23 February 2023
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Information has now gone home from your child/ren’s teachers. Open communication between home and school is important. Please be aware that staff will respond to dojo messages and emails in a timely manner, not necessarily straight away. For urgent messages during the day contact the school office who will forward to information to the staff member.
It was nice to attend the Parentlink welcome back afternoon on Friday 10th February after school. The Parentlink program continues to provide an additional level of communication between home and school. Thanks to all the volunteers who have taken on the role of class rep for 2023.
Assemblies start this week, see the school calendar for dates. We hope to see lots of families joining us in the undercover area for assembly.
Last week we got handover for the canteen. I know that students and staff have been looking forward to having Sue and her amazing team back in operation. Please make sure you check out the menu and use QKR to place your orders.
Some important dates coming up-
School Development Day - Friday 3rd March is a pupil free day. Staff will be working on whole school planning.
There have been some changes made to the dates for NAPLAN this year. Students in year 3 and 5 will be commencing NAPLAN testing in week 7, commencing 15th March.
Later this term we have swimming for the years 1-4 students. Information about swimming will be coming home shortly.
Have a fabulous week.

Library News …. with Mrs Murray
https://landsdalelibrary.weebly.com/
The Library Is Open!
The Library @ Landsdale is now open for student and parent book borrowing. We look forward to seeing our returning students and meeting families that are new to our school. The Library is a great place to visit, as you will quickly discover. We hope to see you soon. The closing date for the return of all library books this term will be Friday 31st March 2023 (Week 9).
Opening Times
The Library is open for book borrowing at these times:
|
8.30-8.45am |
Mon-Fri |
|
1.25-1.45pm |
Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri (Closed Wed) |
|
3.00-3.30pm |
Mon-Fri |
All 33 classes have a weekly Library Book Change Time organised by their class teacher. Please check your child’s rostered borrowing day with their class teacher and assist them with remembering their library book and library bag on that day.
Parents and caregivers are most welcome to visit the Library with their child to borrow books before or after school, or at any time during the school day. While here, you may wish to browse through our range of LEAP (Linking Education and Parents) parenting resources which are available for loan. Parents can also sign up to become Library members.
Lending Rules
Students may borrow two books for a period of two weeks. Books may be renewed if not required by other readers. Overdue notices are sent to classrooms every week. Please remind your child to return his/her library books by the due date. Library bags must be used for borrowing. These are available from supermarkets. Shopping bags are also suitable to use as library bags.
Outstanding Loans from 2022
At the end of last year, we had 89 library books that were not returned. Invoices will be sent home to these families. Unfortunately, students who have not returned their 2022 library books will not be able to take books home from the Library, until these items are sent back or paid for at the Front Office or via Qkr! Thank you for your assistance.

Please know my door is always open and I am always happy to help.
If you would prefer that your child does not access my services, I would ask that you complete the attached ‘opt-out’ form.

Welcome to Bilingual Families Perth
Bilingual Families Perth is a not-for-profit network of linguistically diverse people in Western Australia.
Our network connects over 500 families and individuals from more than 40 language backgrounds. In the past 10 years we have provided support for families who speak Afrikaans, Bengali, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Cantonese, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Farsi, Finnish, French, German, Gujarati, Greek, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Macedonian, Malay, Malayalam, Mandarin, Mongolian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Samoan, Serbian, Spanish, Swahili, Swiss-German, Swedish, Tagalog, Tamil, Turkish, Vietnamese besides various dialects of the relevant languages.
Most families have pre-school or school-aged children and we are experiencing similar issues while raising our children in more than one language. We also work together with professionals who share information on bilingualism and multilingualism. We can probably put you in touch with people who speak your language.
P&C News – Roadwise
Welcome to Kiss n Drive 2023 YEARS 2 & 6 are starting us off in Term 1.
https://signup.zone/landsdaleps-kissndrive23
Kiss n Drive can be rewarding, fun and social for a very short 15-20 mins at the end of the school day.
On your rostered day, you are able to park in the school staff car park and will be entered into the Term draw (ticket per time you volunteer) to win one of 2, $10 canteen vouchers for your child to have lunch on us!
2021 saw the trial of the Kiss n Drive roster. It was so successful we stuck with it in 2022. In sharing the load between all 560+ families at LPS it removes the need of the old 4-6 parents rostered all year and it becomes a part of our "Just One Thing" Project.
Volunteering your time also makes the $15 P&C Year Contribution a choice, to participate or pay the fee.
Please remember the space you volunteer for, place it in your diary and a note on the fridge. There will be no reminder from the Kiss n Drive Road Wise Team.
If someone forgets then Kiss n Drive simply goes unmanned, which is not ideal. If you are unable to do the day you have rostered yourself for please find a replacement.

CANTEEN INFORMATION
Canteen Manager: Sue Uyen
Phone: 0410 894 457
Opening hours: 8:30am to 1:45pm
We are excited to be back and providing the school all the favourites again this year. The canteen reno results are amazing but we are a few things short, so are returning to the year with a lighter menu but will increase the items as we can. We unfortunately have to wait on a new piece of equipment which is the cause for the delay.
Teacher Tuesday and Student Waste Free Wednesday Specials are available to order via Qkr and advertised on the P&C FB page the Sunday prior around 10am so please watch out for these! Mid-Term Sausage Sizzle is on for week 7 this term.
We have a new menu which is attached for all our families to have a copy of at home. It’s new, colourful and fresh which represents everything the Canteen Crew are.
We are also looking for a new crew member. We have a casual one day a week (Wednesday 9am-1pm) position available. For all the info see the attached advertisement and contact lpspandchealth@gmail.com if you are interested with a resume. We’d love to welcome another school community member on the team!
Emergency lunches happen from time to time and we will never let a student go hungry. If your child comes home with a note from the canteen, the amount can be paid cash the next day or on Qkr via the accounts to pay menu.
Thanks
Sue, Nat & the canteen team

A Note from the School Health Nurse
Welcome to the new school year. My name is Julie Doherty.
School Health Nurses work in schools to promote healthy development and wellbeing so students may reach their full potential. A major part of my work is focused on early intervention and the School Entry Health Assessment program. Additionally, the nurse can be contacted at any time throughout primary school if you have concerns about your child’s health, development or wellbeing.
School Health Nurses serve as a health contact point for children and their families, providing information, assessment, health counselling and referral. They also work in partnership with schools to support teachers in health related curriculum and can assist in the development of health care plans for students with complex and chronic health needs.
