29 July 2021
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Families,
Thank You
A huge thank you to Mrs Bracegirdle for taking on the role of Principal in my absence over the last two weeks of term 2. Mrs Bracegirdle was certainly thrown into the deep end by having to deal with the logistics of a snap lockdown within this timeframe. Well done on your leadership over this period, it was much appreciated by our staff, parents and students.
Workforce Update
Merit Selection: Two teacher pools (Early Childhood and Primary) are currently being advertised for positions at Landsdale Primary School in 2022. These may include permanent and fixed term positions that may become available. The pools, once formed, are ‘active’ for a period of twelve months or until they have been exhausted. Applications close on Thursday 5th August 2021.
Physical Education: A huge thank to you to Mr Brown for his work in back filling Mr Puccinelli’s position last term and thank you also to Mr Palmer for his work in this area as well. We would also like welcome Mr Andrew Baggio to the Phys Ed role at Landsdale Primary School.
Arts: Welcome also to Ms Liza Gandy who will be our new full time Arts Specialist whilst Mrs Callow and Mrs Shelsher work on other projects at other schools over the next six months.
Welcome: Welcome also to Miss Bec Branson who will be back filling 0.2FTE of Mrs Dominy’s time in LA22. Miss Jess Perone has also been selected to replace Mrs Forrest’s PP DOTT role.
Maternity Leave: As you may be aware Mrs Condren (LA28 Year 6) will be going on maternity leave as from this Friday (30th July). We would like to thank Mrs Condren for her work in the senior part of the school and wish her and husband, Jackson, all the very best with the birth of their first child (enjoy the peace and quiet while you can). Mr Tom Palmer will be backfilling Mrs Condren’s position until the end of this year.
Facilities Update
Covered Area: Over the holidays a covered patio has been installed between LA 25 and LA 29 giving protection to the bagged area outside of LA 25. This was very welcomed by students in both classes.
Make a Space Area (Science alcove behind ‘Numbat Lodge’): Work has been undertaken to panel the space above the sliding door which will protect the alcove area from the weather and make the area more secure for our students who are working in this space.
Shed: A new large shed is scheduled to be built commencing week 7 of this term. This shed will extend over the old green-house area and include the area where the existing sheds are adjacent to the green-house area. The bin enclosure area will also be converted into an enclosed area to utilize this for storage. This is much needed as there are very limited storage areas around the school, especially for a school of this size.
Security Cameras: A huge thank you to Margaret Quirk MLA for her support in funding these for our school. The cameras have been ordered and we should see some progress on their installation during this term. We hope that these will help to keep our school safe and lead to minimising any vandalism over weekends and holiday periods.
Flag Pole: These have also been ordered. The existing flag pole will be moved to the corner of the lawn area outside of the canteen with two other flag poles being added with some extra paving and limestone edging.
Future Facilities Planning: I will be developing a long term Facilities Improvement Plan for our school which will incorporate facilities and equipment located outside of buildings, on buildings and items within the buildings - this will also include a structured classroom furniture replacement process as well as other equipment and office space requirements. The School Board will also have input into this.
Chaplain
As part of our Health and Wellbeing focus at our school we have increased funding for our Chaplain, Michelle Rossi, from two days to four days per week. Ms Rossi will be at school on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday each week. This is to support our students, improve engagement and also be available to parents and staff.
Kind regards,
Josh Jashari

Our telephone number has changed. The new number is 9408 3850. The old number will be phased out in coming weeks.
Tender of MacBooks
Landsdale Primary School has 6 MacBook Airs, model A1766 128GB purchased in 2018, available for purchase by tender. Members of the school community can place a tender for one or more MacBooks. All tenders must be handed into the school office in a sealed envelope, marked confidential and addressed to Jacqui Lyons, Manager Corporate Services. All MacBooks are sold in ‘as is’ condition. Students are not permitted to use these MacBooks at school as part of the 1 to 1 program, due to the age of the devices. Tenders close at 3.30pm on Thursday 5th August. Successful tenders will be notified on Friday 6th August.
Art News
Students have been getting creative decorating their classroom doors and windows at Landsdale Primary School with Noongar animal displays as part of the annual NAIDOC week celebrations. They have learnt the Noongar names for some of our native species and have been super creative in their displays. What a lovely way to brighten the school environment at the end of term 2. Well done everyone on a fantastic effort!

