2 December 2021

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Families,

Week 8 Term 4

Composite Classes/Class Lists for 2022

Last year I produced an information sheet for parents detailing research behind the benefits of composite/split classes. This has been promoted in newsletters since the middle of Term 3 this year. It is inevitable that there will be a number of split classes next year as it will also be inevitable for your child be placed in a split class during their time in primary education. With this in mind please take the time to view this information through the following link:

Your child’s class placement will be texted to you before school commences next year. We anticipate that this will be on Friday 28th January 2022. This is different to previous years where class lists have been placed up around the school on the Friday before school starts. Many schools are now moving to this method which has received positive feedback from parents.

Communication Survey

Thank you to the 167 families/parents who responded to this survey. The data will now be interrogated so that we can develop a more informed approach to our communication strategy across the school.

Written feedback from one of the questions which asked parents to list one improvement to the newsletter included:

  • A number of parents commented that the calendar section could be more accurate and sometimes doesn’t have all the events listed.
  • Other parents indicated they would like a notification via email/message with link to indicate that it is available.
  • More student photos and focus on class events be included.

Parents also indicated that their preferred method of contacting the school administration office is via phone or email. They preferred to receive information through class dojo and/or in person when dropping their child off at school or phone call if they do not drop their child off.

Parents also indicated that they are currently accessing information about our school through

  • Class Dojo
  • Parent Link
  • School Newsletter

Strategic Planning

Our staff have been developing our Draft Business Plan for 2022-2024 over the last two terms and I am pleased to advise that this will be presented to the School Board at our next meeting for their input and discussion. The format of the plan reflects and aligns to the School Review process and sets a number of key targets and milestone that will be achieved over the next three years. Once it is completed and endorsed by the School Board copies will be available on our school website, Schools On Line and through the front office for hard copies.

Christmas Holiday Security

This is always a concern as we have in the past had damage to our property occurring over holiday periods. The school has installed a number of security cameras around the school and have been effective in identifying unwanted visitors. As this is only part of the solution we ask that our community keep a close eye on the school premises.

If you live close to our school and see or hear suspicious behaviour, please immediately contact School Watch Security or the Police.

Who to Contact:
School Watch Security T:1800 177 777
Police T: 131 444

The most important times for you to be vigilant will be during holiday periods as schools are unattended and therefore more vulnerable than usual to crime. Keep in mind that schools are generally large physical areas with multiple “blind spots”. If you hear unusual noises from within a school, such as glass breaking or banging noises, this might mean people are up to no good.

Look for unusual vehicles parked at a school on weekends or during holidays. Watch for groups “hanging around” on school grounds. This should not occur and can be one of the starting points for crime to occur.

We appreciate your support.

Kind regards,

Josh Jashari
Principal

The Library pays an annual subscription to Wheelers ePlatform (the company that administers eBooks & audiobooks on our behalf). Even when the Library is closed, our Wheelers ePlatform is OPEN 24/7!

This year, our students reached some amazing reading milestones. reading goals. To keep the momentum going, students can easily log on to Wheelers ePlatform and keep reading for enjoyment over the whole summer break!

Sharon.Murray@education.wa.edu.au

Fun Facts About Wheelers ePlatform:

* Each student can borrow TWO books at time for a period of TWO weeks (the same lending rules as our physical print Library).
* The borrowed books will automatically disappear from your device and be returned as soon as the due date is reached (No more overdue library books!)
* You can return the book before the due date by pressing the RETURN button.
* You can RESERVE items that are currently out on loan.
* Wheelers ePlatform is a Shared Collection (we share the eBooks & audiobooks with other schools around Australia). This keeps the costs down and allows us to access a wide range of great titles.
* We also purchase our own titles to add to our Private Collection. These titles are for the exclusive use of Landsdale Primary School students.

KEEP READING INTO 2022!

THANK YOU AND MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Student Shines

Taliyah B, Yr6 LA28, won her WABL Under 12’s State Basketball Grand Final game for the Joondalup Wolves Basketball Club this season.

She was also awarded the “Wolfpack Way Award” Trophy for her WABL team.

A week later, Taliyah and her team then won another grand final for her domestic basketball team the Padbury Pumas Basketball Club in the Under 12’s A grade division Winter season.

Winning two basketball grand finals and being awarded the trophy were huge achievements for her and we would like to congratulate Taliyah for her success this year in WABL State Basketball.

Art News …. With Miss Gandy

Students have been busy preparing plywood boards for our Artist in Residence Program. They have painted two coats of paint on each board, front and back, in white and sanded each board surface between each coat. On a Thursday in week 6, mural artist Paul Deej came to Landsdale Primary School. He shared with us how he began his career as an artist and presented a slideshow of some of his artworks. He then guided us through drawing a cartoon style kookaburra! Paul then got to work and drew up our design on the boards.

Since Paul’s visit, we have been painting the mural in a variety of colours. Tyson, our groundsman, will be installing the mural this week. Paul will return in week 9 to add the finishing touches. What an amazing opportunity it has been to work together to create a beautiful piece of art for our school! Well done artists!!!!

Roadwise Committee

Term 4 - we still have heaps of open spots on the roster. Please can Yr 1-4 parents jump online and put your names down. There are only LESS than 30 spots to fill. This time we have a much wider year group and still its proving hard to find volunteers.

https://signup.zone/landsdaleps-kissndrive

We are still observing parents letting their kids out of the cars from the middle of the road. This is both dangerous and causes unnecessary delays and frustration to other parents who are trying to do the right thing. Please refrain from this practice and use the designated Kiss n Drive or parking spots, before letting your kids out of the car.

Please remember in the afternoons children are only allowed to enter cars number 1, 2 and 3 in the Kiss n Drive bays. Car number 4 must drive right to the front of Kiss n Drive.

Drive safely everyone and don't forget to use your INDICATORS to show your intentions when exiting, entering or turning, all around the school.

Regards,
Darshana
