10 March 2016

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Families,

Landsdale Primary School has been an Independent Public School since 2010. The Department of Education Services conducts an independent review of each Independent Public School in the final year of the school's three-year Delivery and Performance Agreement. We have recently completed our review process and I would like to thank the whole school community for making Landsdale Primary School such a great school. All staff, students, parents and community members contribute to the vision, values and programs that ensure we are always striving for the best outcomes for students. While we don’t have the final report yet, the feedback after the review was very positive, particularly around our culture, rich programs and community connections. The final report will be available to the school community when completed. Thank you all.

One of our rich, higher order thinking programs that has caught the public’s attention is Code-Topia. Miss Sampey and Mr Bennett lead the program which embeds coding skills into the classroom practice of Years 4-6. It was exciting for the students to be involved in the filming of the news program “Today Tonight”, which will feature our students undertaking different activities which apply their Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) skills.

ANZAC Day Service

This year our ANZAC service assembly will have a slightly later starting time, commencing at 9.00am on Friday 8th April outside the undercover area. We would love to see as many parents as possible attend to help mark our respect to those who fought and died in all wars.

All our School Council/Ministers will participate in the service along with all choir students as well as students who are members of the Guides and Scouts. Prior to the service the canteen will be providing a breakfast which students will need to pre-order. A note will be sent out regarding this soon.

We will also be accepting contributions of flowers for wreaths. Please bring donations of flowers to school on Thursday 7th April.

Many thanks for your support.

Regards

Leanne White
Principal

P&C News

Recently an informal meeting was held to discuss a number of ideas for fundraising events this year. These events will be tabled at the next P&C meeting and we will keep you informed regarding the outcome.

The next fundraising event to be held is the Easter Raffle which will be happening on Thursday 24th March. All donations are greatly appreciated.

On behalf of the P&C, I would like to say a big thank you to all the new volunteers who have offered to help out for upcoming events. Without the help of volunteers, these events would not be able to occur. If you are interested in helping for any event, please contact me at anferguson1977@gmail.com or alternatively on 0402 179 511.

A big thank you to all the parents who are using Kiss and Drive correctly and following the directions given. By using this service correctly, it makes our volunteers job much easier and also ensures your child's safety when entering your car.

Our next meeting is being held on Tuesday 15th March at 7:30pm in the school staff room. Everyone is welcome to attend. This is a great way to meet new people and to find out what’s happening within the school.

The P&C are still in need of a secretary. Without all executive positions filled, the committee is unable to run to its full potential.

If you are interested in filling this position or you would like any information pertaining to P&C matters, please contact me at anferguson1977@gmail.com or 0402179511.

Interested in Becoming A Safety House?

Safety House is a community based "Good Neighbour" program of volunteer householders. It's easy to be a Safety House, it costs you absolutely nothing and you could be doing something important to help protect vulnerable young children. You can make a difference in your local community.

Who can be a Safety House?

  • A Safety Householder must be a caring adult who is usually in or around their home during school travel time and be ready and willing to assist any child who might seek help at their door.
  • Your house must have easy street access to the front door, no screening walls or trees and a Safety House sign easily visible from the street.
  • Before you can be a Safety House, everyone living in the house aged 14 and over must consent to having a continuously monitored police check which is fully paid for by Safety House.

If you are interested or have any queries, please contact Sally Pellegrini, Landsdale Primary's Safety House Coordinator, at sally.pellegrini@gmail.com or leave a message at the school office on 9302 4100.
