10 March 2022

From the Principal

Dear Parents and families,

COVID UPDATE

Increasing numbers of positive cases have been identified across the Ashdale Cluster of Schools. All schools are working very hard to manage this within their own communities and school-based teams have been working across the weekend and after hours to ensure this is done to the best of their ability. Please note that all schools are required to follow the directions given to it by both the Health Department and Education Department and wearing of mask mandate is not a school-based decision and applies to all indoor spaces in the general community. We should also see this limit the number of ‘close contacts’ being identified within the classroom thus limiting periods of isolation.

As you may also be aware, the State Government has announced that Western Australia will move to very high caseload settings from 12.01am Thursday, 10 March.

We continue to follow the latest WA Health advice.

Under very high caseload setting, students who are asymptomatic (No COVID symptoms) school based close contacts may now:

  • continue attending school;
  • attend before school care or after school care;
  • attend school-based sporting or cultural training, practice, or events organised through the school and held immediately before or after school at their school; and
  • travel between the student’s usual place of residence and their school.

When not at school all asymptomatic close contacts must quarantine for seven days and get tested. As with other close contacts, children who are identified as close contacts should be tested on Day 1 and Day 6 (if a PCR test) or 7 (if a RAT).

Those students who are currently isolating and fit the above criteria i.e. are a close contact to a classmate and are asymptomatic my return to school as of Thursday 10th March.

These arrangements will not apply to children who are ‘household close contacts’ or who are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms.

Students are considered close contacts if they are:

  • A household member of a person with COVID-19 who has had contact with them during their infectious period.

If a member of your household is COVID-19 positive, then the whole household are deemed household close contacts and the testing and isolation protocols apply. If your child is unwell, they should stay at home and get tested.

As always, our priority is to continue face-to-face learning. If your child is required to isolate, we will provide them with learning to do at home. If your child’s teacher is required to isolate, your child may have a different teacher for periods of time. In some cases, we may need to rearrange extra-curricular school activities to ensure our teachers are in classrooms teaching.

For more information on very high caseload protocols, visit wa.gov.au.

Thank you for your understanding as we take the necessary steps to keep our school safe and open for learning.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the school on 9408 3850

South Landsdale Primary School

The population of the suburbs of Darch and Landsdale continue to grow as people make a choice to join the two communities. As you would be aware, there is a new primary school being built in South Landsdale Primary School (planning name) to accommodate the population increase. The school will be located on Trentham Way, Landsdale.

This will have an effect upon the current “Local Intake Area” of Landsdale Primary School.

Landsdale Primary School will undertake the following policy regarding enrolments at Landsdale PS for the beginning of 2023.

  • Existing Landsdale Primary School students, living in the new South Landsdale LIA, have two options
    1. continue to attend Landsdale Primary School until they complete Year Six.
    2. enrol at South Landsdale Primary School
  • Younger siblings of existing students yet to enrol, living in the new South Landsdale LIA, have two options
    1. will be able to attend Landsdale Primary School (provided places are available)
    2. enrol at South Landsdale Primary School

Please note: the new Local Intake Area for South Landsdale Primary School below:

If you have any concerns or questions about present/future enrolments at Landsdale Primary School, please contact the school on 9408 3850 or email Landsdale.PS@education.wa.edu.au

Kind regards,

1-1 Device Program 2022

Thank you to the parents who partner with us and support our program, by purchasing a device for your child you advantage your child, and assist other children, to have access to 1-1 devices. Our program is designed to address the digital divide in education, not all students have access to technology at home, not all schools can fund a device for each student. With a parent funded 1-1 device program, our school can partner with parents, so all students have access and can learn the skills and awareness required in an increasingly digital world. In 2022, we again have successfully achieved this and the Year Four students have begun learning about the ethical and safe use of their devices. The advantages of having a device allocated to each student instead of accessing a bank of shared machines are many:

  • They engage students in new and exciting ways at point of need, which may be different times and purposes for each student.
  • Collaborative activities are richer, combining online, face to face and group collaborations. It assists in gathering data and evidence of learning for each individual and provides shyer, quieter students a way to interact with others more comfortably.
  • Teachers can provide differentiated instruction for students more easily and students can go at their own pace and direction in learning without worry or delays. They also don’t have to rush to finish an assignment so they can hand the device to another student.
  • The demand for digital skills in all areas of society are increasing. Our program teaches essential skills to our students, which are an advantage when moving to secondary schooling and future careers. Our students are well prepared for extension and specialist programs in many different learning areas, all of which have a digital element (even sport!).
  • The students’ use at school is monitored more easily and we explicitly teach responsibility for the device as well as an essential awareness of an online environment and how to stay safe and appropriate.
  • The COVID-19 pandemic has put hygiene at the front of everyone’s mind. Shared devices increase the risk of transference of germs. All devices need to be cleaned regularly however with each student having a device allocated or belonging to them it reduces the concern.

While we use the devices at point of need, it doesn’t mean that they should, or are, used all the time. Many lessons are device free, and many combine the integration of strategies both non-digital and digital during the learning sequence.

With many competing needs during difficult times recently, it is understandable for parents to consider the costs involved. Our program recommends the Macbook for it’s longevity and robust design and is an investment for a minimum of 3 years with it usually being used through most of the students secondary schooling. The iPad is a less costly and effective choice for parents in our program, as the applications used in school are on both the iPad and the Macbook. We also ensure that all students will have a device either Macbook or iPad if they don’t have their own, through the school owned devices.

This year has been difficult to assist the parents of the Year 4 students who purchased a device with our usual Macbook Parent Workshop due to COVID-19 considerations. Please visit our website to find information about the program and the Apple Support site is very useful for how to use the basic functions of the Macbook.

As parents are our partners in this program, we need to know your thoughts and ideas regarding the program. Please use this link to take a short survey:

Kiss & Drive Announcement

Last year we embarked on a new challenge and we nailed it! The new roster for the Kiss N Drive Program worked so amazingly well and we are continuing the program into 2022.

Each term has been designated year groups for parents to volunteer for a session to help Kiss N Drive on that afternoon. Parents are able to forward plan their session into the year and change as required. The roster updates in real time which makes changes immediate ultimately allowing for the roster to look after itself. A link to the roster is below. The Roadwise Committee will do the first week of each term as we return to school. It’s in this week each Thursday will double as a training session for those who wish to see how easy it is before you do your own.

As a thank you we will raffle the names on roster at the end of each term to win one of two $10 vouchers for the canteen and don’t forget you also have the use of a staff car park on the day you volunteer for Kiss N Drive. If you find it as easy as you thought it would be, roster in for a second or third session for more entries into the draw!!

This was Kiss N Drive’s first major change to how it’s been run in the school’s 24 year history. The committee was so excited to see this come to fruition after much planning and to have it be so successful was an extra win.

Now it’s over to the parents of 2022 to help even Just Once to make it a success.

Contact our Roadwise Coordinator for any questions on lpspandcroadwise@gmail.com

Now it’s up to all of us! Please help us to spread the word by sharing and talking to each other about the roster. Parent Link will help to remind year groups through the year to communicate this to all our families as well. Let’s get 2022 off to a great start with our year 2 & 6 parents up first for term 1.
