an external drive or use time machine. Apple Australia has a support website with instructions and troubleshooting for many of the applications and utilities on the laptops if you need assistance with this.

2021 Kindergarten Enrolments

Kindergarten enrolments are now open for children born 1/7/2016 – 30/6/2017.

Please complete and return the application to the front office as soon as possible. Emailed applications are preferable at this time.

A copy of the child’s birth certificate, Medicare Immunisation Schedule and Proof of Address (eg. electricity bill, rates notice) is required.

The application period WILL CLOSE 3.30pm, Friday 24 July 2020. If you have any further queries, please contact the administration team.

Welcome Back to Term 2!

We are so excited to announce that the Library is NOW OPEN to students and staff. We have really missed everyone and look forward to seeing you all back again. You must be looking forward to getting your eyes on some new reading material!

Parents, please be reassured that we are taking every precaution to keep your child safe during their Library visits.

As such, we have some protocols in place for the commencement of Term 2:

  1. Restricting the number of students in at any one time.
  2. Practicing social distancing, wherever possible.
  3. Maintaining weekly Library visits for each class.
  4. Wiping surfaces regularly.
  5. Quarantining book returns, prior to re-shelving.
  6. Restricting use of the Picture Book trolleys to Kindy, Pre-Primary and Year 1 students.
  7. Closing the Library at lunchtimes.
  • Book borrowing for students will commence in Week 2, with our usual loan limit of two books per student for a period of two weeks.
  • Unfortunately, parent borrowing is not possible at present, as parents are not permitted on the school site. We will advise you immediately, if and when this changes.
  • All library books borrowed during Term 1 can be RETURNED with your child
  • (if they are coming to school) or to the Front Office (if your child is learning from home).
  • The final closing date for all Term 2 loans is Friday 26th June (Week 9).

Scholastic will send your ordered items to school. Once your order arrives:

  • Students At School – Orders will be delivered to students in classrooms, as usual.

Opening hours: 8:30am to 1:45pm

Welcome back to the new term! We have a revised Winter Menu in Term 2 & 3, attached for you and also available in colour from the canteen.

Winter brings hearty warm soups and the return of the very popular stuffed spuds! Homemade Chicken Noodle will be a permanent item however we will also come up with a few special soups during the term. The Spuds will also have a new topping which we think you’ll really love and will be a special item through the term.

For the moment, due to smaller class numbers we have reduced canteen operating days and reduced menu’s. Please see the attached information on both. Please note; ordering is strictly now only via the Qkr app.

Mid term & end of term special menus will be something to look forward to this term. For our teachers and admin, the Teaching Staff Menu will also be available again when the canteen returns to full operational days. We thank everyone so much for understanding the difficult position we are in and hope we can return to full capacity very soon.

To stay in the loop for daily menu specials watch the P&C fb page :

P&C News

A warm and wintery welcome back to Term 2! Normally we would be getting ready for Mother’s Day and also the Colour Run was planned to run at the end of this term, but due to the current restrictions for parents we have made the tough decision to put both these events on hold. This doesn’t mean 2 of our favourites won’t be back, rather just a postponement for us to enjoy properly further into the year. We are working behind the scenes and coming up with a couple of new ideas on how we can make both these events the best they can be for 2020!

The launch for our Fathering Project has also had to be put on hold, however we want to be able to hit the ground running when we are able to hold this event and wish to take contact details of our interested, Dads, Uncles, Grandads and Father figures who will be interested in coming along to our Launch Event. Please email lpspandcpresident@gmail.com with your name and child’s LA and we will make sure your one of the first to know the new date for the launch.

Always keep an eye for all things P&C on our facebook

Better Health Program Continues Online

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation face-to-face programs are cancelled until further notice. However, the online version of the program (formally named TEAM Kids Online) featuring weekly phone call support will continue uninterrupted.

Please note that places on the online version of the program are limited, with places being offered to families completely free of charge on a first come first served basis. Term 2 2020 places are filling fast, however we are currently in discussion with the WA Department of Health regarding increasing online places should demand necessitate this.
