COVID Update
Last week I sent out a joint signed letter by Western Australian public, Catholic and Independent school Director Generals who are working together to provide COVID-safe measures across all schools to keep our students, staff and community safe.
As infections are rising I would like to highlight some key messages in this letter:
We are also encouraging our school community to be COVID-19 safe by:
- Wearing a mask indoors when visiting the school
- Ensuring your family stays up-to-date with COVID-19 and flu vaccines
- Testing your child for COVID-19 if they have symptoms or are a household close contact
- Keeping your child home if they are unwell
- Maintain good hand hygiene.
Parents again will be receiving more free Rapid Antigen Tests. We will notify you when these arrive and can be collected.
The National Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)
NCCD is an annual, compulsory collection of data that counts the number of school students with a disability and the adjustments that those students are receiving. All schools across Australia collect this data. The data collection aims to enable schools, education authorities and governments to gain a complete understanding of students who are receiving adjustments because of a disability in schools, and how best to support them. All students are entitled to a quality learning experience at school. Schools are required to make reasonable adjustments, where needed, to assist students with a disability at access and participate in education free from discrimination and on the same basis as other students. Protecting the privacy and confidentiality of all students and their families is essential. Personal details are not provided. Landsdale PS is completing the NCCD as part of semester two census in week 3.
For further information please contact the school.
Workforce Update
Teaching Pool 2023 advertised: The school has advertised for teaching positions that may become available during 2023. This is currently ‘live’ on the WA Government Jobs Website and will close on Monday 1st August. A school panel will be formed to process the application and develop a pool of suitable applicants for our school.
Compass
Our school is in the process of moving into a new whole school Online Management System (Compass). The system will have 35 modules available which are divided into the following headings:
Student Administration
Parent Communication
Learning Management and Wellbeing
Finance and Payments
Functions such as attendance and roll marking, SMS, email, push notifications, staff-to-parent chat, school fee payments, event ticketing, photo ordering, canteen ordering, reporting, up to date whole school calendar etc will be available along with a host of other school operation processes.
The Compass System will be a one stop shop that will service all the management needs of the school. Parents will have access to relevant aspects of the system through an app which can be downloaded onto their phone.
The transition into this new system will be done very slowly and is not expected to be fully functional until later next year. Staff are using some aspects of the system this year to familiarise themselves.
Kind Regards,
Josh Jashari

URSTRONG Launch Day
Week 3, Friday 5th August 2022
We are excited to announce that Landsdale Primary School is launching a new student well-being and friendship program called, URSTRONG.
URSTRONG is an internationally-recognised friendship program that empowers students with the skills, language, and self-confidence to be better friends and develop healthier relationships. Current research clearly shows that children with healthy friendships perform better academically, have higher self-esteem, a more positive body image, get involved in more leadership roles, and make better decisions in future relationships.
UR Strong covers:
- Building self-worth
- Bullying prevention
- Increasing resilience in our students
- Conflict resolution
- Creating a school culture of kindness
- Healthy relationships and friendships
Students are able to come to school on the launch day dressed as a ninja or a superhero. Please have your child leave any swords, weapons, ninja stars etc, at home. There will be no donations taken on this day. This is purely a day to have all students involved in the launch of our exciting new program.
At school, on the launch day, students will also be able to nominate a ‘Friendship Ninja’ to enter a raffle. A ‘Friendship Ninja’ is someone who surrounds themselves with friends in the healthy zone of the Friend-o-Meter. A Friendship Ninja is also kind and friendly to everyone.
Please also keep an eye out, later this term, for information regarding Parent Sessions where parents can begin to use the language of URSTRONG at home, along with strategies to assist when helping your child through ‘Friendship Fires.’

Thank you,
Mrs Paplinski and Mrs O'Dea

Welcome to Bilingual Families Perth
Bilingual Families Perth is a not-for-profit network of linguistically diverse people in Western Australia.
Our network connects over 500 families and individuals from more than 40 language backgrounds. In the past 10 years we have provided support for families who speak Afrikaans, Bengali, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Cantonese, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Farsi, Finnish, French, German, Gujarati, Greek, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Macedonian, Malay, Malayalam, Mandarin, Mongolian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Samoan, Serbian, Spanish, Swahili, Swiss-German, Swedish, Tagalog, Tamil, Turkish, Vietnamese besides various dialects of the relevant languages.
Most families have pre-school or school-aged children and we are experiencing similar issues while raising our children in more than one language. We also work together with professionals who share information on bilingualism and multilingualism. We can probably put you in touch with people who speak your language.
