3 December 2020
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
Week 8 Term 4 2020
Student Ministers/Faction Captains
Our year 5 students have prepared for their presentations this week with a very impressive group of students willing to take on a minister/faction captain role next year. This is an opportunity for students to gain the skills and abilities needed to be responsible and innovative decision makers. The development of leadership skills will support students to also manage their own personal and academic wellbeing. Over the last few weeks the Year 5 students have had the opportunity to nominate to be a part of the 2021 school leadership team and be involved in speech writing and delivery, along with being a part of the election process. I wish to thank all year 5 students who nominated for these roles and wish them the best of luck.
COVID-19
As a result of recent developments with the easing of the state’s border restrictions, together with Health Department advice and along with the real potential of increased COVID risk within the community the Ashdale Cluster of Schools (Landsdale, Ashdale, Carnaby Rise, Madeley Primary Schools and Ashdale Secondary College) have seen the need to strengthen the implementation of our COVID 19 plan for the remainder of this year. Please understand that this requires some changes to long established practices and the school requests the community to continue to cooperate in this regard.
This information has been shared with the School Board who support the school’s approach. Please note the following;
- The school will be a place where food will not be shared. Please refrain from sending to school any foodstuff that is to be shared amongst students and or teachers.
- This will impact upon end of year class parties and celebratory events. Teachers can still have a ‘class party’ but not have shared food involved. Class teachers may structure this slightly differently from each other. For example, students may bring their lunch to school and have a picnic so long as they are not sharing their food or they can have other fun activities instead of a ‘class party’ e.g. board games, free dress, movie session (with popcorn if store purchased and individually sealed and not shared). They may still call it a ‘class party’ but have no food, or, if they want food this can be the student’s own lunch from home/canteen
- Graduation morning tea will still be able to happen as this is prepared by the canteen who have had COVID safe training.
- A reminder, if your child is unwell, please keep them at home.
Once again, thank you for understanding the ‘big picture’. Whilst we are asking our community to make some small sacrifices, I am sure everyone understands that there is more at stake across all of our communities.
Composite/Split Classes 2021
As I have mentioned in past newsletters we are well underway with the planning of classes (class structure) for next year. This of course will be very reliant on predicted enrolment numbers which may take until the very last day of the holidays to finalise. I have included a link below to direct you to more detailed Landsdale Primary School’s information about composite/split classes.
Students’ End of Year Reports
Currently, teachers are completing reports, which are a culmination of what has occurred throughout semester 2. Your child achieving a ‘C’ grade means that his/her learning is on track of what can be expected. To make those judgements, we use the Department of Education’s samples of student work to judge the standard of each student.
A link to your child’s report will be emailed to you in the last week of term. Please ensure you notify the school if you have changed your email address (you can email the school to confirm).
Important Note: the link will only remain active for 4 weeks after it has been sent to you so it is very important that you print a hard copy for your records before it expires.
Kind regards,
Josh Jashari

Library Book Borrowing Closes for 2020
All student, parent and staff library books are due back tomorrow on FRIDAY 4th DECEMBER. We then have the next nine days to follow up, return, sort, shelve and repair all our resources. We ask that you assist us by returning all your library books by the due date.
Over the Christmas break, there will be no holiday borrowing from our physical print Library. However, this does not mean that your child stops reading! Far from it. Summer reading is an important, enjoyable activity that students can do during the holidays to help avoid the 'Summer Slide' in reading achievements gained during the previous school year.
There are a number of options available to support Summer reading at home:
- Read books with your child from your home library collection. Books make great Christmas gifts!
- Access our excellent public library system by visiting any public library in our area. Regular library visits help to establish great reading habits that encourage life-long reading for enjoyment.
- Landsdale Primary students also have 24/7 access to our Landsdale Primary Digital Library through Wheelers eBooks & Audiobooks at: https://landsdaleps.wheelers.co/
Our digital collection of eBooks & Audiobooks are fun, portable, involve the whole family over the holidays and will help students academically. Students have access to borrow at school or at home, anywhere, 24/7. That’s the thing about books…they let you travel without moving your feet!
On the Ball …. With Mr P
Handball
Well done to all students that participated in the interschool handball carnival on Friday, 20th November. All players performed admirably on the day. Stars of the day were Girls A who finished Runners Up, Boys B for showing great resilience despite a tough first couple of games. Marnie F, Will V and Hudson R were goal-shooting stars also.
Thanks to Alex McClennan (SSWA) and Tom Hills, Deputy at North Woodvale Primary School for making the tournament happen in a year where there hasn’t been a lot interschool representation.

Sports Mural
If you are down at the basketball courts, have a look at the fantastic ‘sport murals’ on the wall to the left of the stairs as you go down. They were created by the Art extension students with the guidance of Mrs Callow and Mrs Shelsher. They look very bold and vivid!
Good Luck!!!
Good luck to all the students nominating for faction leadership roles in 2021. Results will be known soon.
All the best also to our fabulous tennis students competing in tomorrow afternoon’s tournament at Sorrento Tennis Club. All players have been training hard on a Wednesday and Thursday with myself and David.
Regards,
Mr Puccinelli
