20 October 2022

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome back to Term 4 and as usual it will be jam packed with exciting activities for our students. These will include:

  • Year 6 Camp
  • School Development Day this week
  • Book Fair during week 4
  • P&C Colour Explosion in Week 5
  • Swimming from week 7-week 10.
  • Graduation during the last week of term.

Staff will also be busy writing reports and attending after school meetings which will include strategic reviews related to progressing our current Business Plan along with data analysis and forward planning for 2023 and beyond.

Long Service Leave

I will be taking Long Service Leave as of the end of week 3 until the end of the year. Mrs Bracegirdle will be A/Principal in my absence. Mrs Kristen Bunn will be A/Deputy Principal backfilling Mrs Bracegirdle’s position. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our community for the tremendous support the school has experienced so far this year and wish you all a wonderful lead up to the end of year. I would particularly like to wish our Year 6 students all the very best and wish them well with their journey into high school.

Year 6 Camp

I have no doubt from the feedback I received from the Year 6 students that they thoroughly enjoyed their time on their day camp activities. I was impressed with the recounts of challenging activities they undertook, and the self-confidence developed by the students in meeting these challenges- I was also told the lunches were ‘awesome’ as well.

If you have planned holidays and will be returning to Landsdale Primary School AFTER school has commenced (1/2/2023) you are required to advise the front office in writing. Please call into the office or email jennifer.shepherd@education.wa.edu.au

BYOD iPad/MacBook Program

In Term 4 we are undertaking many preparations for next year, to ensure that the start of 2023 is a positive one for students, parents and staff.

One of the exciting things for the students going into Year 4 in 2023 is the BYOD iPad/MacBook Program. Parents are invited to purchase an iPad or MacBook for their child to enhance their learning experience both at school and at home. Our program has transformed the teaching and learning pedagogy, enabling teachers to implement highly refined, engaging and individual programs through the use of student devices and a broad range of high impact instructional strategies.

We would like to provide more information about the details and efficacy of the program to parents of our Year 3 students at our Parent BYOD Information Forums. We also invite any parents from other year levels who would like to attend. We have 3 Forums this term, all to be held in the Library:

Thursday 27th Oct @ 4pm-5pm
Friday 18th Nov @ 8am-8.45am
Monday 5th Dec @ 4.30pm-5.30pm

An information booklet containing all the relevant information is available on the website. The forums enable you to ask clarifying questions and see how students are using the devices.

In the past 10 years we have provided support for families who speak Afrikaans, Bengali, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Cantonese, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Farsi, Finnish, French, German, Gujarati, Greek, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Macedonian, Malay, Malayalam, Mandarin, Mongolian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Samoan, Serbian, Spanish, Swahili, Swiss-German, Swedish, Tagalog, Tamil, Turkish, Vietnamese besides various dialects of the relevant languages.

Most families have pre-school or school-aged children and we are experiencing similar issues while raising our children in more than one language. We also work together with professionals who share information on bilingualism and multilingualism. We can probably put you in touch with people who speak your language.
