From the Principal

Dear Parents and families,

Week 4 Term 2

The State Government has issued 10 million free RAT tests for distribution to our students and families. This equates to 20 tests per student. Many of our families have already picked these up from our front office. If you have not collected your allocation please do so as soon as possible.

Over the last week we have seen a spike in the number of staff testing positive to COVID. With the limited number of relief teachers and the uncertainty of their availability we are having to make a number of changes to our timetables (Support and Specialist) to ensure we have teaching staff allocated to classrooms. A huge thank you to all our staff for their flexibility and support while we manage our way through this time and for focusing on continuing the learning in our classrooms.

I ask that we all stay vigilant and exercise good health practices. Please support the school by keeping your child home if they are unwell especially if they have any cold and flu symptoms.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN testing began for Year 3 and Year 5 last week. The NAPLAN testing was on-line except for the Year 3 Writing Assessment. In these Challenging times, we are doing our best to catch up with any students who may have missed their assessments during the set testing period.

P&C

Mothers Day Stall: Thank you to the P&C and in particular Mel Fuller and her team of parents for organising the opportunity for our students to purchase presents for their mums. This has helped make Mothers Day a very special event for many.

School Wish List: The school is very grateful for the approval of funding ($8,875) for a number of projects. These were agreed to at our very well attended P&C Meeting last week. Some of the approvals included Sunscreen for classes, ribbons/medals for our Faction Carnival, Year 6 Camp subsidy, Year 6 Graduation Prize, Intentional Play Resources and Giant Connect 4 Games for our Library. We are also excited for the approval of funds for our Art Specialist to work with classes and have games painted on our paving around the school for students to play on during recess and lunch breaks.

Voluntary Contributions 2022

A very big thank you to all parents who have paid their contributions and charges. This funding supports the purchase of school resources for all learning areas as well as the library. I encourage parents to support the school by ensuring these are paid.

For your convenience, payments can be made via Qkr!, EFTPOS, cash, cheque and Direct debit. The details for direct debit are: BSB 066-132 Account: 10249789 (Students Full Name must be included in the reference).

Kind regards,

Josh Jashari
Principal

Premier’s Reading Challenge 2022

Join the adventure! We encourage you to join us in unlocking the wonderful world of reading for your children. Help them to join the Premier’s Reading Challenge. Will they fly above the clouds, dive into the ocean or jump into a rocket ship? All students from Kindergarten to Year 10 are challenged to read 12 books by Friday 9th September 2022.

You can help your children sign up via the website, choose their own avatar and log all the books they read over the course of the Challenge. Weekly prizes will be awarded to students who log a book that week, with major prizes drawn when the Challenge ends.

Books don’t have to be in English – children are encouraged to read books in their first language. There are extraordinary tourism prizes to be won each week.

Sign up your children on the Premier’s Reading Challenge website to begin their magical journey.

EALD Family Resources Information

Welcome to Bilingual Families Perth

Bilingual Families Perth is a not-for-profit network of linguistically diverse people in Western Australia.

Our network connects over 500 families and individuals from more than 40 language backgrounds. In the past 10 years we have provided support for families who speak Afrikaans, Bengali, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Cantonese, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Farsi, Finnish, French, German, Gujarati, Greek, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Macedonian, Malay, Malayalam, Mandarin, Mongolian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Samoan, Serbian, Spanish, Swahili, Swiss-German, Swedish, Tagalog, Tamil, Turkish, Vietnamese besides various dialects of the relevant languages.

Most families have pre-school or school-aged children and we are experiencing similar issues while raising our children in more than one language. We also work together with professionals who share information on bilingualism and multilingualism. We can probably put you in touch with people who speak your language.

Roadwise News

National Walk Safely To School Day - Friday 20th May 2022

National Walk Safely to School Day (WSTSD) is an annual event when parents and carers are encouraged to walk their children to school, help them develop the vital road-crossing skills* and reinforce safe pedestrian behaviour.

Walking to school at an early age helps create regular walking habits, promotes health and reduce the car dependency habits which are difficult to change as children become adults. If you choose to walk to school or use public transport you help to reduce the level of traffic congestion and air-pollution created by motor vehicles.

So let’s all put on our walking shoes on Friday, 20th May and walk to school with the aim of building it into our daily routine. If you can’t walk all the way combine it with public transport or if you must use the car try leaving it a good distance from the school.

*Until they’re 10 children must always hold an adult’s hand when crossing the road.

Kiss & Drive Announcement

After having remarkable success in 2021 with the new rostering system for our Kiss N Drive Program, we are continuing the program into 2022 and kicked off Term 1 with a bang!

Each Term has designated year groups for parents to volunteer for a session to help Kiss N Drive on that afternoon. Parents can forward plan their session into the year and change as required. The roster updates in real time which makes changes immediate thus allowing the roster to look after itself. A link to the roster is below.

As a thank you at the end of each term a raffle will be drawn to win one of two $10 vouchers to be redeemed at our fabulous canteen. Each time you volunteer, you gain an entry into the draw. And do not forget, you also have the use of a staff car park on the day you volunteer for Kiss N Drive.

Finally, a big Thank you to all the parents of Years 2 and 6 that contributed to the safe and smooth running of Kiss N Drive in Term 1 of 2022 and congratulations to Rebecca and Deanne each of whom are the winners of a $10 canteen voucher, woot, woot!

Over to the parents of Years 1 and 5 to make Term 2 a success. Sign up using the following link:

Want to volunteer but unsure of what is involved? Drop us an email to join us for a training session to see how easy it is!
