Workforce Update
Merit Selection: During this term we have developed two teacher pools through a merit selection process. The two pools are the Early Childhood Pool and Primary Teaching Pool. We were thrilled at the quality of the prospective teachers who applied. Positions for next year will be offered to members in each of these pools as the need arises. The pools are valid for 12 months.
Facilities
Shed: A new large shed is scheduled to be built commencing this week. This shed will extend over the old green-house area (which is now demolished) and include the area where the existing sheds are adjacent to the green-house area. The bin enclosure area will also be converted into an enclosed area to utilize this for storage. This is much needed as there are very limited storage areas around the school, especially for a school of this size.
Security Cameras: A huge thank you to Margaret Quirk MLA for her support in funding these for our school. The camera installers were in this week to do the final check with camera placements. We hope that these will help to keep our school safe and lead to minimising any vandalism over weekends and holiday periods.
Future Facilities Planning: I have developed a survey which has been sent out to parents and closes next week. This will help inform our new Facilities Plan over the next three years.
Local Area Planning (South Landsdale PS)
The principal position for this has just been advertised. The new principal will spend next year planning for his new school. Which will open in 2023. Local area intake ie. boundaries are now being planned. We had a meeting during week 8 of this term with a proposal from the department. The current principals were able to have input. This has been taken away and DOE will be modifying/fine tuning based on our suggestions.
COVID Update
A vaccination program for 12 to 18 year olds will be commenced in public schools as from first week of next term. Students will require parent consent. School will not be vaccinating students without this.
Staff and students (16+) will have priority at vaccination centres and will be able to ‘walk in’ without appointments. Please refer to the Health Department website for details.
Interschool Athletics Carnival
This was held on Friday after being postponed from the Thursday date. I was able to watch most of the flat races and was so impressed by the students who competed. All students were great ambassadors for our school and should be very proud of themselves. Our school came second overall. Well done!
Claire Eaton
Claire Eaton is a WA speaker, youth coach and author of ‘ROC and Rise’ and ‘Hello High School’. Claire will workshop our year 6 group and will guide students through five practical strategies which they can adopt in helping them transition to high school.
Claire will workshop both students and parents - families will take away friendly tools, tips and strategies needed to transition from primary to high school with less stress and more success. The Year 6 workshop will be held on Monday 8th November at 11:45am and the Parent work shop is scheduled for the evening between 6:30pm-8:00pm in our school library.
School Leaders Camp
This was held on Monday 20th September. The purpose is to promote team building, building leadership capacity, and development of positive relationships. Activities included team building games, archery and crate climbing. This is part of the Ashdale Cluster of School’s Student Leadership Initiative. All schools in our Cluster participated by sending their student leaders along.
Open Night
Last year we had to cancel our Open Night due to the restrictions imposed on us through COVID. This year we were fortunate to hold ours last Wednesday. This was extremely successful with a huge number of parents visiting their children’s classrooms along with specialist activities set up around the school. Parents gave very good feedback about the evening and appreciated the opportunity to visit the school. It was evident that not only were the students very proud of their work they also enjoyed having their parents visit.
Class Placement Request 2022
The school is now planning for classes and class structure for the 2022 school year. As you would imagine it is very difficult to predict enrolment numbers this far out from the beginning of next year.
Landsdale Primary School ensures classes are formed in such a way as to best meet the needs of its students. The school spends a considerable amount of time creating its class lists which is based upon the professional judgements by staff with the aim of creating the best learning environment for each student. All factors are considered when making these judgements. The best interest of all students is paramount when making placement decisions.
Parents and carers may request a specific class placement through providing the school with educational reasoning behind this request. This may be in the form of specific information about their child’s learning needs that they believe the school may not be aware of. Such information would not include any requests regarding a particular individual teacher. Please be aware that these requests may be considered but not automatically accommodated. Please email Mrs Tania Burke (tania.burke@education.wa.edu.au) or send a letter marked ‘Private and Confidential’ to Mrs Burke by Friday 29th October 2021.
Class lists will be formed and then reviewed by all staff. They will then be submitted to the Executive Team for further review. Following this any change to class placement will only be made in exceptional circumstances, however this tends to be extremely rare.
Composite/Split Classes 2022
Over the last term we have been taking Kindergarten enrolments for 2022. I am pleased to say at this point we have one hundred students enrolled already. We have also been making predictions on the structure of classes across the rest of the school for 2022. We have no doubt, and as is the case in almost all schools, that we will have split or composite classes occurring. The number of these will be very reliant on the enrolment numbers gained during the first week of school. Until then we can only make predictions on what we think the numbers will be. We take into consideration the school’s past enrolment history, information supplied to us by 2021 families who may be leaving or entering the school, the number of building activity within the school’s intake area and information that is supplied to us through the Department of Education. This information is then assessed and we make predictions on the number of classes and class structure throughout the school. We develop three scenarios of these class structures. During Term 4 of this year we will be organising our staffing to ensure we have these scenarios catered for. This is not only for teaching staff but also non-teaching staff.
Last year I produced an information sheet for parents detailing research behind the benefits of composite/split classes. Please view this through the following link:
Kind regards,
Josh Jashari

Remote Learning Plan
The Education Department has requested all schools prepare a plan to support our students and school community if, in the future a school closure should happen, and remote learning is required.
A part of this plan requires your feedback, as parents/carers of our students, to understand your circumstances should a school closure occur and what assistance you would require from the school. Please click on the link below to take a short survey to provide the information from you that will inform our planning.
On the Ball …. With the PE Teachers
Interschool Athletics Carnival
A huge congratulations goes out to all of the students who represented Landsdale Primary School at last week’s Interschool Athletics Carnivals. We finished up 2nd out of the 5 schools with plenty of our students covered in ribbons by the end of the week. The students showed great sportsmanship and team spirit, giving their very best effort from start to finish. It was a pleasure to watch.
Runners Club
Congratulations to Ruben H, Linc W & Renae E who have all now reached 100 laps for the Monday Morning Runners Club.

Next term our Summer menu items are back! Fruit bowls we know everyone loves and of course Slushies are back! We have found a number of suppliers have increased prices over the course of the year and we have until now absorbed the costs. But for the Summer menu we will have to make a few minor price adjustments across the menu adjustments and wanted to let our families know.
Qkr will be updated over the school holidays with all returning summer items and we know Sue has been working on a number of new Wednesday Specials too!
Thanks for your support during the term and have a wonderful break over the school holidays.

P&C News
Colour Explosion is here! Student booklets have headed home for our students’ major fundraiser for the year. Not only is this a special event for us as we get to have fun but it’s our way of securing much needed funds to be able to give back to school. With the past COVID years and no fundraising we’d love to be able to help again our teachers with their wishes for 2022. Sign up your profile at the link below:
