9 February 2023

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome back to 2023. I’m excited to be back.

The staff have been working hard over the last week preparing learning environments, planning for term 1 and collaborating to ensure that every student in every classroom matters every day.

I would like to welcome new staff to Landsdale Primary School;

Natasha Atifi – PP
Jessie Toms - year 4
Grainne Hamill - year 5
Peter Axton - year 6
Virginia Everall - year 6
Andrew Rhodes - year 6
Joseph Smart –Science
Grace Gouldstone -Languages
Nileshree Halai - support staff
Julie Phayakh - support staff
Tegan Zammit - support staff
Gina Langworthy – School Psychologist for term 1

This term the process will be run for the appointment of a new principal. The successful applicant will be starting at the beginning of term 2.

Parent Information Sessions

Over the next 2 weeks parents are invited to attend parent information sessions run by the staff. The sessions will outline the expectations for the year, timetables, class agreements and provide an opportunity to meet other parents in your class. I strongly encourage you to attend the after school session. Information will be sent home via Dojo.

Parking

Parents are reminded not to illegally park, drop off or pick up students along Warradale Avenue. Please use the designated bays in this area to park your vehicle. The official school drop off and pick up area is the ‘Kiss and Drive’ bays at the front of the school. This is in place to ensure students are picked up and dropped off at school safely.

Canteen Renovations

I am excited to see the renovations completed on the canteen. The P&C are hoping the canteen will be operating from week 4.

Looking forward to a very positive and productive year.

Natalie Bracegirdle
Principal

BYOD Program 2023

Thank you to the parents who have already purchased a device, either iPad or MacBook, for their child to support our BYOD Program. While the students are excited and eager to use their devices, in the first two weeks the teachers concentrate on setting the expectations and making sure that students understand how to take care of their devices.

With one of our technicians on leave for the first two weeks it is taking a little longer to join the devices to our Mobile Device Management system (MDM). Once joined, the devices have all the settings needed to operate effectively in our school environment. You can send the device in with your child each day from Week 3. It is best if it is not set up at all, but if it is please don’t set up an Apple ID or use Filevault security until after it is joined to our MDM.

We are really pleased to once again be able to offer parent workshops to help with setting up your iPad or MacBook and have a play with some programs or ask some questions.

The workshops will be from 4:30pm-5:30pm on Thursday 16th February or Thursday 23rd February.

To assist with knowing numbers for each session and what parents may want to learn about, please take this very short survey:

Library News …. with Mrs Murray

https://landsdalelibrary.weebly.com/

Welcome Back For 2023! The Library Is Open!

The Library @ Landsdale is now open for student and parent book borrowing. We look forward to seeing our returning students and meeting families that are new to our school. The Library is a great place to visit, as you will quickly discover. We hope to see you soon. The closing date for the return of all library books this term will be Friday 31st March 2023 (Week 9).

Opening Times

The Library is open for book borrowing at these times:

  • Before school 8.30-8.45am Mon-Fri
  • Lunchtime 1.25-1.45pm Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri (Closed Wed)
  • After school 3.00-3.30pm Mon-Fri

All 33 classes have a weekly Library Book Change Time organised by their class teacher. Please check your child’s rostered borrowing day with their class teacher and assist them with remembering their library book and library bag on that day.

Parents and caregivers are most welcome to visit the Library with their child to borrow books before or after school, or at any time during the school day. While here, you may wish to browse through our range of LEAP (Linking Education and Parents) parenting resources which are available for loan. Parents can also sign up to become Library members.

Lending Rules

Students may borrow two books for a period of two weeks. Books may be renewed if not required by other readers. Overdue notices are sent to classrooms every week. Please remind your child to return his/her library books by the due date. Library bags must be used for borrowing. These are available from supermarkets. Shopping bags are also suitable to use as library bags.

Outstanding Loans from 2022

At the end of last year, we had 89 library books that were not returned. Invoices will be sent home to these families. Unfortunately, students who have not returned their 2022 library books will not be able to take books home from the Library, until these items are sent back or paid for at the Front Office or via Qkr! Thank you for your assistance.

Scholastic Book Club

Order forms for the first edition of Book Club have been distributed to classes. The due date for return of Edition 1 Scholastic orders is FRIDAY 17th FEBRUARY @ 9am. For ease and speed, use the LOOP Platform to order:

https://mybookclubs.scholastic.com.au/Parent/Login.aspx

Alternatively, you can send your completed paper order forms to the Front Office by 9am on the due date. Unfortunately, late orders cannot be accepted.

Sports News …. with Mr Baggio & Mr Brown

At LPS we have a Monday morning Running Club, free of charge and open to all year levels. We meet at 8:10am on the school oval every Monday and the students walk/jog/run around the oval until 8:30am at their own pace. I provide personal lanyards for everyone which we scan after each lap to add to their tally. There are badges for hitting milestones but the main aims are just setting goals and being active.

Families are more than welcome to join in! We hope to see you there!

Welcome to Bilingual Families Perth

Bilingual Families Perth is a not-for-profit network of linguistically diverse people in Western Australia.

Our network connects over 500 families and individuals from more than 40 language backgrounds. In the past 10 years we have provided support for families who speak Afrikaans, Bengali, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Cantonese, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Farsi, Finnish, French, German, Gujarati, Greek, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Macedonian, Malay, Malayalam, Mandarin, Mongolian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Samoan, Serbian, Spanish, Swahili, Swiss-German, Swedish, Tagalog, Tamil, Turkish, Vietnamese besides various dialects of the relevant languages.

Most families have pre-school or school-aged children and we are experiencing similar issues while raising our children in more than one language. We also work together with professionals who share information on bilingualism and multilingualism. We can probably put you in touch with people who speak your language.
