9 March 2023
From the Principal
Dear parents and caregivers
Welcome to week 6. The staff had a very productive day on Friday 3rd March at our school development day.
Assembly
Assemblies have started again for 2023. It’s been wonderful seeing so many parents and caregivers attending. See the calendar below for assembly dates for the rest of the year.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN online testing will begin on Wednesday 15th March. The platform is open during week 7 and 8. Students in year 3 and 5 will be participating in the national online assessments. The data collected is one set that assists teachers with planning, teaching and assessing for students.
Parking
Dropping off and picking up students continues to be a challenge at every school. Please be mindful of parking around our school community. You need to consider where you park on the street, that it doesn’t encroach on local resident’s driveways. Parents are not permitted in the staff carpark, service bay or dental clinic carpark to drop off and pick up. You may want to consider using Kiss and Ride outside the front of the school, or parking at the local shops and walking to collect your child/ren.
Harmony week
Harmony Day is on 21st March, the school community are planning some special events to celebrate over week 8. On Tuesday 21st March we will be wearing Harmony Day dress (either wear orange or come dressed in your cultural costume) bring a gold coin donation. As COVID restrictions have been lifted there is opportunity to involve parents and families in some different events again this year. I’m excited to say that the Food Fest will run on Thursday 23rd March. This will involve families sharing and selling their cultural foods with the school community. Information about the event will come home via Dojo. All donations raised will be going to the UN Children's appeal for the Turkiye/Syria earthquakes.
Swimming - Years 1-4
Year 1-4 students will be participating in a 9 day swimming series in weeks 9 & 10 this term. Information will be coming home shortly. Learning to swim is a valuable life skill that I encourage your children to participate in.
P&C Quiz night
The P& C have organised the first event for 2023. Mark 31st March in your diary to come to the quiz night. Always a great fun evening.
Have a fabulous week.

I hope the term is going well for you all.
For those of you that are new to Landsdale Primary School I would like to offer a warm welcome and let you know of my services. I am the school Chaplain, and my role is to provide holistic pastoral care to students, school staff and members of the community, irrespective of faith or cultural backgrounds. The pastoral care provided includes one on one and group sessions addressing physical and mental health issues, social and values education, behaviour management, emotional support and professional referrals, where appropriate. Please know my door is always open and I am always happy to help.
If you would prefer that your child does not access my services, I would ask that you complete the attached ‘opt-out’ form.

Sports News …. with Mr Baggio & Mr Brown
A massive congratulations to our cricket superstars who represented the school beautifully at the Kingsway Cricket Carnival.
Special mention to Shivam who hit 218 runs over 30 balls in 5 games for our A Division team. Our B Division boys only lost one game by just 5 runs and ended up coming 2nd to Spring Hill P.S. on run rate. I’d like to also personally congratulate our all-Year 5 girls team who despite minimal experience, came together, practiced every day at recess and lunch by their own merit, and performed incredibly on the day.
I was blown away by the sportsmanship and team spirit amongst all 3 of our teams and can’t wait for next year!
Mr. Baggio
Harmony Week
Please note that the Kindy B group will be given different date.
P&C News – Roadwise
Welcome to Kiss n Drive 2023.
YEARS 2 & 6 are starting us off in Term 1.
https://signup.zone/landsdaleps-kissndrive23
Kiss n Drive can be rewarding, fun and social for a very short 15-20 mins at the end of the school day.
On your rostered day, you are able to park in the school staff car park and will be entered into the Term draw (ticket per time you volunteer) to win one of 2, $10 canteen vouchers for your child to have lunch on us!
2021 saw the trial of the Kiss n Drive roster. It was so successful we stuck with it in 2022. In sharing the load between all 560+ families at LPS it removes the need of the old 4-6 parents rostered all year and it becomes a part of our "Just One Thing" Project.
Volunteering your time also makes the $15 P&C Year Contribution a choice, to participate or pay the fee.
Please remember the space you volunteer for, place it in your diary and a note on the fridge. There will be no reminder from the Kiss n Drive Road Wise Team.
If someone forgets then Kiss n Drive simply goes unmanned, which is not ideal. If you are unable to do the day you have rostered yourself for, please find a replacement.

Our network connects over 500 families and individuals from more than 40 language backgrounds. In the past 10 years we have provided support for families who speak Afrikaans, Bengali, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Cantonese, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Farsi, Finnish, French, German, Gujarati, Greek, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Macedonian, Malay, Malayalam, Mandarin, Mongolian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Samoan, Serbian, Spanish, Swahili, Swiss-German, Swedish, Tagalog, Tamil, Turkish, Vietnamese besides various dialects of the relevant languages.
Most families have pre-school or school-aged children and we are experiencing similar issues while raising our children in more than one language. We also work together with professionals who share information on bilingualism and multilingualism. We can probably put you in touch with people who speak your language.

A Note from the School Health Nurse
Welcome to the new school year. My name is Julie Doherty.
School Health Nurses work in schools to promote healthy development and wellbeing so students may reach their full potential. A major part of my work is focused on early intervention and the School Entry Health Assessment program. Additionally, the nurse can be contacted at any time throughout primary school if you have concerns about your child’s health, development or wellbeing.
School Health Nurses serve as a health contact point for children and their families, providing information, assessment, health counselling and referral. They also work in partnership with schools to support teachers in health related curriculum and can assist in the development of health care plans for students with complex and chronic health needs.
The services provided are free and confidential.
My work days are Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs.

Using a strengths-based approach , we connect autistic young people with others and provide opportunities for social interaction, engagement and fun. Designed for specific age ranges, the social groups offer a regular program of events and activities for members. We provide a place where individuals from 10 years old to adults can come to have fun, develop new friendships and develop new skills, enabling them to begin to apply social skills in a natural environment. Participants are invited to make decisions on what they would like to do throughout the term, both individually and as a group. If participants have a plan or self-managed NDIS plan, they can use their funds to access our services, but we also have a limited number of subsidised rates for those without NDIS funding.
