4 November 2021

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Families,

Whole School Communication Survey

The school is reviewing its communication strategy and to do this we would like to receive feedback from our community on information that is sent out and received across the school through a number of mediums. Consultation has occurred through the school administration, P&C and Parent Link Program to develop a survey which will provide me with more up to date trends, habits and thoughts from our parent community. This will in turn allow us, as a school, improve our processes for communication.

A survey link will be sent out to all families (one per family) via email. We hope to have this done by either Friday 5th November or Monday 8th November. Please complete the survey by Monday 22nd November 2021.

Motorised Scooters

These are becoming more common and seen around our community. We ask parents to read the information below from the Road Safety Commission about the legalities of riding these on Western Australian roads and pathways. We discourage students bringing these to school, particularly if they fall into the ‘illegal’ category, but also for security issues when it comes to storing these during the day. The school will not take any responsibility for these.

If you purchase a scooter (motorized with an engine capacity of 200watts or more) and it can travel above 10kph then they are illegal to ride in public in W.A. according to the Commission.

“If you purchase a scooter with the higher capacity, and ride it on a public road or path you are essentially riding an unlicensed motor cycle and W.A. Police Force will be watching.”

Read the full article on the Road Safety Commission website: Know the motorised scooter regulations (www.wa.gov.au)

Kind regards,

Josh Jashari

Pop In and Play

Pop in and Play began last week for our new kindergarten students commencing in 2022. The students and their families enjoyed some time together participating in kindergarten activities and familiarising themselves in the kindergarten environment. Students and their families have also had a Storytime session in the library, over 60 families attended, with a large number of families becoming external borrowers and taking out books on loan. Pop in Play will continue for 3 more weeks on a Wednesday afternoon, sessions need to be booked by contacting Jenny Shepherd in the office.

PEAC Testing 2021

All of our year 4 students recently participated in PEAC testing. The testing comprises of 2 tests, one in verbal reasoning and one in mathematical reasoning. We had a small number of students who will be offered a place in PEAC programs next year, congratulations to those students. The school uses the data from the testing to also look at how we can extend those students who also performed well. If you would like further information about the recent testing, please contact me in the office.

1-1 Laptop Program for 2022

Is your child entering Year 4 in 2022 or are you considering purchasing a device for your year 5 or 6 child? Read on!

Our parent funded 1-1 Laptop program ensures our students have the best opportunities to acquire essential skills in digital technologies and STEM for their future. We recognise and value the parents of our senior students’ commitment to their children’s education.

Parents have the option of choosing the MacBook Air M1 or the iPad 10.2” for the program. Teachers, students and our parent representatives all strongly recommended the MacBook as the school’s preferred device.

The response from parents this year continued to be overwhelmingly positive, with 82% of students having their own device, and of those, all but one, were MacBooks.

For 2022 we continue to recommend the MacBook Air as the preferred device, while including the option of the iPad; there is also a leasing option for both devices.

We recommend the MacBook Air over the iPad for the following reasons, the MacBook:

  • is sturdier and has greater longevity, students often using their laptops well into their secondary schooling.
  • has stronger parental controls and Apple applications for teacher supervision of student use.
  • is more powerful and has more features within applications common to both Mac and iPad eg. Pages, Garageband, iMovie, Google Suite and Microsoft office 365.
  • is easier to use for staff and students when accessing tools for learning like the internet, Google Workspace and network resources.
  • has a larger screen and keyboard.

We partner with Winthrop Australia to obtain the best educational prices and onsite technical support. They provide a convenient and easy online portal for you to order a device for your child. If you source a device elsewhere consider the portal information to compare accurately. Visit the Winthrop Portal for more information.

Prior to purchasing a device, please attend one of our parent information sessions for more information and discussion with our 1-1 leadership team:

Please click the link to choose the dates and times you can attend the Information Forums for the 1-1 Program: Forum Dates and Times

Living Sustainably Survey 2021 – from the students in LA27

HELP US CHANGE OUR WORLD - WE NEED MORE RESPONSES TO OUR SURVEY

Dear Everyone,

If you have already filled out our Living Sustainably Survey, thank you. We will be analysing your responses and providing you with some Fact Sheets and information you have indicated you would like.

If you haven’t completed this survey, read on for your chance to help us create a more balanced future ...

Over the past 2 terms, Year 4 students in LA27 at Landsdale Primary School have been collecting responses to a survey that will help humans to live more sustainably in tune with our environment. We got over 66 responses in the 3rd term and we are going to try to aim for up to 100 responses in the last term. We are looking for everyone's future to change from garbage in the environment to a clean, fresh world!

Can YOU help us to create a cleaner, more sustainable future?

https://forms.gle/kNgNtDvpK3X4j6sE6

When you click on the link it will take you to our Google survey form. This will introduce what you could be doing to change the world. There will be 5 different categories and you would need to fill them all out. When you are finished, submit it. This information will go into LA 27’s graph. We will collect the data from all the people who have completed the survey, so we can share some ideas for making our future safer and cleaner.

This information will help to improve the whole world's future if you do the survey. If we do not do this survey, then it will be harder to save the world!

PS: Please send this survey to anyone you know i.e. family and friends.

Thank you.
Kriya, Shivam, Eva and Palash, Year 4, LA 27

P&C News

Congratulations to Kindy class Joey A for taking out the top honours of the first kindy class to have the most online profiles and all enjoyed a quelch icey stick on Tuesday.

Another recap as we head into the last week of Colour Explosion. Student booklets headed home for our students’ major fundraiser for the year. Not only is this a special event for us as we get to have fun but it’s our way of securing much needed funds to be able to give back to school. With the past COVID years and no fundraising we’d love to be able to help again our teachers with their wishes for 2022. Sign up your profile at https://myprofilepage.com.au

You will still need to create a profile to select your prize.

We would love for you to convert your cash to an online deposit if possible, otherwise when returning your cash please do so with the sponsor booklet and in an enclosed envelope/bag with your name & LA number on it and return to the canteen. If you have collected a good amount of cash, please have a parent return with you.

Notes will head home soon with all the details for the colour days and what to do for selecting your prize.

If you would like to help volunteer on the day please text Nat on 0403326828. Places will fill fast so get in quick!

Roadwise Committee

Term 4 - we still have heaps of open spots on the roster. Please can Yr 1-4 parents jump online and put your names down. There are only LESS than 30 spots to fill. This time we have a much wider year group and still its proving hard to find volunteers.

https://signup.zone/landsdaleps-kissndrive

We are still observing parents letting their kids out of the cars from the middle of the road. This is both dangerous and causes unnecessary delays and frustration to other parents who are trying to do the right thing. Please refrain from this practice and use the designated Kiss n Drive or parking spots, before letting your kids out of the car.

Please remember in the afternoons children are only allowed to enter cars number 1, 2 and 3 in the Kiss n Drive bays. Car number 4 must drive right to the front of Kiss n Drive.

Drive safely everyone and don't forget to use your INDICATORS to show your intentions when exiting, entering or turning, all around the school.

Regards,
Darshana
