From the Principal

Dear Parents and Families,

Week 10 Term 4 2020

It is without doubt that the COVID 19 pandemic was the leading issue for this year. Its impact on all of us within our school community, across the state, nationally and globally will be felt for many years to come. Having said this, I must congratulate all our parents for being so patient with the changes that needed to be implemented due to the numerous levels of restrictions that were placed on schools throughout the year. Your patience and support was very much appreciated by the staff at Landsdale Primary School. Along with this I would also like to acknowledge our staff, especially during the change-over from face to face learning to online learning earlier this year. This was achieved within a very short timeframe. Staff rallied together and collaboratively planned and implemented strategies to ensure a smooth transition between the two learning formats. I am amazed at the dedication these people have for their students and their school at a time when they too were concerned for the welfare of their own families. We need also to mention the resilience of our students who were able to take all this in their stride and adjust their own approach to this unprecedented situation. Because of this our year 6 students didn’t have as many opportunities as our past year 6 students, none the less they continued on with their learning accepting the situation as a fact of life. Well done to you all and good luck in your new secondary schools.

School Board

A big thank you to our School Board. I am always impressed with their enthusiasm and willingness to meet after hours and discuss the strategic issues related to the school.

The Board are able to monitor our Business Plan, Finance expenditure and be a part of the analysis of surveyed data as well as analysing NAPLAN data.

As we have a number of board members leaving us I wish to acknowledge them for their support and contributions over the years. Best wishes and thank you to Mrs Aberline Attwood, Mr Chiragkumar Patel, Mrs Debbie Yates and Mr Ben Scott for acting as Chair of the Board until the middle of this year.

We also welcome the following parents onto the board; Mrs Jalpa Patel, Mrs Michelle Santoro, Mrs Nadine Webber, Mr Ashley Marsh and Mrs Natalie Herridge for her second term.

P&C

The P&C are another hard working group of parents whose main focus is to support the school through fundraising events and the canteen service. We all should be impressed with the work of the Fundraising group as they have been able to raise a significant amount of money for our students. I would also like to congratulate our Canteen staff for providing amazing lunches to our school. Well done to Mrs Sue Uyen and her team for their amazing effort this year.

We can’t praise the P&C without acknowledging the work of the Executive led by our President Mrs Natalie Herridge. Your leadership in overseeing the Fundraising and Canteen service across the school has been fantastic. Well done to you and your team.

Parent Link Program

This is a program that assists with classroom communication enabling parents to keep in contact with what is happening across the school. It also puts parents of classes in touch with each other. The program improves communication and is manned by a number of very dedicated parent volunteers from each classroom. I would like to thank not only the volunteers but also Mrs Mel Knight and Mrs Michelle Santoro for leading this project in 2020.

Parent Survey

As part of our continual process of self-reflection and in order to strengthen our partnership already in place, we are seeking feedback from our community. This information will be used to guide our future planning. I have sent all families the survey link. Whilst this has been a difficult year because of COVID, we ask that you reflect on both 2019 and 2020 when completing this survey.

Staff Leaving Landsdale

As we approach the end of the year we have a number of staff who will be leaving us for a variety of reasons including retirements, new work opportunities and leave. We would like to thank all of these staff members for their contribution to not only the school but also to our students and community. They will be sadly missed and we wish them well in their new ventures

Farewell to:

Voluntary Contributions and Charges 2021

The School Board has endorsed the Voluntary Contributions and Charges for 2021. You have received information outlining the charges for 2021. The voluntary contributions are an integral part of funding additional programs in the school and we would encourage all parents to contribute as these funds are directed back to our students.

Composite/Split Classes 2021

As I have mentioned in past newsletters we are well underway with the planning of classes (class structure) for next year. This of course will be very reliant on predicted enrolment numbers which may take until the very last day of the holidays to finalise. I have included a link below to direct you to more detailed Landsdale Primary School information about composite/split classes.

Kiss n Drive Changes 2021

Our P&C are always looking at ways of improving its services to the school community. A very exciting new way of managing the program will be introduced next year and will really rely on more people being involved. In the past it has been the responsibility of a small group of volunteers who have attended to Kiss n Drive for the 40 weeks of the school year. Ideally it would be fantastic if you could do one session per week, however one session a term would be more than helpful, or, even once a semester.

A new system of ‘booking in your time’ has been developed. The project is a great example of the Parent Link Program and the P&C working collaboratively together. If you have the time I encourage you to be involved in this, especially if you are unable to volunteer for other events due to other commitments.

A special thank you to our new Kiss n Drive Co-ordinator for 2021 Ms Darshana Kika.

Information on how you can be involved is located elsewhere in this newsletter or contact can be made through: lpspandcroadwise@gmail.com

Kind regards,

Josh Jashari
Principal

Visual Art News

The Visual Art department was very fortunate to receive generous funding from the P&C this year to run an Artist in Residence project with students from year 1-6. The theme chosen was curious creatures, the CBCA book week theme. Students worked with the brilliant Artist in Residence Jodie Davidson to make looms, weave using recycled marine rope and dye papers to create parts of the leafy sea dragon. The resulting sculpture is now installed in the art room and is a stunning addition to our school. All students should be very proud of their efforts.

