From the Principal
Dear Parents and families,
Reporting Changes for Semester 1.
As you are aware, COVID-19 continues to impact our school community and has presented us with challenges in managing both student and staff attendance. I am pleased that together, we have been able to make the best of this situation and ensure your child’s continued learning.
As we navigate through these challenges, we will need to do some things differently to ensure our focus remains on your child’s daily learning program. For this reason and with the support of the Department of Education, Semester 1 reporting will look a little different to what we shared with you at the start of the year.
Schools in the Ashdale Cluster (Madeley PS, Ashdale PS and Landsdale PS) have agreed to the following. The report will include the A to E grades for required learning areas. Information regarding your child’s attitude, behavior and effort will continue to be reported. Our schools will adjust the extent to which comments are provided and will only provide a general comment for your child. Should you wish for additional information on your child’s progress, please feel free to discuss this with your child’s teacher.
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement as we work together to provide the best learning opportunities for our students. As we progress, I’ll be sure to keep you updated with any new information.
WA Day Public Holiday
WA Day commemorates the foundation of the Swan River Colony near Perth by settlers in 1829.
It was previously known as Foundation Day but the name was changed in 2012 to recognise the much longer history of the Aboriginal people of the land.
Originally Albany, on the south coast, was to be the capital of WA but better resources for shipping and farming were found on the Swan River so Perth became the capital.
WA was settled as a free colony, unlike some other parts of Australia like New South Wales and Port Arthur. It was the only British colony in Australia established with land grants to settlers. The settlers were given land in proportion to the quantity of people and goods they brought to the colony and were only given the full title to their land when it had been improved enough to be considered established and sustaining. (WA Day website)
STEM
A huge thank you to Mrs McLoughlin who has organised the participation of Landsdale Primary School in the West Australian STEM Cash Competition during Term One. This competition required students to collect coupons from the local newspaper each week for four weeks. We greatly appreciate the efforts of everyone who contributed and especially to our STEM extension groups who spent their time cutting out hundreds of coupons!
In total, we received 604 coupons and as a result, we were fortunate enough to win $1250 to go towards our STEM program. Mrs McLoughlin indicated that these funds can now be used for classroom or whole-school resources, STEM clubs, incursions, excursions, teacher development, or whatever our school needs to take the students’ STEM learning to the next level.
Trampoline
Our trampoline has taken a long while to be re-established after being damaged last year. It is now located at the back of the school library (right under one of our security cameras) and is available for student use. A year level daily timetable has been developed and came into operation on Tuesday this week with our Year 4 being the first ones in the school to use it.
Kind regards,
Josh Jashari

Welcome to Bilingual Families Perth
Bilingual Families Perth is a not-for-profit network of linguistically diverse people in Western Australia.
Our network connects over 500 families and individuals from more than 40 language backgrounds. In the past 10 years we have provided support for families who speak Afrikaans, Bengali, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Cantonese, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Farsi, Finnish, French, German, Gujarati, Greek, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Macedonian, Malay, Malayalam, Mandarin, Mongolian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Samoan, Serbian, Spanish, Swahili, Swiss-German, Swedish, Tagalog, Tamil, Turkish, Vietnamese besides various dialects of the relevant languages.
Most families have pre-school or school-aged children and we are experiencing similar issues while raising our children in more than one language. We also work together with professionals who share information on bilingualism and multilingualism. We can probably put you in touch with people who speak your language.

The roster updates in real time which makes changes immediate thus allowing the roster to look after itself. A link to the roster is below.
As a thank you at the end of each term a raffle will be drawn to win one of two $10 vouchers to be redeemed at our fabulous canteen. Each time you volunteer, you gain an entry into the draw. And do not forget, you also have the use of a staff car park on the day you volunteer for Kiss N Drive.
