COVID- Restrictions

What a welcome relief not to have to wear our masks, let’s hope we can sustain this and not have to go back to a lock down or mask wearing. We are now back to basically ‘phase 4’ of the Health Departments guide with regards to the level of restrictions imposed on the community. This will mean that parents can come into the classroom (limits may apply) and parent meetings can proceed so long as there is social distancing of 1.5 meters. Most of the current restrictions are for events with over one thousand people and public transport travel which will have limited impact on our situation at school for the time being.

Workforce News

This term we have advertised for two teaching positions. These will follow a merit selection process. One is for a Physical Education Specialist (full time) and the other is for a EAL/D Specialist (part time). We have increased our current EAL/D Specialist time to help support the large number of students with non-English speaking backgrounds at the school who are eligible. The extra support will be in place for six months initially.

NAPLAN

Along with students across Australia our NAPLAN testing commenced this week. Testing will continue until Friday with some ‘catch up’ sessions scheduled for next week. Our students are undertaking this on-line except for Year 3 Writing which will be a pen and paper version. Students seemed very settled and very focussed on my observation of classes during the tests.

NAPLAN results can assist teachers by providing additional information to support their professional judgement about students’ levels of literacy and numeracy attainment and progress.

The NAPLAN tests are one aspect of our school’s assessment and reporting process, they do not replace the extensive, ongoing assessments made by teachers about each students’ performance. Your child’s teacher will have the best insight into your child’s educational progress.

Assemblies

As a school we have reassessed our policy around parents attending assemblies. This is due to the fact that parents have been very supportive this year with adhering to our attendance requests. As from next week (week 5, 19th May) we will be allowing the following arrangements:

• Two adults may attend if your child is receiving a merit certificate
• Two adults may attend if your child’s class is performing/running the assembly.

We hope further easing of restrictions in the future by our Premier will lead to more parents and community members being able to attend.

National Walk Safely to School Day

National Walk Safely to School Day is on this Friday, May 14th. This program is in its 21st year and is an annual event where primary school children are encouraged to walk and commute safely to school. The WA Government are proud supporters of this program and we encourage children to walk safely to school not only on this day but every day.

Curtin University Mathematics Enrichment Classes 2021

NAPLAN Online – Information for Parents

Students in Years 3 & 5 will be participating in the annual NAPLAN tests in reading, writing, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.

The assessment provides parents and schools with an understanding of how individual students are performing at the time of the tests. NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process – student grades are based on ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, the NAPLAN results are not necessarily considered.

This year the NAPLAN tests will be held from Tuesday 11th May to Friday 21st May, 2021. The school’s testing timetable for testing will be provided early in Term 2. For more information, please see the pdf attached.

Found – Car/House Keys

We have two sets of car keys that have been held in the office for a while. If you’ve lost a Mazda or Mitsubishi key, both sets have various house keys attached, please contact the office on 9302 4100.

Found – Drone

A drone has just been handed into the office. If it’s yours, please call into the office to claim it.

Library News

MOTHER’S DAY STALL

Thank you to all our students, parents, grandparents and staff who purchased lovely gifts for their mothers, stepmothers and grandmothers from our Mother's Day Stall that was held in the Library. Thank you also to the P&C team of Ms Fuller and the wonderful parent volunteers who organised and ran this heart-warming event.

NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME (NSS)

National Simultaneous Storytime is an annual national event that promotes the value of reading and literacy for young minds. The whole country tunes in to share a story on the same day at the same time. Landsdale Primary School will be a part of this exciting event that takes place on Wednesday 19th May at 11am. Join thousands of bookworms and space cadets for an “out of this world” livestream of an astronaut from outer space reading the featured children’s picture book, “Give Me Some Space”, by Philip Bunting.

Join us for an intergalactic experience with this fabulous book being read by the astronaut, Dr Shannon Walker, from the International Space Station. How cool!

Hot-Shots Tennis lessons with InStyle Tennis! Tennis lessons at school are held Wednesday 7.45-8.30am. Lessons started April 28 ($145.00/ 8 weeks). Each Waste Free Wednesday (please remember to send a fork with your child if ordering) will coincide with our Wednesday specials. We will post these specials every Sunday on Facebook so don’t forget to hop on and have a look.

Lunch orders are on Qkr every morning cut off for ordering is 8.45am. Please do not hesitate to call us if you have any issues.

We have a huge range of yummy homemade treats available for the kids to buy at recess time ranging from 50c to $2.50. We would love to hear from your children if they have any ideas on any healthy treats they might like.

Kiss & Drive

Just a reminder that Term 2 (19th April to 2nd July) is Year 3 and 4's parents turn.

Thank you to the few parents that have already put their names down so far. Please remember that in order to make this a success your volunteering time is much needed. This term is a slightly longer term, so all your help is required.
