7 April 2022

From the Principal

Dear Parents and families,

Our New Business Plan 2022-2024

Our Business Plan focuses on:

  • Developing Successful Students
  • Working Together and
  • Wellbeing

These are embedded under six main headings within the plan:

  • Teaching Quality
  • Student Achievement and progress
  • Learning Environment
  • Relationships and Partnerships
  • Leadership
  • Resources

I am very pleased to announce that our Business Plan has been endorsed by our School Board at our last meeting on Monday 28th March. This has been the result of a lot of reflection and data analysis over the last six months by our staff, the administration team and of course our School Board. The staff and the School Board will use the Business plan to monitor and reflect on the school’s performance and planning over the next few years.

For a review of our achievements during 2021 please keep a look out for our Annual Report 2021 which will become available on-line mid-next term. It will give an overview of our progress towards meeting our targets as well as some analysis of data. We use this information to support and develop plans for improvement. The Annual Report is usually due at the end of Term 1 however has been delayed until mid-next term due to COVID.

COVID 19

We have almost all classes being affected this term along with a number of staff members. This has led to quite a number of operational changes that we have had to implement. I am amazed and grateful for the wonderful support of our families in this current climate, especially when parents are prompt in collecting and testing their children when they have been notified of them becoming close contacts. I would also like to acknowledge our staff for their commitment in wanting to ensure our students were experiencing as much normality in their learning as possible. Many have opted (voluntarily) to be on the ‘Critical Worker List’ rather than isolate as a close contact. They did this in order to ensure continuity of learning for their classes and we thank them for their dedication.

Next term will see some easing of restrictions at the school level, although most of what was announced last week is already in place in schools in terms of being on site.

As from next term parents can:

  • Have face to face meetings with the teacher (provided both teacher and parent are wearing a mask and Physical distancing requirements are met)
  • P&C and School Board can meet on site (mask must be worn and physical distancing requirements are met)
  • Special Events parents are able to be on site as spectators (masks must be worn and physical distancing requirements are met)
  • Assemblies as these are still subject to quite a number special conditions it will be some time before we can make a decision on when or how these will go ahead. If they are to be re-introduced they may well look quite different to our traditional assemblies.
  • Parents/Guardians are still not allowed in the classrooms
  • It is still a requirement for parents and visitors to wear a mask whilst on the school site.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all families a wonderful holiday, and our students and staff a relaxing and refreshing holiday break. I think we all need a good break and I look forward to Term 2 commencing on Tuesday 26 April.

Parking around Saint Helens Grove

The school has had a number of requests from the residence of Saint Helens Grove area to ask parents not to park on verges and be mindful of speed in this built-up area. Please avoid parking on the entrance and exit roads to this estate as this can cause dangerous conditions for students and other pedestrians. City of Wanneroo Rangers have been notified of the issue.

Kind regards,

Josh Jashari
Principal

Welcome to Bilingual Families Perth

Bilingual Families Perth is a not-for-profit network of linguistically diverse people in Western Australia.

Our network connects over 500 families and individuals from more than 40 language backgrounds. In the past 10 years we have provided support for families who speak Afrikaans, Bengali, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Cantonese, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Farsi, Finnish, French, German, Gujarati, Greek, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Macedonian, Malay, Malayalam, Mandarin, Mongolian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Samoan, Serbian, Spanish, Swahili, Swiss-German, Swedish, Tagalog, Tamil, Turkish, Vietnamese besides various dialects of the relevant languages.

Most families have pre-school or school-aged children and we are experiencing similar issues while raising our children in more than one language. We also work together with professionals who share information on bilingualism and multilingualism. We can probably put you in touch with people who speak your language.

We are back! Mother’s Day Stall is on this year – Thursday 5th May (and Tuesday 3rd May for Kindy A rotation). We are very excited about the Stall this year and we know how much the kids love coming to do a bit of ‘shopping’, so make sure students bring along $5 to buy your Mum, Caregiver or special lady in your life a lovely gift for Mother’s Day. We will also have cards this year for $1.00 (Limited Stock).

We are also still looking for volunteers to help on the day, if you’re interested, check out this sign up zone -

Kiss & Drive Announcement

Last year we embarked on a new challenge and we nailed it! The new roster for the Kiss N Drive Program worked so amazingly well and we are continuing the program into 2022.

Each term has been designated year groups for parents to volunteer for a session to help Kiss N Drive on that afternoon. Parents are able to forward plan their session into the year and change as required. The roster updates in real time which makes changes immediate ultimately allowing for the roster to look after itself. A link to the roster is below. The Roadwise Committee will do the first week of each term as we return to school. It’s in this week each Thursday will double as a training session for those who wish to see how easy it is before you do your own.

As a thank you we will raffle the names on roster at the end of each term to win one of two $10 vouchers for the canteen and don’t forget you also have the use of a staff car park on the day you volunteer for Kiss N Drive. If you find it as easy as you thought it would be, roster in for a second or third session for more entries into the draw!!

This was Kiss N Drive’s first major change to how it’s been run in the school’s 24 year history. The committee was so excited to see this come to fruition after much planning and to have it be so successful was an extra win.

Now it’s over to the parents of 2022 to help even Just Once to make it a success.

Contact our Roadwise Coordinator for any questions on lpspandcroadwise@gmail.com

Now it’s up to all of us! Please help us to spread the word by sharing and talking to each other about the roster. Parent Link will help to remind year groups through the year to communicate this to all our families as well. Term 2 will be our year 1 and 5 parents, so please click on the link to have a turn.