CHILDREN’S BOOK WEEK IS COMING!
BOOK WEEK
WHOLE SCHOOL DRESS-UP DAY
Friday 20th August 2021 (Week 5)
“Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds”
To celebrate Children’s Book Week, we will be holding our Whole School Dress-Up Day & Parade for all students and staff from Kindy to Year 6 on FRIDAY 20th AUGUST (Week 5).
Children are invited to dress up as either a character from a book, as the book itself or they can wear a costume that relates to this year’s very open Book Week theme of “Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds.” Any book that stimulates the imagination, (past, present or future) fits nicely with this theme. If possible, we ask that students bring their chosen book with them (or borrow it from the Library) to show the relationship between their costume and book. We encourage creativity and originality. Home-made costumes are perfect, as the fun is in the process of creating, rather than the end product. (No need to make, purchase or hire expensive costumes). Just upcycle and use what you have! All students who participate in the Dress-Up Day Parade will receive a “Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds” bookmark.
Two parades will be held on the school quadrangle outside the Undercover Area on the morning of FRIDAY 20th AUGUST for students to share their costumes and books with the whole school community:
Junior Parade |
Kindy/Pre-Primary/Yr 1/Yr 2 |
@ 9.00am-9.45am |
Senior Parade |
Yr 3/Yr 4/Yr 5/Yr 6 |
@ 10.00am-10.45am |
Parents are most welcome to attend this special event. We hope you enjoy this fun morning with us.
Please contact Mrs Murray in the Library on 9408 3850 if you have any questions about the Book Week Dress-Up Day.
Thank you for your participation. We look forward to seeing everyone dressed up on FRIDAY 20th AUGUST
Please note:
- A Group Kindy students (Joey A – Mrs Caratti and Bilby A – Mrs Covich) will hold their parade on MONDAY 23rd AUGUST.
- B Group Kindy students (Joey B- Mrs Marple and Bilby B – Mrs Figliomeni) will join in with the whole school parade on FRIDAY 20th AUGUST.
Please check with your child’s Kindy teacher for clarification.

Roadwise Committee
Thank you to all the parents that volunteered for Term 2 Kiss n Drive. Your help and time was and is greatly appreciated.
The winners for Term 2, $10 canteen vouchers are Rhiannon Birch and Nerissa Toh. Well done and thank you!
Unfortunately Term 3 has seen a very slow start to fill up the roster. This Term is Year 1 & 2‘s turn. Please parents do come forward and put your name down even just once. That in itself is such a great help to the school to move the traffic efficiently and quickly in the afternoons. Understandably you might not use Kiss n Drive currently, but in the future you might once the kids grow older, so come on Year 1 & 2 parents jump online and fill the roster. By doing this you all will be supporting the parents from Year 6-3 that have filled the Roster since Term 1. Don’t let them down and show them you all are just as great! I know you can do this. Click on the link right now.

On Southmead Road, please parents do not stop in the middle of the road by the gate and drop off your children. This is a big hazard to you as well as your children. Either find a parking or use the Kiss n Drive. It will just take a few more extra minutes of your time. Which is worth it for everyone’s safety. This goes for the same on Warradale Terrace. Parents are parking on the kerbside across the gate which then in turn is blocking the cars behind them and children are then having to cross the road. This too is a hazard. Please parents be mindful of safety and use the Kiss n Drive or find a parking. It is us as parents that need to set a good example of driving for our children in the future.
Still be mindful and don’t forget to drive right up to the front of Kiss n Drive if it’s empty in the mornings. That way traffic behind you is not backing up. Also don’t forget to indicate your intentions, be it entering the Kiss n Drive or exiting as that helps drivers behind you know what you are intending.
Drive safely everyone in this wet weather.
Regards,
Darshana

Wanneroo Joondalup Tee Ball Club - Registrations
The Wanneroo Joondalup Tee Ball Club ('WJTBC') 'Come & Try Day' will be held on Saturday 21st August 2021 from 1:00pm-3:00pm at Percy Doyle Reserve, Duncraig (COVID permitting). BBQ and Canteen food will be available. We understand some schools run Tee Ball as part of their sports program in Term 3 or 4 so we believe this event is timely.
Tee Ball is a fantastic, summer season sport that builds friendships and co-ordination, but most importantly is about kids getting involved and having fun! Organised activities involving sports, music or education have proven to be beneficial to a child’s physical, cognitive, cultural and social development.
