From the Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Many thanks to the P&C for running the Bookfair and Colour Explosion. It was wonderful to see so many parents and students enjoying these events.
The year 6 students are running market stalls this Tuesday as part of their learning in HASS. These stalls give the students the opportunity for real world learning in a practical application.
There are a few weeks until the end of the year, I would like to remind families of continuing to follow our school uniform policy, particularly in regard to wearing jewellery and non-uniform hats.
The DoE recently announced 2 initiatives which will start in 2023. The new supports are going to strengthen quality teaching in the classroom. The first is the Quality Teacher Strategy and the second is the Phonics Initiative. The Quality Teacher Strategy will lead schools to maximise the impact of high-quality teaching on student achievement and progress. The Phonics Initiative will see all year 1 students be assessed in phonics. The data will used to identify students developing foundation literacy skills and inform future teaching, learning and interventions for students.
Last term the students in year 5 & 6 completed the Wellness Engagement Census (WEC) the data is beginning to show an upward trend in some areas, this is a pleasing result. One of the contributing factors is the UR STRONG program and staff having an intentional focus on student health and wellbeing. The students in year 2-4 will shortly be doing Rumbles Quest, which also looks at wellness and engagement. It’s never too early or late to learn some lessons about our wellbeing and happiness.
Have a fabulous week.
Kind Regards,
Natalie Bracegirdle

BYOD Ipad/MacBook Program
This term, we are undertaking many preparations for next year to ensure that the start of 2023 is a positive one for students, parents and staff.
One of the exciting things for the students going into Year 4 in 2023 is the BYOD iPad/MacBook Program. Parents are invited to purchase an iPad or MacBook for their child to enhance their learning experience both at school and at home. Our program has transformed the teaching and learning pedagogy, enabling teachers to implement highly refined, engaging and individual programs through the use of student devices and a broad range of high impact instructional strategies.
We would like to provide more information about the details and efficacy of the program to parents of our Year 3 students at our Parent BYOD Information Forums. We also invite any parents from other year levels who would like to attend. Thank you to the parents who came to the first Parent Information Forum, their feedback was that it was valuable for them to see how teachers use the devices in the class and to have all their questions answered regarding the details of the program. We have 2 Forums still to come this term, both to be held in the Library:
Friday 18th Nov @ 8am-8.45am
Monday 5th Dec @ 4.30pm-5.30pm
An information booklet containing all the relevant information is being sent home this week to all Year 3 students’ families and will also be available on the website. The forums will enable you to ask clarifying questions and see how students are using the devices.
2023 Kindergarten Enrolments
Please see the front office urgently if you still wish to enrol for Kindergarten next year as there are limited places left.
Travelling Overseas/Extended Christmas Holidays
If you have planned holidays and will be returning to Landsdale Primary School AFTER school has commenced (1/2/2023) you are required to advise the front office in writing. Please call into the office or email jennifer.shepherd@education.wa.edu.au.
Students Not Returning to LPS in 2023
If your child(ren) will NOT be attending Landsdale Primary School in 2023 can you please advise the front office in person, or email Jennifer.shepherd@education.wa.edu.au.
Sports News … with Mr Baggio and Mr Brown
Congratulations to Peter D for achieving a massive 300 laps in the Monday Running Club.
LA27 Incursion Recount – Worms, Compost & Growing Vegetables

On Friday, the 16th of September, my class (LA 27 Year 3 Landsdale Primary School - L.P.S) and LA 22 Year 3/4 had an incursion with a lady named Peg, Mrs Marrion and Mrs Bin Salleh. The incursion had two hours and the first hour was about the worm farms and the second hour was about vegetable beds and compost bins (not the ones that roll).
Firstly, Peg talked about the worms and showed us ridiculous posters of worms! Peg told us some facts about worms and told us what A.D.A.M meant. I learned in that hour that worms need a cool cover over them and that they can only eat things that were alive, but they can’t eat rubber or plastic. We also got to feel the worms that Peg put out. I thought the worms were ticklish and slimy. I saw a worm with something called a ‘saddle’ and I was lucky enough to see a baby worm and an egg!
After that, we learned about compost and we made a ’cake’ in the vegetable beds. The ‘ingredients’ we used were hot grass, clippings from the lawn mower, coffee grounds, paper torn strips and mulch for ‘icing’. When we put each of these layers, we added water before we added the next layer of the ‘cake’.
Later, we made compost with the standing bins. Some of the year 5’s from a different class dug a barrier around the standing compost bins so the rats would not get in. To get it started, we added sticks, some bark and water. Then we started turning the material inside the bins with these special turners so it would have some air. Peg taught us what A.D.A.M meant which stands for A = air, D = diverse, A = alive and M = moisture.
Lastly, I think that was the most fabulous learning experience I ever had, and it will be a day I will never ever in my life forget. I think my class and I are on our journey to making the world a better place to live by stopping global warming, avoiding putting plastic in our pristine oceans and stop killing our food chain or all our animals will be gone and it will mean we will also be gone. Then everything on Planet Earth will be killed.
Special Thanks to Peg for helping us on the journey to a better Planet Earth and teaching us all these wonderful and fabulous things.

Thank You for Supporting the Book Fair
Book Fair 2022 was a huge success! Thank you to all our students, parents and staff who supported the Book Fair. It’s such an exciting event on our school calendar. The kids absolutely love it! We would like to thank our amazing Book Fair Co-ordinator, Ms Mel Fuller, who did a brilliant job planning, organising and running the Book Fair. Mel has filled this role at Landsdale PS for many years now and we are so grateful for her contribution. This is her last year at LPS and we thank her for her dedication to all things Book Fair over so many years. Thank you also to Mrs Sonya March and all the other parent and grandparent volunteers who made this event so successful. During the week, $10,563.94 worth of books, posters and novelty items were sold. This means that the Library has received $3,302 worth of commission books! Many of these titles have already been accessioned and are now being borrowed by students, staff and parents. The remainder of the funds will be used to purchase new books until the end of this year and into 2023. Thank you, everyone!
Closing Date for Library Loans
The final date for return of all library books is Friday 2nd December (Week 8). As we have swimming in the final weeks of the year, it is important that students return their library books prior to their swimming sessions. Parent loans are also due back by Friday 2nd December.
