From the Principal
COVID Reminder:
We are encouraging our school community to be COVID-19 safe by:
- Wearing a mask indoors when visiting the school
- Ensuring your family stays up-to-date with COVID-19 and flu vaccines
- Testing your child for COVID-19 if they have symptoms or are a household close contact
- Keeping your child home if they are unwell
- Maintain good hand hygiene.
Free Rapid Antigen Tests: These have arrived at the school and are being distributed out to families. If you have not received a box of twenty tests (per child) please collect them from our front office.
Cyber Safety Sessions: Paul Litherland
Paul Litherland has visited our school every year over the last three years. Paul is regarded as one of Australia’s leading key note speakers on Internet Awareness. Paul has had coalface experience working in the Technology Crime Investigation Unit of the WA Police Force. He is able to provide our students with up to date technically relevant knowledge about interacting online safely and being more aware of the information that is being given to so called on-line ‘friends’. He is able to engage our students using real life stories, being non-judgemental and honest with our students. He has up to date knowledge of what is trending online and what to look out for when using some of these apps. Paul will be speaking to our senior students next Thursday August 18, 9am to 10am.
Parent Session: As part of the Ashdale Cluster of School’s focus on Student Wellbeing Paul will hold a session for parents next Monday 15th August between 6pm and 7:30pm at Ashdale College. This is a really good opportunity to gain relevant information on how to support your child being responsible and more aware of the online environment both at home and at school. I would strongly recommend all parents to attend this presentation.

Class Placement Request 2023
The school is now planning for classes and class structure for the 2023 school year. As you would imagine it is very difficult to predict enrolment numbers this far out from the beginning of next year.
Landsdale Primary School ensures classes are formed in such a way as to best meet the needs of its students. The school spends a considerable amount of time creating its class lists which is based upon the professional judgements by staff with the aim of creating the best learning environment for each student. All factors are considered when making these judgements. The best interest of all students is paramount when making placement decisions.
Parents and carers may request a specific class placement through providing the school with educational reasoning behind this request. This may be in the form of specific information about their child’s learning needs that they believe the school may not be aware of. Such information would not include any requests regarding a particular individual teacher. Please be aware that all requests may be considered but not automatically accommodated. Please email Mrs Tania Burke (tania.burke@education.wa.edu.au) or send a letter marked ‘Private and Confidential’ to Mrs Burke by Friday 28th October 2022.
Class lists will be formed and then reviewed by all staff. They will then be submitted to the Executive Team for further review. Following this any change to class placement will only be made in exceptional circumstances, however this tends to be extremely rare.
Composite/Split Classes 2023
We are currently taking enrolments for 2023. I am pleased to say at this point we predict that our overall numbers will be similar to those of this year. We have also been making predictions on the structure of classes across the rest of the school for 2023. We have no doubt, and as is the case in almost all schools, that we will have split or composite classes occurring. The number of these will be very reliant on the enrolment numbers gained during the first week of school. Until then we can only make predictions on what we think the numbers will be. We take into consideration the school’s past enrolment history, information supplied to us by 2022 families who may be leaving or entering the school, the number of building activity within the school’s intake area and information that is supplied to us through the Department of Education. This information is then assessed and we make predictions on the number of classes and class structure throughout the school. We develop three scenarios of these class structures. During Term 4 of this year we will be organising our staffing to ensure we have these scenarios catered for. This is not only for teaching staff but also our support staff.
I have produced an information sheet for parents detailing research behind the benefits of composite/split classes. Please view this through the following link:
Kind Regards,

Art News …. With Ms Gandy
During term 2, the year 5 students created a Lost Thing based on the book by author and artist, Shaun Tan. After reading the book and watching the short film, students collected some recyclable materials from home, such as plastic bottles, empty food boxes and various other product containers. They designed their lost thing, used paper mache to cover and hide joins, then painted it using metal colours that represented metals. The final touch was to dry brush metallic paint over corners and surfaces to give it a tarnished look. They have been put on display in the library and the art room and look amazing!! Well done LA 14 and LA 15.

Also in Term 2, all students made a contribution to a collaborative artwork for Reconciliation week (27th May- 3rd June). Each student painted a jumbo popstick with symbols and colours that represents our first nation people using acrylic paints and paint pens.
The artwork has been installed in the office and follows the theme, Be Brave, Make Change. Please take a closer look at this artwork if you are in the office. Our LPS artists are awesome!

Welcome to Bilingual Families Perth
Bilingual Families Perth is a not-for-profit network of linguistically diverse people in Western Australia.
Our network connects over 500 families and individuals from more than 40 language backgrounds. In the past 10 years we have provided support for families who speak Afrikaans, Bengali, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Cantonese, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Farsi, Finnish, French, German, Gujarati, Greek, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Macedonian, Malay, Malayalam, Mandarin, Mongolian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Samoan, Serbian, Spanish, Swahili, Swiss-German, Swedish, Tagalog, Tamil, Turkish, Vietnamese besides various dialects of the relevant languages.
Most families have pre-school or school-aged children and we are experiencing similar issues while raising our children in more than one language. We also work together with professionals who share information on bilingualism and multilingualism. We can probably put you in touch with people who speak your language.