The second artwork is a series of sports murals which have been installed on the tennis/basketball courts, these were started last year by the year 6 Art extension class and completed by the Art committee this year. They add some much-needed colour to the courts and look great!

We hope the whole school community enjoys the new artistic additions to the school.

Thank you again to the P&C for their kind and generous funding which enabled these projects to be completed.

Tennis

Well done to all the students who participated in the Sorrento Tennis Club Hot Shots tournament on Friday, December 4. We had a number of new players and all contributed well. It was pleasing to see some interschool representation for our hard working students in 2020. We look forward to further tennis representation in the coming years.

Thanks to all the parents who assisted in managing and supervising teams and Alma Halilovic for washing the shirts.

Physical Literacy

You may have seen some students bouncing and hitting of late. Thanks to funding acquired in the ‘Sporting Schools Plus’ initiative, Landsdale Primary School was able to purchase a fixture table-tennis table, a trampoline, further sports equipment and in-school lesson delivery along with some other resources to promote Physical Literacy around the school.

What is Physical Literacy?

Physical literacy involves holistic lifelong learning through movement and physical activity. It delivers physical, psychological, social and cognitive health and wellbeing benefits. The Sport Australia Position Statement on Physical Literacy outlines our commitment to creating a heathier generation of more active Australians.

The Australian Physical Literacy Framework activates this commitment through the establishment of a common language to support all Australians develop their physical literacy, at every stage of life.

Physical literacy gives you:

  • physical skills and fitness
  • the attitudes and emotions that motivate you to be active
  • the knowledge and understanding of how, why and when you move
  • the social skills to be active with others.

P&C News

Welcome to the end of the year! We've had a fantastic year despite the challenges we all faced in 2020. We'd love to thank everyone from our committee members to our volunteer helpers during the year, without you what we do just isn't possible. With a lean year of fundraising it's still exciting to note that from the events that we did we have still raised a significant amount to enable us to give back to school. Quiz night $3700 & Disco $4000 have allowed for us to give back to the kids this year and put on the $3000 Colour Run for all the school community to enjoy and to fund the Artist in Residence program which you can see from the Leafy Sea Dragon on the art room wall, the kids certainly made good use of our $2500 contribution to welcoming Artist Jodie Davidson. Book Fair was another outstanding effort, over $11,000 in books and stationery was purchased by our community allowing for Mrs Murray to purchase $3606 in commissions for books and resources for the library! To round out our year with annual support for the Year 6 Graduating Class Endeavour Award and the Sunscreen for next year we also supported this year's Big Morning Tea with milk for the morning.

We welcomed our newest sub committee Lads of Landsdale Fathering Group and it has had enormous success already in its first few events. The last one for the year is Sandcastles at Whitfords Nodes Beach which will have 48 families enjoying the morning in the sunshine AND we have produced our 1st Edition of the Community Business Booklet to which you all should have received home this week! Inspired by the Pre Primary Community Project at the beginning of the year we have 27 wonderful school families who have advertised their small businesses inside. Please check it out and you might find someone you can help in supporting local.

Our Bush Blues Cafe Canteen has again gone from strength to strength and the amazing staff we now have working are a testament to its success. We are a very lucky community to have a full time canteen of 5 days a week, as some schools only manage 1 or 2 days open a week. With your continued support of the canteen in ordering lunches daily we are able to ensure we have the staff to facilitate its needs. Exciting and well timed for our Year 6 Graduating class, our new Canteen Uniform shirts have arrived. Our staff will be a constant reminder of the 2020 year 6's in wearing the collaborative shirt design everyday.

We are introducing a new project for Kiss & Drive volunteering for next year and we hope everyone gets on board with us. With our ever changing parental commitments we have found the 20 year old system needed an upgrade! We hope you welcome the new change as much as we do, with a collaboration of the P&C and the Parent Link Program we hope that everyone gets behind us to take Kiss & Drive volunteering into a new era. A P&C 2021 Information pack will be circulated in the new year to all families with all of the details.

And finally, it's also with a little sadness that we are farewelling many of our long term committee members and volunteers who are moving on up to high school with their youngest children. The contribution they have collectively given the school & the P&C over the years is immeasurable. We wish their kids all the best in the transition to high school and we know we will still see you around but we will certainly miss you just the same.

Thanks for a fantastic 2020 and we look forward to seeing you all back at school on the 1st Feb!

Nat P&C 2020 President

Better Health Program

After almost a year of Covid-19 disruptions we are very excited to announce that the Better Health Program will return to face-to-face delivery in Term 1 2021. Online places will also be available for families who cannot access a local program or have additional needs which make attending a group program difficult.

Face-to-face program locations and days are currently being finalised, but will include great community venues both North and South of the river.

Please note that places on the face-to face and online version of the program are limited, with places being offered to families completely FREE of charge on a first come first served basis.
