From the Principal

Dear Parents and Families,

Book Week

This week is Book Week and the theme ‘Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds’ leaves students with the notion that “any world one can imagine has either been written about already or will undoubtedly be written about someday. Every one of these imaginary worlds is open to those who love to read and if that is you, then you are sure to discover…”. Students will be doing Book Week Activities in class and in our library. Books shortlisted by the Children’s Book council are on display in the library for our teachers to read to our students during library sessions.

Our Book Week Parade was a fantastic success. Thank you to Mrs Murray for her organisation and Ms O’Hara. It was great also to see the staff joining in on the theme and dressing up. I am amazed, as I was this time last year, at the amount of time and effort parents have put in to ensure their child/ren were dressed in character. Some of the costumes were outstanding. Well done to all who made this event so successful. Thank you also to Margaret Quirk MLA for her donation of books to the school along with a new State Flag.

Paul Litherland

Paul visited our school on Tuesday to speak to our senior students. Paul is regarded as one of Australia’s leading Key Note Speakers on Internet Awareness. Paul has had coalface experience working in the Technology Crime Investigation Unit of the WA Police Force. He was able to provide our students with up to date technically relevant knowledge about interacting online safely and being more aware of the information that is being given to ‘friends’ on-line. He was able to engage our students using real life stories, being non-judgemental and honest with our students.

As part of the Ashdale Cluster of School’s focus on Student Wellbeing Paul held a session for parents last Monday evening at Ashdale College giving relevant information on how to support students in being responsible and more aware of the online environment.

Kind regards,

Josh Jashari
Principal

Roadwise Committee

A massive thank you to everyone who has stepped up from Years 1 & 2 to help fill the roster this term after our recent shout out. There’s still a few more spots left, click on the link to check it out now:

Just a reminder on Southmead Road, please parents do not stop in the middle of the road by the gate and drop off your children. This is a big hazard to you as well as your children. Either find a parking or use Kiss n Drive. It will just take a few more extra minutes of your time, which is worth it for everyone’s safety. This goes for the same on Warradale Terrace. Parents are parking on the kerbside across the gate which then in turn is blocking the cars behind them and children are then having to cross the road. This too is a hazard. Please parents be mindful of safety and use the Kiss n Drive or find a parking spot. Please don’t use private driveways. It is us as parents that need to set a good example of driving for our children in the future.

Still be mindful and not to forget to drive right up to the front of Kiss n Drive if it’s empty in the mornings. That way traffic behind you is not backing up. Also don’t forget to indicate your intentions, be it entering the Kiss n Drive or exiting as that helps drivers behind you know what you are intending.

Drive safely everyone in this wet weather.

Darshana
