From the Principal

Dear Parents and Families,

Welcome to Term 3!

I am thrilled to be taking on the role of principal at Landsdale Primary School. I have had a fantastic first week meeting our students and spending some time last Friday with our Ministers. I was very impressed with their enthusiasm and maturity in the meeting. I have also spent most lunch breaks wandering around chatting with the students. The feedback I received from them was that they loved their school and were very happy with what was going on in their classrooms. As you can imagine with over 800 students at the school it is going to take some time to get to know them all.

School Development Day: Our School Development Day last week highlighted the commitment and dedication of the staff with quite a number taking on leadership roles in a number of areas and sharing their expertise. This type of attitude and approach can only benefit our students.

Children’s Crossing: The Children’s Crossings and Road Safety Committee are conducting a review of the crossing on The Broadview near Warradale Terrace. This is part of a general 3-5 year review that is conducted on all crossings. As such parents and students are encouraged to use this crossing as often as possible. In order to complete the review two sets of surveys are conducted (two surveys during two different morning sessions and two surveys during two afternoon sessions).

Open Night: Our Premier Mark McGowan has extended current phase 4 COVID 19 restrictions to at least mid-August which will take us beyond our scheduled Open Night date. It is expected, given the current climate in other states, that these restrictions will be pushed back even further. As such our School Open Night will not be going ahead as scheduled. We will wait for further instructions from our Premier to set a future date bearing in mind other scheduled events for later this year.

Art News …. The Alice in Wonderland doors have well and truly arrived!

The doors have well and truly arrived at Landsdale! Students arrived back at school this week to find mysterious doors hidden around the school. Students have been investigating the zoomed in photos behind the doors to try to figure out what they are. There are also 13 letters hidden behind the doors, the letters, when unscrambled, make up a tricky Alice in Wonderland themed phrase, amazingly a few students had already solved it on the first day!

The Year 6 Art extension and Art committee, who made the doors, have also conducted tours of the artworks for some very enthusiastic year 2 students. Congratulations to Year 6 artists for your fabulous artworks.

Library News

Library Borrowing Now Open for Term 3

Welcome back for our Winter term. It’s a great time of year to get into some reading for enjoyment. When it’s cold and wet outside, there’s nothing better than curling up with a good book. If we’re lucky enough to have some sunny winter days, it’s lovely to sit outside in the sun and read.

We hope you enjoyed your July holiday reading. Holiday loans were due back last Tuesday 21st July. If you still have holidays loans outstanding, can you please return them or renew them this week.

Scholastic Book Club Issue 5

Issue 5 Book Club order forms have now been distributed to classrooms. The closing date for orders is FRIDAY 7th AUGUST (Week 3). Please send your manual orders to the Front Office before the due date. Alternatively, you can order online for ease, speed and convenience:

2020 Tim Winton Award for Young Writers

Year 1-12 students are invited to submit creative writing entries up to 2000 words in length to the Tim Winton Award for Young Writers. Entries opened yesterday (Monday 20th July and close on FRIDAY 14th AUGUST at 5.30pm (Week 4).

Welcome back to Term 3. It is great to get some sporting events up and running for the students. Details of events this term are below:-

Monday, August 10 - Faction jumps, throws and distance events
Thursday, September 3 – Faction Athletics Carnival

Long Jump & Long Throw

During Term 2, students in years 3 to 6 were measured to see who would be selected to represent their faction at the long jump and or long throw event. The top 2 students in their respective year level, faction and gender are selected and the nominations are below. I have listed 3 reserves for each event, these students will only participate if competitors ahead of them are unavailable on the day.

The long jump and long throw day, as well as the distance running events are being held on Monday 10th August. If you can assist in any capacity, please contact me know on the email below.

Faction Athletics Carnival

Our Faction Athletics Carnival is upon us on Thursday, 3rd September. It promises to be an enjoyable day and a program will be available in future newsletters. Please note the track will be reversed this year, running east to west.
